Nope.... I'm in that parents face before lift off and I usually have my noise canceling headphones on when I sit down.

Let's get the WiFi going... nahhhhh B

I've seen similar fits in my siblings back in the day. They are pretty rare though. Similar "demon" attack was on my previous flight but that was just two hours...

Trust me when I say most parents number one fear traveling with kids, is the kids losing their minds.

99.999% of kids on planes won't be like the one here. Obviously as a parent you know your child the best, will they manage on a flight? If they lose their mind, do you have the right tools to bring them back. Sometimes you do everything right and something sets them off in mid flight. It happens

Now I know why so many people compliment me on having pretty well behaved children. I never know how to respond to it. I'm usually just like 'thanks?' Keeping your kids from freaking out all the time seems to be the healthy thing to do for everyone involved (even the kids).

I wonder if he had a mental disability and literally nothing would work.

How the fuck do you prevent this oh wise one? What bullshit.

Some kids cry their fucking eyes out and there's nothing you can do aside from drugging them. It happens regardless how good a parent you are.

Edit: Just got that this isn't a screaming newborn. Disregard my comment.

Lol yes...I have no problem with a very young child crying on a plane even if it is super annoying. Demon spawn raised by parents who have never said no....different story.

I hate videos like this. So fucking what. Sorry you suffered. I bet you had a good bitch about it on the plane and you went to all the effort of fancy subs while making sure your reflection was in a few of the shots. Made for hits.

Your kid is like that too huh ?

Are you seriously suggesting giving a child oxycotin or xanax?

In any amount?

This was hard to watch. As a parent who has flown with a toddler myself I'm looking inside myself for any kind of sympathy for the mom. But as soon as she said "Turn the WiFi on." I'm like nope, she's one of those parents.

I'm sure the child is on the spectrum, but even if that's the case this parent was unprepared for this flight. I hope she learns from this.

And I hate that high pitch child scream. It really triggers me.

You really don't know how this kid is being raised. Not every little brat is the way he is because their parents never said no. There are many other factors, believe it or not.
Not saying that what is happening on the video is the only way to deal with the kid though, don't get me wrong.

Also, for everybody suggesting different drugs like valium.... I will assume you guys are from the US? Hahah :P

I know I already posted once in this thread, but that WiFi moment... I can't deal with that. I cannot fathom *needing* WiFi to get my child to calm down. That is beyond the fucking pale for me.

And the mom knows this will help him. She already knows and she didn't prepare at all for it. She's apparently got a smart device to soothe the savage beast, but no offline content. How does this happen? My son was two the first time he flew and he had an iPad full of stuff to do that didn't need WiFi (he did quite well and even I was a little surprised).

I'm a parent and I'm sympathetic to those who try, but damned if there isn't just zero evidence of a parent trying in this video. Maybe this was a last minute flight - maybe a family member died or was in the hospital and they had to leave town ASAP. Maybe this is a portrait of the worst day of that mom's life. For her kid's sake, I kind of hope it is. I hope that isn't the type of parenting he gets daily.

Going to be awesome in about 3 years when that kid is in school

- No boundaries
- Not used to being told no
- Not used to being subject to structure or discipline

Good lord whatever teacher gets that kid I pray for them

Was the kid in unbearable invisible pain, or something?
Like, maybe he had an ear infection and the parents took him up and his eardrums felt like they were going to rupture for 8 hours, or something.
Kid doesn't know what's going on and parents don't believe him because they don't know it's a thing.

I mean, there has to be an explanation. I can't imagine a kid just being that shitty.
Hmm...the kid was climbing on top of the seats and running up and down the aisles while screaming.....

Nah, when people are making comments like "why can't you just control your kids" then I as a parent will laugh at their ignorance. My daughter is coming 4 and had flew a bunch with no issues, but she does have her moments where she'll have a tantrum because she's tired or something and it's not something you can just stop. There's a lot of implication in this thread that if your child had a tantrum and you don't stop them then you're a bad parent, and that's just pure ignorance.
To an extent, but the kid is climbing on top of chairs and running down the aisles. It's not just screaming that's going on; the kid is flat out let loose on a moving airplane.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post.

That's the first thing that came to mind for me. Strange that everyone just assumes that it's just a bratty kid with shitty parents.

The problem is we rely on technology wayyyyy to much these days as a solution to what shouldn be a problem. When I used to fly with my parents I knew what was up, if I said I was bored mt dad said go to slesp if I said I didnt want to sleep he said use my imagination or draw. This lady doesnt have a clue of control or how to parent their child and the failure is also letting them access technology at such a young age that there threshold is shit.

Parents should be charged an extra fee for causing grief or users given incentives for next flight.

If your kid will be like this, might as well drive out to your location and keep the suffering between your family only.

Eight hours is pretty fucking hefty, if it's to be believed - there's only one source right? -, but I'm with Box on this one.

You bring up a good point. We don't know her circumstances. A close loved one could've died and she was so grief stricken on the way to the funeral that she lost herself and after hours of trying she just stopped caring. It's grasping but it's possible. Or she could be a mom with no control over their child. We don't know.

But my issue is shoving an ipad in your kids face every time they blow up. It's something I don't agree with, and I see it often. Not that I'm against using them for keeping a bored kid entertained ( I do it), but not for deescalating a tantrum. Now the parent relies to much on the device and it'll get worse and worse unless you figure out another way to calm them down.

Again I want to be sympathetic but her initial move was to go to the ipad. Oh, and the 8 hours of banshee child whaling away.

With a kid this bad I can only think of that episode where Ms. Cartman got a dog whisperer to train Eric to not be awful.

Bender Bending Rodriguez: "Have you ever tried simply turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and hitting them?"

But seriously, the flight attendants are definitely packing oxys and xans, just slip one of those bad boys in his juice and no more problems.

What the fuck? This got a ban?

Part of being an adult is knowing that when you fly, you're in a confined space with other adults and sometimes youth or children. And sometimes youth and children deal with the same stress you're under (or other stressors you don't have to deal with) differently because they don't have the life experience yet to know they really should listen to their parents and clam up. Maybe not to save their own face, but for the sake of others. So when I see someone record a kid having a rough time yelling and screaming, then post it on social media, I think 'Wow, here's an ADULT who doesn't know how to handle their own peace and tranquility.' Garbage person taping that kid. I do blame the parents here as there must be shit they're not doing to corral this kind of behavior. But, I also don't agree with taping the kid and uploading it to social media, that seems very scummy to me.

Hard to handle your peace and tranquility after 8 hours of that.

This is why I have a good pair of noise cancelling headphones and always make sure that I download a few Netflix movies to watch offline during a flight.

Life isn't easy it's hard. Look at all the others who managed to suppress the urge to record and publicly shame a kid having a rough time. Adults need to be more in tune with being adults in times like this. Part of the gamble of taking a flight somewhere is having to deal with this. Every time I've flown I've mentally prepared myself before the flight for just an incident like this. Thankfully it's never happened but if it did I would sit there thinking 'This sucks, yes this sucks. But no matter how irritated I get, I won't video tape someone else's kid and put it online.' Not that hard to do. Remember I'm taking issue primarily here at the moron who filmed the kid and uploaded it. No excuse, fuck is that person doing?

Part of being an adult is also being a parent when you have a kid. Maybe some adults need to learn how to control their kid and not let them throw a big tantram for hours on end. Maybe.
