Do people often recover from heroine overdoses? I always figured heroine ODing was a death sentence.
OD doesn't necessarily mean death. Just that it was excessive enough to cause a serious issue. My friend used to OD almost 2-3 times a month when we used. He'd just flop over and his breathing would become extremely labored, very difficult to bring back.

Good god the comments on that TMZ post. I seldom think disasters are good for humanity, but I think we'd probably be in a better overall place if nearly everyone posting there fell into a black hole or were shipped to Ganymede without spacesuits.

Anyway, hope DL gets better. This sucks, I don't care about her music or whatever she does, but that's way way too young to be dying of something like this, not that any time is an appropriate time to OD on whatever. Bleh.

She is pretty talented and seems like a pretty sweet and beautiful girl. Hate to hear this, she is still young enough and a good role model that to not have anything disastrous come out of this. Just crummy news to hear, thought at one point she was able to overcome this.

Yooo, heroin? I know she had problems but not that severe. jesus christ. Hopefully this is a wakeup call to get properly clean. That shit is not to be fucked with.

Fucking any drug where you introduce f'n needles into the mix is not to be fucked with. Scary shit.
It probably didn't start with heroin, probably pain pills. Ran out of prescription -- easier to get heroin than pills... same story is playing out all around America. Its one of the few things that unite us.

jesus, poor Demi. Hope she can pull through and finally overcome her demons. Addiction is a bitch.

I'm not a fan of her music so I didn't know how sad and achingly harrowing the lyrics of her recent song "Sober" were...

I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know why
I do it every, every, every time
It's only when I'm lonely
Sometimes I just wanna cave
And I don't wanna fight
I try and I try and I try and I try and I try
Just hold me, I'm lonely

Momma, I'm so sorry I'm not sober anymore
And daddy, please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor
To the ones who never left me
We've been down this road before
I'm so sorry, I'm not sober anymore
I'm not sober anymore

I'm sorry that I'm here again
I promise I'll get help
It wasn't my intention
I'm sorry to myself

I knew she had some substance abuse problems but I didn't know it was heroin. Hope she'll be okay

Yup, I really doubt the first time she took opioids recreationally that it was heroin. Started with pills ended up on heroin.

knew something was wrong for a long time before sober even came out
you can just tell by the way she tweets at people and about people that were friends

some of her closest friends left her in the last few months

TIL OD'ing is apparently way more common in a single person than I thought. I was aware people got narcan when they OD'd in an emergency but I didn't realize people did it with such frequency that they'd rack up such long counts without just dropping dead after one or two, god damn.

addiction sucks. We've lost so many legitimately good people to a horrible disease.

Fame is too much for kids + terrible influences around vulnerable people like children. It's sad and it happens so much. I'm always glad when I see kids get out of music/movie industries and just have normal lives

Not to mention Disney clearly has serious, serious issues taking care of its child performers. For a company that makes so much money off of child actors, you'd think it would try harder to ensure those actors grow up with the care they need.

Geez, I knew she had some issues, but nothing that bad. Herion is fucking horrible. Nearly lost a few friends to it. Hope she recovers.

Not trying to call either of you out, just wanting to highlight that suggesting an addiction problem is more or less severe due simply to the substance being consumed is kind of faulty. The underlying problem, addiction, is still the same, and while the affects of some substances or behaviors may be more severe or damage the person more rapidly, ultimately a heroin addiction, a cocaine addiction, an alcohol addiction, or a gambling addiction, etc. are all just different permutations of the base illness.

This is awful and I hope she gets the help she needs, addiction is horrible, destructive, and debilitating in all its forms.

Disney's public smiling face and what actually do are very, very different things.

It's not just Disney it's being a child star in general. There is no way that lifestyle is conducive to childhood development. It's no shock so many of them turn to drugs as they've probably been conditioned to mask their problems and issues in order to keep working, and a good way to do that is drugs.

They updated the post.

1:28 PM PT -- Law enforcement sources tell us Demi was treated with Narcan -- an emergency treatment for narcotic overdoses -- at her home. We've confirmed the OD occurred at her house in the Hollywood Hills.

User warned: inflammatory drive-by.
I dont know why so many of these "idols" are such failures when it comes to drugs.

Heroin has absolutely no appeal. If you wantto destroy your life, go for it I guess.

Damn she's just like a large percentage of the population now. I'm glad they were able to save her. Addiction is something I never could understand when I did mental health work, I feel so bad by people afflicted with it.
