One of them is a comedian filming a skit for television. These are not Cohen's actual views.
The other is an American Republican politician being absolutely serious while using racial slurs and stereotypes. He does not realize that this is a comedy skit.
Both of them, though, right?

Probably some mix of stupidity, and people who are only not seen saying this stuff because no one's given them the green light in public yet.
I watched the first episode with the guns for kids bit and at a certain point had to ask myself 'is this just magic?' Like those shit magic tricks where the audience is in on it and camera tricks about.
I'm deeply shocked that anyone would be this willingly stupid in front of tv cameras. It's very comfortable and easy for me to believe people whose views I don't agree with are that stupid, but is it actually real?

Wasn't the Congressional baseball field shooting perpetrated by a white shooter? Seems a little odd to use that as evidence of having a paralyzing fear when you're making fun of minorities.

He is displaying the absurdity of the fear. Cohen isn't making fun of Muslims.
Ever heard the expression "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink"? I guess it's not true about leading a shitbag to the n-word, totally SBC's fault.
The real issue isn't that racial slurs causes minorities to burst into flames, and Cohen is causing damage by causing someone to say it. It's that this politician is willing to be racist when encouraged in the first place, whether or because he's weak and collapses to social pressure or because he's comfortable saying it privately. He didn't have to say anything. Cohen is revealing that willingness.

I mean, let's be clear, Spencer didn't have to say anything, he wasn't forced, he was barely cajoled. Joe Negron was on the show last week when they were talking about Guns and basically walked off because he realized that Cohen was full of shit. Meanwhile 10 other Republican leaders leaned hard into the concept of ARMING FOUR YEAR OLD CHILDREN.
This is not a both sides issue. This is a "these people need to be investigated for a vote of no-confidence" issue.
