In my experience 99% shitty decals don't want keep getting. I wonder if they changed their rates recently just before revealing these stats

From the blog post:
NOTE: These drop rates have been the same since our Crates and Keys system launched in September 2016. Every Crate and Crate Series in Rocket League are subject to these rates, whether it was the retired Champions Series Crates or the next Crate we're releasing later this summer.

the only blemish (and a very very big one at that) on an otherwise perfect video game

I have no problem at all with this. I've never paid for keys. I've received plenty of crates, and always wait for the free decryptors during events, and I've received some really cool new cars and animated skins that I love.

You haven't, but a lot of people have. Also, this game is very popular with younger people (just look at the average age of the professional players).

That's how probability works...it's not a guarantee. In the realm of loot box drop rates these seem far higher than most games that have had their rates disclosed
It's a little deceiving though, because to get something that's actually valuable you have to get an exotic AND have it painted a specific color (1/15 chance). The chance to get the most valuable drop in the game (white zomba with striker cert) is 0.00064%

Yet... You don't need the most valuable drop in the game to play it as much as you want, at the highest competitive level. The loot crate stuff is totally optional, and it's not shoved in your face. You win crates; you win decryptors; you can play the game and have as much fun as you want without spending an extra dime. Doesn't seem predatory to me at all. Rocket League is one of the few games doing it right IMO.

I stop spending money on their DLC cars the instant they introduced loot boxes.

But its nowhere near the worst, but then I actively avoid loot box games so probably the main game I've played with them in...

Black markets are all valuable. from 5-70 keys. Only a few painted items are worth over 20 keys these days(like ten total). But don't open crates for profit(or at all).

They said they are releasing a crate later this summer so probably not. Though they are adding more ways of getting stuff without opening crates with keys like the rocket pass, and decryptors. The new XP system will also reward some decryptors I believe. I'm hoping Rocket Pass does very well for them so they can keep moving away from crates and keys.

Are you saying it's not bad because it's the Overwatch "just cosmetic" route? It's absolutely predatory. If you have an addictive personality or an inkling towards gambling it's a system that promotes pouring money into it over and over until you get what you want, if you ever do. If the option to turn off crates also stopped you from seeing other players' fancy looking black market decal or goal explosion, it would be a lot better. But especially with goal explosions, it's very easy to see something over and over again and start to think, I really want that. Kids especially are enticed by cool fancy visuals.

They give you a very small amount of decryptors vs actual number of crates you get.

I had the same experience when opening some crates with FREE decryptors during events in the past, felt bad for people who actually pay for this shite. Glad I never had to put a penny in this amazing game because of ps+. Still haven't bought a single car but I kinda want that Jurassic Park jeep, might be my first purchase.

Which isn't really a issue since you can just go and trade for it instead.

The only thing I don't get is how exactly they get valued trade-wise, like what it is about certain colors and certain certifications that make them more valuable. If someone can explain it to me, I'd really like to know.

striker is the most valuable cert because it's very easy to rank it up
white is the most popular color because it matches with any colors for your car

when they redo the progression system this summer, my guess is 1 per level up like in Overwatch
I'd be shocked if they gave away that many to be honest. There's no way. There will be titles, banners, other cosmetic drops to get from leveling as well. They won't give out that many decryptors.

Lol calling the easiest to get items at 55% rare ... How is that rare? And 1% for the black market items? I mean, that would be ok if you got 3 items per crate like overwatch, but 1 item with a 1% chance? That's a lot of money ...

It's ok though!!! Saying anything negative about the system is 100% wrong and you deserve to be downvoted into oblivion!!!

The best part is when you get a decal or some other decoration for a car you don't yet own, so you're incentivized to get more loot boxes to be able to use it.
