Currently the #1 Seller in US steam store -

Seems an interesting potential model for other developers (setting aside the initial reaction). Essentially, providing a "near sequel" without developing a new game and having significant sales of the game on the patch launch. It may be more financially beneficial (when factoring development costs) than a true sequel.
I don't know how viable of a model it is though. They were just lucky they sold a metric shitton at launch based on hype alone so they could afford to provide all of these free updates. They've definitely put in the work since launch though so hopefully the game does well again now after this update.

Digging up treasure seems to be ridiculously profitable. I just made 650k credits off 13 treasure caches.

Also I found a bug where some string text seems to be missing on adhoc missions.

Seems like tessellation and HQ Clouds are features they had to make a point in saying they will be rolling out soon on all platforms. I hope that at least means the PC will have them.

I think it depends on the genre. Sandboxes will benefit on this more than a narrative-heavy or competitive game would. Still, it says something about how building the legs on your product can have great returns compared to release and forget.

I will be really surprised if the MP works when this goes live. This patch is kind of blowing up in popularity something is bound to go wrong. I really hope it works though.

Did not even think about that but you are right. Very good chance servers are pounded into oblivion and none of us will be able to play with friends right off the bat. BUT I hope we are wrong.

How the fuck do I get out of third person?
And the first plent they put me on was with high toxicity. Nice.
Down on the dpad, left to the cog, then select to change to first person.
Also I'm pretty sure everyone starts on a hazardous planet now so don't take it personally :p

Also your original game has to be just enough of a mess that people don't get pissed you overhauled it with a pseudo-sequel.

I am not saying they planned it this way - but launching a huge update with the port of the Xbox seems to have some real value. A lot of people bought it at launch, but a ton more are buying it today so they will definitely make a lot of money from this update.

I am just thinking other games (not all games) might consider such a move - versus "season passes" etc...

edit: As opposed to simply "porting the game" 2 years later which generally does not have big sales numbers.

I would be playing right now if psn wasn't so awful. Update keeps pausing and when it actually does download, its at just shy of a mbps. Can't wait to on top of this download episode 3 of the council.

Staggering releases. People need to be patient. I'm not surprised PC is last given it will likely be the biggest rollout, or i surmise.

Really excited for this. Left Steam on this morning to make sure the update is done by the time I get home from work. This game, though it didn't quite pull me the first go-round, had a certain charm I've been missing and I'm looking forward to diving back in.

Clear this one for me please - I though that having Steam online will just put the download in the queue, but you must trigger it?
