Sigh

Sad to see Pre Rec is coming to an end.

I mean, yeah we'll continue to see them on the usual RLM videos, but still, having consistent vid uploads from Rich and Jack having a chat while playing games will be missed.

I womder if it just kinda fizzled over time? I mean they clearly peaked with The Order 1886 and I've just found myself less and less interested as time's gone on and haven't watched anything new in a good year or so. They've seemingly gotten less insightful and Rich has gotten more...Rich-y.
Indeed. Instead of getting better it just seemed to get worse and worse. I unsubbed several months ago.

Exploding Varmits part 1 still wins the award for hardest I've ever laughed at a best of the worst episode with SoS right behind it. The moment in particular that slays me is when mike ask "when are they gonna talk about getting permits"

I laughed so hard at that one, at the same time feeling like a horrible person and I felt so damn sorry for the poor fucking Varmits.

I'll shed a few tears for PreRec. I know they're not the best reviewers, but I enjoy their company. I have a lot of people I watch anyway and they always have their own spin.

Obviously they're just clearing the way for GameStation 3.0.

Jack didn't liked XCOM because he wanted to be one of the soldiers and since then he is my mortal enemy.

I didn't realize they were ending streams all together. I assumed they'd do streams less frequently or something. Shame on that regard.

Their streams weren't always great, but I really liked watching them play the Friday the 13th game for some reason. Rich was pretty good at it, which led to some fun moments. Plus any stream where Jay showed up was great, because he would tell some cool stories, and show off that crazy movie knowledge of his.

I haven't watched a stream in a while since they're really long and I haven't seen a game I care to watch them play in a while. I'd watch Spelunky if Jack played it, but their Zelda streams were way too long to invest time in. (I only watch them on YouTube)

Not really sure. I didn't catch the full beginning of the stream, but they seem really vague about it. It's just ending cause they needed a break of sorts I guess. There was also something about them wanting to pursue creating a video game controller for PCs, but that seems more like a side thing that's very early on in the concept phase.

It sounds like they were getting really burned out on the fact that the videos people liked the most were the ones where they were just ripping on games for an hour, rather than the ones where they have a long-tail discussion about a game's strengths and weaknesses, and they don't really like doing (or think they're any good at) the angry-reviewer shtick.

It's weird because they seemed to making pretty good money from the streams for basically doing nothing but talk shit about movies and games... pretty much the Twitch dream. :p

In that recent video where The Nerd Crew breaks up, it's funny that that's what "Rich" goes off to do...because that's kind of what he does already.

that looks like someone just cut out a picture of hair in the shape of a mustache and glued it under his nose

Literally Jesus is in I Am Here...Now. And it's not just boring old Jesus, it's Space Jesus!

Or Robot Jesus, I guess. It's really unclear even after watching the movie.

So, Jack and Rich did explain why they're ending PrevRecord in their last stream. I've linked it below, they talk about it right at the start. But, to quickly sum up:

-They felt they were getting stale, they didn't feel like they had a whole lot new to talk about and were just circling the same stories over and over again (Jack grew up on a farm and doesn't like Farscape, Rich doesn't like cinematic games, etc.)
-The streams are still fun, but they could see it soon slipping into not fun and wanted to end while it was still fun.
-Their felt their reviews weren't that great as it was basically them speaking about games without any nuance or in-depth criticism and, as it turns out, no one really cares for that (Jack's words).
-They're still might do stuff with games or maybe stuff not related to games, thus they aren't shutting down any of their Twitch or YT channels.
-While they were steadily growing, they weren't taking off and that wasn't likely to change given their style.

im a little glad they acknowledged this, since this was my major issue with prerec's reviews. the thing that works for me about rlm's content is the mix of casual banter filtered through the prism of their appreciation of film as a medium. prerec wound up being two dudes talking very casually about games with no real insight into how games work beyond their most functional level. that's all good for casual conversation, but it doesn't make for particularly interesting videos.

sad to see the end of an era though, i tuned into the streams occasionally. hopefully they actually end up pulling Mike in tomorrow after all
