With the Guacamelee! 2 release date announcement that we got today, I've noticed that we are actually getting 4 really good-looking indie "Metroidvania" titles next month, one per week:

Chasm (PS4/Vita/PC - 31st July)

Dead Cells (PS4/XONE/Switch - 7th August) (Already available on PC)

Death's Gambit (PS4/PC - 14th August)

https://youtu.be/Q3tPapxH3uA

Guacamelee! 2 (PS4/PC - 21st August)

https://youtu.be/h3Aa3Jn82Qs

Good times indeed for the fans of the genre. Which one looks more interesting to you? Which one will you be getting?

PD: damn the 2 pieces of media limitation

I have Dead Cells on PC and it's great but I am all over Guacamelee 2. I adore the first game and it looks fantastic. I may pick up Dead Cells physical copy on Switch too if I'm feeling spendy.

ALL OF THEM. Death's Gambit is the one I'm least enthused about, but I'm copping that too.

HYPE RANKINGS:
1. Chasm (backed the Kickstarter in 2013)
2. Dead Cells (concerned about the rogue elements)
3. Guacamelee 2 (loved the first game, but the combat arenas killed the pacing)
4. Death's Gambit (looks solid, but aesthetically is not my jam)

Considering Dead Cells is the only one coming to the Switch/Xbox I can see the poll running heavily in that games favour.

Will get all of them for my PS4. Great little games to play before Spider-Man. Can't wait.

Dead Cells already pre loaded on Switch. Might not get Guac 2 day one but will 100% get it at some point. First one sooooooooo damn good

All of them except Chasm. I watched some gameplay and it just didn't seem to draw me in. Can definitely re-evaluate if the reviews are excellent.

Dead Cells looks perfect for Switch. I'm in for a Day One purchase there.

I would prefer to play Death's Gambit and Gucamelee 2 for the Xbox, but it seems Death's Gambit probably won't be ported over anytime soon so I'll nab that for PS4. They're being more cagey with Gucamelee 2 ever getting ported over, but I suspect it will so I'll wait on that one.

Probably Death's Gambit, Dead Cells looks good but roguelikes are not my thing so it's a no. Guacamelee... I tried to like the first one but honestly couldn't get into it, it was good but didn't grab me.

Know little about Chasm and I'm short on money so if I buy something it's gotta be Death's Gambit that looks cool (although my hype dried a little).

Definitely Chasm for the Vita, I have been waiting for this game for years since they had their playable demo. I'll be buying Dead Cells on the Switch as I need more games on the device. The other 2 are maybes, I'll need to read more about them.

I sucked at Guacamelee!'s combat and never actually finished the first one. I did love the artstyle though and I'm sure I'll return to it someday, and assuredly the sequel someday too.

Dead Cells looks and sounds pretty fantastic, and with the discount on the Switch eShop for pre-ordering it I'll probably jump on that before it comes out.

pre-ordered dead cells hard copy for the switch, already bought it on PC but the developer deserves the double dip, an exceptional game.

I don't know if i would call it a metroidvania tho, more Rougelike game.

Guacamelee 2 probably based on how much I liked the first game. Dunno about the others.

Am I weird for hoping that Guacamelee 2 is...less of a Metroidvania? That game was at its best when it was just being an action-platformer, and the vania stuff always felt kinda ancillary

Chasm because I've already bought it on Kickstarter many years ago.

Guacamelee too because I liked the first one a lot.

Not sure about the others, Dead Cells is finally out of early access?

Guacamelee 2 is the only one I know for sure will be quality. I have to wait for reviews on the others.

Dead Cells, most likely.

About the rest: go Switch or go home

Seriously though, Guacamelee 2 is a game that I really want to play because I love the first one but I can wait until the inevitable Switch version.
Chasm I don't know if there's going to be a Switch version, but if the game is great I'll consider playing on the PS4.

And I don't know anything about Death's Gambit, so I'll look into that.

Definitely getting Chasm (not sure which platform) and Dead Cells (Switch). Have yet to play Guacamelee 1, so the sequel will have to wait until after I get through the first. Of course, I have no time to play any of these games, but I'll buy them anyway and then stare longingly at my the collection and dream of the day where I can game as much as I want (yeah right lol).

Death's Gambit for me but not right away. Gotta recover from Hollow Knight draining me of enthusiasm for the genre right now.

PS: Chasm also looks really cool but I don't know anything about it, time to look into it I guess.

Is Dead Cells really a Metroidvania? I keep hearing that but I don't know how it works with its procedurally generated levels.
