I dont know why so many of these "idols" are such failures when it comes to drugs.

Heroin has absolutely no appeal. If you wantto destroy your life, go for it I guess.
Wtf man? Have some empathy. People don't take heroin cos it sounds nice, they take it cos there's some horrible shit going on in their lives that they want to escape from

Demi has spoken out before on suffering from several mental health issues, and I'm sure working for Disney as a child actress during her formative years only fed into those and made them worse.

100%. In reality they don't give a fuck past the money

Pretty much.

Lost a friend to heroin when I was a teenager. Just last week I thought of a funny memory of her and it made me cry.

I hope she gets better and can get the help she needs. As someone who has fought a battle with addiction in the past, it is an every day struggle for sure.

For those asking, you can absolutely survive Heroin overdoses. I hope this is a wake-up call for her that puts her on the road to recovery. My best wishes go out to her.

My first reaction was harsh. I hope she gets help. Ive known and see way too many people on these substances and it always ends badly.

It hurts when I see a role model doing something like this because it could impact so many, but of course she was a child first.

Whoever keeps giving heroin to all the vulnerable people deserves a long sentence.

Not to mention Disney clearly has serious, serious issues taking care of its child performers. For a company that makes so much money off of child actors, you'd think it would try harder to ensure those actors grow up with the care they need.

Disney doesn't even treat their adult employees good. You hear stories all the time about Disneyland cast members living out of cars in the parking lot.

Fuck... I hope she pulls through. She's a huge inspiration to so many young people (some of my friends love her immensely, not only but also because of her openness regarding substance abuse and other personal struggles)...

From what i've read a lot of it has to do with parents...not really being parents. Basically you've got these kids thrust into the limelight at a young age and making money that they nor their parents ever could've imagined. So it leads to a situation where those parents become hesitant to tell those kids no. They become the worst type of "Yes men" because they're the people that raised those kids and who those kids trust above all else and now they're just letting them do whatever they want because they're afraid of having that money cut off.

How does one get into trying such a drug? Users are typically the butt of all jokes involving drug use. You must really hit a low to even experiment with heroin. It's damn near like trying crack.

Addiction is a disease. Most severe addicts can be defined has having chronic disease: one that cannot be cured but rather managed. Choice doesn't determine whether something is a disease or not. Try having some empathy please.

I knew people that started with pain killers. They can't get the pain killers anymore so they go for Heroin instead.

She was struggling with a lot of mental health issues early on and did cocaine as well.

Addiction is a ladder. You try one thing, get hooked on it, then you bounce to another thing. It happened to my brother, it happens to lots of people.

Not trying to call either of you out, just wanting to highlight that suggesting an addiction problem is more or less severe due simply to the substance being consumed is kind of faulty. The underlying problem, addiction, is still the same, and while the affects of some substances or behaviors may be more severe or damage the person more rapidly, ultimately a heroin addiction, a cocaine addiction, an alcohol addiction, or a gambling addiction, etc. are all just different permutations of the base illness.

This is awful and I hope she gets the help she needs, addiction is horrible, destructive, and debilitating in all its forms.

Alcohol abuse and whatever you brought up is 10x different then heroine abuse

If she received narcane I'm pretty sure she's going to be okay. As long as her oxygen levels weren't too low she should bounce back. I find the problem is the bounce back is pretty quick and doesn't really scare people enough to sober up. I hope after this she can get a strong support system to get her back on her feet. Everything I heard about her points to her being a nice person. I wish her the best.

I have never dealt with a loved one with a drug addiction. I bet it is rough for everyone. I wouldn't want to deal with it. I wouldn't know how to deal with it. What do you do? How do you cope with seeing someone you love addicted to a substance that could kill them but yet, it's so hard for them to stop.

As for the person addicted, I can't begin to know how they feel. I bet it's powerless - no control. I hate hearing stories like this. I hope she gets well.

There's certain things we all know not to do. Certain things we know will probably ruin our lives if we do. Trying something like heroin is on that list. It doesn't matter what you're going through one should know don't even try that.

Addiction is a disease but unless she was born addicted to heroin she should have known better. If you're an addictive person that goes triple for you.

I seriously wonder what the moment was when she decided to even try heroin. What could push someone that far to basically voluntarily become a heroin addict because everyone knows if you try it that's basically what you're doing.

I had no idea she was into heavy drugs like this.

Hope she's ok. Heroin is no joke.

She released a song last month revealing she had just relapsed and basically apologizing to fans

seriously, the lyrics of that song's outro are just incredibly chilling considering what happened now:

I'm sorry that I'm here again
I promise I'll get help
It wasn't my intention
I'm sorry to myself

Poor Demi :(
I have to bail on this thread. Shit sucks like hell hearing this about someone.

An astonishing lack of empathy here and basic misunderstanding of addiction.

It is highly unlikely that she "voluntarily" became a heroin addict. She probably had an opioid addiction already and when the pills dry up there is a cheap opioid on the street that you can turn to.

Drugs of all kinds are rampant in environments of the rich and famous. There are restaurants and events for the wealthy we don't [ or may not] have access to that will have whatever concoction you'd like; it's normalized in these settings. I've been to events in Brasil, NYC, and Miami that change my entire perspective of some famous personalities, it was an eye opener.

Common sense and a rational mind are often thrown out the window when deep depression and mental health issues come into play, if you think your only options are suicide or a potential drug habit I know I would be tempted to risk it for a suppression of something very debilitating.

I hope she pulls through and gets the help she needs.
