Not sure if this is just a UK thing, of if US customers will be affected too, but it appears that Amazon have dropped their Prime discount for any pre-orders:

We would now like to inform you that we will no longer offer the Prime discount of £2 on physical video game pre-orders from 7 August, 2018.

I'm still salty that we only ever got a £2 whilst US customers got 20% (I think).

They will probably do the same in Italy as well, and yes even here the Prime Discount is only 2€ off.

Iirc already happened to Amazon US.

Germany too.

Anyone know if the stuff you have preordered already will keep the £2 off?

Literally just pre-ordered Spiderman yesterday (as I expected it's going to be full price from most places) so lucky I did that before they cut it off

As if Amazon don't make enough money already. Not like it even matters, but I'll probably end up cancelling Prime and buying elsewhere. They're not really doing much to improve the benefits of Prime at all.

It's going to happen in the U.S as well guaranteed now that Best Buy is dropping GCU.

Sometimes I wonder if I should still bother with Prime. I don't play games as much as I used to and I've had games arrive later from them on the day than just heading to the supermarket. Seriously, if you deliver games at 9pm on launch day you may as well not bother.

i'm expecting them to go back to offer digital credit as a pre-order bonus to lock you into future purchases. like what they used to do a long time ago. if not just drop any discounts all together

there really isn't any reason to keep that benefit if there is no longer competition.

Amazon UK has always been way worse than the US. I guess they know people will still just use it out of laziness.

Hahahaha, it was fucking £2. Not sure whether it says more they removed a measly £2 discount or they even had such a pathetic discount in the first place.

you will continue to receive all these Twitch Prime benefits:

  • Discount codes for new video game releases
  • Bonus games that are yours to keep every month
  • Monthly subscription for your favourite Twitch streamer
  • In-game loot including outfits, vehicles and items, plus surprises and exclusives for popular games

Do we currently get discount codes for new releases (I don't recall ever getting one) or will this replace the £2 off preorders?

I'm usually happy to pay SimplyGames an extra fiver to get a game two or three days earlier anyway. Now THAT is a prime service.

I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the year all Prime discounts on pre orders are gone. I guess I'll have to go back to buying games a year or more later.

There were only a handful of instances where I pre-ordered games from Amazon. This just gives me an excuse to never use them.

Italy too! 2€ were not that much but what i don't like is that Amazon is really changing at worse! rising the price of Prime and now no discount on preorder...i hope for a new and strong contender to Amazon!

That's pretty lame tactic. I don't pre-order myself so I'm not affected directly but their whole push here feels like a calculated move to switch purchasing habits to Amazon using a discount hook then conveniently removing the hook while I presume hoping to keep majority of people who've become accustomed to using their service. Arguably that's the point of promotions but there approach felt less like a standard promotion where it's obvious to the consumer and more of a on-going service level they've abruptly changed for the worse on customers.

I'd rather not get the discount and spend my money elsewhere than let Amazon become what it wants.

RIP 2€ you won't be missed. The discount in Europe was always ridiculous and laughable compared to the 20% folks in the US got.

Since best buy stopped their gamers club amazon no longer has to compete with them for that, at least that's what makes the most sense to me on why they'd drop this thing.

I cancelled my Prime the other day anyway. Most the films are behind an extra paywall and quite a few of their next day deliveries took four days. What am I even paying for at that point?

why even buy games from amazon when you are in europe, you can easily get them 10-20€ cheaper
