Are you broke? If so there is nothing they can do to get it anyway. They'll write it off. If not, then yeah you'll have problems.

Good luck. Be aware that, without insurance, depending on your income and where you live, you might be able to submit your expenses to the state plan and have them written down or off. Or go to a church or charity for help.

A lot of people don't have insurance. The premiums at the exchanges are prohibitively high, especially if you don't have a good job. Speaking for myself, I have no way of affording $300 or $400+ a month for the shit-tier health plans the exchanges offer.
