Seriously, it's like comfort food for your ears! Pure magic that hasn't been lived up to since. Why is it so good?

Its the giddy anticipation of what follows that this sound fills me with. in my case usually WipEout XL or 3

Great choice, OP. My personal favourite gaming sound is still the legendary drop sound from Diablo III:

I'm also a big fan of the gold drop sound from the original Diablo:

(I'm not sure if the "item drop sound" accompanied it though. My memory may be failing me, but I remember it just being the tinkling of the gold...)

I mean, Zelda's chimes give me more feels than the PS1 startup sound.

Dreamcast's boot up is stitched further into my memory, disc churning and all.

It probably just sounds as good as it does because it evokes the feeling of starting a game in our childhood.

Yep, it's mesmerising.

I would really want a behind the scenes breakdown on how they came up with that

It's pleasurable from 12 seconds onwards.

Up until then, you are thinking "Please read the disc, please read the disc!" if your disc has gotten scratched from overuse. Rest well Crash Team Racing. At least I have you on PS3.

Don't agree in the slightest. To this day I feel an echo of anxiety around the 10s mark from all the times I hoped and prayed that the game would load. It's not pleasurable at all.

It's great because the second part is so unexpectedly creepy and low-key in comparison to the first, and both parts are also pretty great in themselves. Wonderful dynamics.
