Why was the home version of Alpha 3 not the version used? I'd rather play the version with more characters.

I'd have preferred that version as well, but the vision for this package was 'arcade perfect', so they went with the arcade version.

If you still have a PS3, you can download the home version via PSOne Classics on the PSN store. Sadly not on the PS4 (yet).

Still great. The World Tour mode (I think that's the correct name) is so fantastic.

Or the Street Fighter Alpha Anathology for PS2. It has both versions.

There was the arcade version of Alpha 3 Upper, but that was on Naomi which is probably a bit harder to emulate than the CPS systems.

If I'm in the corner and someone is repeatedly doing short jumping attacks over and over, and I'm a character without a DP, what can I do?

I keep falling for that tactic and it's incredibly frustrating.
Someone jut did it with Sagat's jumping lk, and someone else with Zangief splash.
I try and anti air but it doesn't come out in time.

What game and what character are you using?

Short answer is don't get cornered.

Otherwise, you might have to kara-cancel a crouching attack into upkicks/upball. Honda's jab headbutt is also nice, IIRC. Air-to-air short/jab/throw is something to consider, too, with most of the cast.

Thanks, yeah, I should probably jump back less.

Kara-cancelling is probably beyond my abilities.
Being in that situation sends me into panic mode.

I am loving playing ST online so damn much though, it just feels so pure, I may have to deem it my favourite SF game.

If they're landing really close, you should be able to throw them when they land. There's a large window of throw invulnerability after blocking/getting hit in ST IIRC. And even if they don't land close enough for a throw, for example with Dee Jay, you should be able to mash back+MP and get throw if they're in throw range or close MP otherwise, which is a huge anti-air button. Last and worst grounded option would be to deliberately take the hit and then have a down charge ready for upkick/ball if they're just mindlessly jumping forward and pressing the same button over and over.

Man, I've been having trouble finding matches recently on both the PS4 and PC. Are there just certain times of day where large amounts of players get on, or has this week just been a lull in online activity in particular.

On a separate topic, are there any good tutorial videos on how to get down Urien's midscreen Aegis reflector setup? I have trouble getting the charge partition timing down for the headbutt that allows you to cross over the player and have enough time to push them back into the Aegis reflector field. I'm wondering if I'm just making it too hard.

So the Japanese version is coming in October, and it will have the Japanese versions of all 12 games, plus the US versions of the 4 online games, so they can play online against the West.

The special editions for the PS4 and Switch will also have Tarot cards like the one above and 12 extra covers.

Are those the only cards? Lot of characters missing there and for some reason G gets one despite not even being in this collection lol

And by the looks of it Japan gets alternate covers for each of the 12 games? Wow, really feel like we got the short end of the stick here.

I'll be changing my PC copy's language to JP, as I am more used to the JP names in these games by now XP

Hopefully this version comes with everything on disc and nothing about the original arcade versions that need patching (like mono sound...)!

On the site is says that the special edition only comes with 1 of 12 extra covers. If you want all 12 you have to get the 24000 ($200 +) version that also comes with the framed art of Ryu. Geez!

Pricy though. Having a PS4 version of 3rd Strike and Super Turbo is mighty tempting.

It's going to be the existing SF30AC with the Japanese ROMs swapped in for everything except online play. How did expecting more than that become a thing?

From what I gather you get all the Japanese ROMs + 4 English ones for online play. But I'll be happy as long as the training and versus modes are on the disc, and the mono bugs have been fixed.

but is still Digital Eclipse or is Capcom Japan doing whatever additional work is required? That's all I'm asking.

DE's doing it. Capcom Japan was never gonna get involved outside of Museum assets. I have no clue why folks thought that would be the case, when there was no need for a developer change

Dammit. I was hoping that wasn't the case. Looks like I'll be sticking to Fightcade.

I refuse to reward Digital Eclipse & give them a penny for their shoddy work.

Same. Not giving Capcom a sale for using them again knowing full well their history. They have some of the same mistakes as back on MvC2.

I actually hope this pushes more people to Fightcade. They had the chance to pull everyone off of it if they went with a competent developer.

In Alpha 3 I'm having a huge problem with consistent DPs and Charlie's Somersault Justice. I'm looking at the inputs in training mode to make sure I'm not dropping any and I'm not. Is this just me being sloppy (read: have 4 and 5 made these too forgiveable?)

What's wrong with Digital Eclipse? Did something happen recently with the game that I don't know about?

People seem to be upset due to some members being a part of Backbone Entertainment, a company known for actually bad ports of games. Not AtGames or Atomic Planet bad but still pretty bad. Genesis games on PS3 skip their title screens, preventing option selections, Pit Fighter runs at fast speed, their online ports had glitches, etc.

Modern DE isn't nearly as bad though, IMO. MMLC is excellent on Switch and has lots of goodies, and SF30 has a great museum and is a fun way to experience the arcade games. The only compilation I think they dropped the ball on was Disney Afternoon as the Museum in that is pretty lame and the emulation is a lot more basic feeling than with LC, making it feel like a rom collection instead of a treasure trove. SNK 40TH in particular looks significantly more promising than any of those three titles though, mainly because I don't think NIS will be as bad to deal with as Capcom when it comes to sending in patches since Capcom didn't want to apply them most of the time. These guys have potential especially with Mika and Frank on board.

Do any of the available wired Switch controllers have a decent dpad? I've seen some from various companies and there's now an officially licensed table top stand for Switch that has USB ports, so wired controllers are now an option for me and this game :)

So, online issues aside, is the Switch version of this worth picking up? I'll be playing offline. And I have a wireless 8bitdo controller with a great d-pad, so directional inputs won't be an issue for me. Basically just want to know if the emulation is solid on Switch.

Offline is fine.

Not yet. Use a converter and get a PS4 fighting pad or stick.

Anybody here still play often? I'm pretty close to hitting top 150 on ST on PS4 but I feel like that's just because the player base is dwindling.

Got my Hori D Pad joycon today. Feels good to actually be able to pull off the moves now on my Switch. Played a tiny bit of Alpha 2 and 3 and 2 especially is night and day difference between the old and new joycons.

Hmm, it does sound tempting, however I don't know how many fighting games I'll get for the Switch so I'll probably refrain from getting one unless I somehow get an influx of money my way.
