Yeah never auto tap if you plan on casting more than one card until your next turn

I like that he has a Sol Ring. The control has an unusual duration, caring about the end of your next turn.

I imagine this will be a cycle. Commanderstorm makes sense, since you already have to keep track of it.

Yeah I think Arena isn't for me limited is my jam and drafting against bots takes all the fun out of it.

It's so you actually get a chance to use it. I also like to picture that the goblin is stealing artifacts from every player as the turns go around the table and then when it gets to your turn you untap with a whole pile of artifacts to play with. It's a fun design.

Tawnos, my man, nice.

Goblin sounds like a lot of fun, great way to counteract those games where everyone gets their Sol Ring on turn one except you.

Echo Storm is cute. I'm sure there's a way to abuse it.

So I guess they're doing a deck a day until the full reveal Friday?

That land is going to enable lots of PW combos.

Oh wait, it only works on commander PWs. Hmm, not so great then. Probably autoinclude in Teferi though.

The Tawnos art looks REALLY BAD >_<

Anyway I think this is a Phyrexianized Myr? Would have preferred the Myr creature type though:

The card seems pretty weak. I feel like if someone is playing a more expensive enchantment, they won't care too much about the damage. It was MaRo's Twitter reveal, BTW.

Flash
This spell costs 1 less for each attacking creature
Trample
When CARDNAME dies, create a 6/12 colorless Construct artifact creature token with trample.

The golem is also a statue of Cosi, the Zendikar god who is actually Kozilek. Same mana cost, power, and toughness too.

I found some Kaladesh at Target for 3.33 and figured I hadn't opened any of that set yet so I grabbed a few.

I pulled a Static Orb. One of the cheapest masterpieces but... still. That was fun. I think I'm going to only by packs for draft and sealed from this point forward and just grab singles now.

So far the spoilers from the Izzet deck are pretty underwhelming which is disappointing. They will preview one new deck per day right? Which means we've seen all the new cards from the Izzet deck by now?

I am mostly recovered from SDCC. I will say this year was by far the easiest and least hassle in obtaining exclusives I have ever had. I won a timeslot to buy from the Hasbro booth, showed up 30min early expecting a huge line, there was none, walked up bought the cards, and walked away in under 20min. Essentially no waiting as far as Comic Con lines go.

The cards obviously did well in resale, though I probably could have gotten more for them if I was less lazy and didn't just want to make 1 trip to the post office. So I sold some under-market by a bit. The non-Magic stuff from the con was good too, I didn't even really attempt to resell anything, I just sold it to friends at face value or for a free beer as they told me they wanted stuff. Was one of the better times overall.

I peeked into the Magic playing room and it seemed busy as usual, they were also giving away free welcome decks (2 30-card decks) in a box to people who wanted them on the con floor. Those seemed to be doing brisk business as well.

Estrid looks pretty cool. But otherwise, yeah, nothing too exciting there. Aura tokens are (mostly) new ground.

Kind of weird to see Saheeli in that lineup, though.
Saheeli v1 was super nerfed late in development and I'm not surprised they jumped at the chance to do a better version.

Designing Commander (2018 Edition)
* They got feedback that Commander players hate dealing with emblems, so none of the planeswalkers here make them.
* People who didn't like tribal decks avoided last year's decks, so they're trying out having three decks stick to a theme and the last going for something different.
* They did try to keyword the commander storm cycle, but they wanted it to use the word "storm" and all variations sounded wrong. They opted to use "storm" in the card names instead.
* They roped in the Commander rules committee to test out the decks.

So this card doesn't completely dodge the commander tax, but it's very cleverly constructed in such a way that it's not particularly hampered by it either. I'm not really sure what to think about a card like this especially when printed inside the commander product.
I like it a lot. Even from a non-commander standpoint, I think Hydras would be a lot easier to design and a lot easier for new players to understand if they all worked like this.

"Lands matter" is a kinda bad mechanic to design a pre-con around. It wants all 10 fetches by default (because WOTC basically just sees lands mattering as "landfall" zzzzzzzz) and they're not going to include any of them.

Clearly they see other uses for lands matter, hence retrace. Now whether they cared enough to make it work in the deck is to be seen.

Right, but "lands matter" ends up with people putting other Landfall cards in their deck, and stuff like Oracle of Mul Daya, etc. so even if they design around it a little, the most generically powerful stuff is things like Avenger of Zendikar that just do ridiculous shit with land.

Oh okay, I see what you mean. Yeah if they wanted to push something other than landfall then they needed to make some new good "land matters" cards for the deck as build-arounds. It is disappointing that most of the commanders for the deck don't really care about lands in an interesting way. Windgrace barely counts.

Yeah this just isn't quite cutting it. Too bad.

I like Planeswalkers in general but without absolutely absurd self-defense capabilities or things that scale ridiculously well to number of players at the table, they just aren't viable commanders. They're just an overpriced sorcery attached to a global taunt effect.

I'll also note that even as someone with an Atraxa Superfriends deck I have never, ever run into the problem of "lol how do i hold all these emblems". Maybe they're talking about like the instant pop-off Gideon and Sorrin emblems or something, but "I've got a pile of emblems and we're still having something that resembles an actual game" isn't a problem that I've ever witnessed in commander.

It's because land is a dumb thing to care about. People don't like that because they like Landfall (for some insane reason) but "lands matter" is a mechanic I've never cared for, particularly the two times we were forced to deal with stupid Zendikar.

I just find that it's an inherently lame thing to care about because of the way lands work in Magic.

overall the lands precon seems lame so far, I like a couple individual cards and will be building around Windgrace but there's a clear disconnect between what Wotc considered a lands deck and what players do.

the issue is more that you can't interact w/ an opponent's emblem that makes you feel bad.
