Also it's 2018 and this guy's schtick was funny before the social media wave where literally everyone now has a video of them tricking someone.

It's kinda hard to find any humor in this at this point since they literally double down and have fully accepted their abhorance as normal.

Very lazily done show. He needs new ideas.

I have no idea how Sacha stays in character and keeps rolling during some of these situations. Years of practice don't hurt I guess but some of this stuff boggles the mind

People saying it's a bit hit and miss are forgetting that, largely, Baron Coen's stuff has always been like that.

The movies are great because they're a condensation of longer form segments and series, trimming away a lot of the fluff or worse segments. But his TV shows were always hit and miss. A lot of The Ali G Show was great; a lot of it wasn't. Sounds like it's the same here. Which is fine by me.

It's similar to how And Now for Something Completely Different is a condensation of Monty Python's first couple of seasons, much of which were more miss than hit. It was all refreshing, but not a lot of it was very good.

I haven't watched this shoe yet, but I am glad he is doing this type of show again.
I think that the Ali G show was so much better than any scripted film he has done.

Cohen plays characters so extreme that people instinctively react to them, one way or another. It's an interesting way to shed light on people, but this also feels very, very targeted. I'll see if that makes it better or worse!

Show is tough to watch but, IMO, necessary. As frightening as it is, this is what a large group of people in the country find to be acceptable viewpoints and behavior. I'm all for any show that gets these people on video for as long as possible while they spout their abhorrent viewpoints (hopefully forever)

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I disagree completely on everything you just said.

He's doing a public service exposing these cockroaches for the people they actually are. The fact they had to get out in front of it says it all! Abhorrent people. Expose the lot.

Episode one was alright. This one got a lotta laughs out of me. The final skit was straight-up a Bruno skit from Da Ali G Show in such a good way.

This show is fucking great. People got exposed.

Tried to watch a bit of this and couldn't enjoy it cause it's for real who is running the country :(

Conservatives were fun to make fun of before Trump. Now It's like laughing at an idiot who set fire to a house we are both in.

Nope, still fun to make fun of. The house was on fire long before Trump.

It's going to get some of these people fired, like Spencer.

Spencer got primaried out so he won't be able to keep his seat. Not that it'd stop him from moving somewhere else in politics.

In reality what should be telling the lack of consequence the assholes from last week got for supporting the Kinderguardian program.

The Mosque bit was so damn funny. How he was congratulating the guy for pointing out how lucky they were to have black people in their town? I was literally crying. I can see why some might be over the same tired Trump jokes everyone is doing but he seems to be taking a broader approach and hopefully won't fall into that trap.

The liberal stereotype didn't even go that far. Like I feel like he was going to go further but then he got the response from the crowd.

"Oh I didn't mean to imply anybody here was racist."
"I am. I'm racist against Muslims."
Sasha looks a bit speechless.

I mean what do you even say to that.

I just saw the second episode and I found it even better than the first. The most boring character from last episode (the liberal) was the best of this episode.

That Spencer segment at the beginning is unreal. He's got that good old fashioned baby boomer prejudice. Rich, complex, full-bodied prejudice. The kind of prejudice that sticks to your ribs.

I mean, what kind of provincial doof associates "konnichiwa" and "sushi" with Chinese people? The kind that's curiously uninhibited about racist caricature, I guess.

Also, did you see the naughty smile pulling at his cheeks when he got to yell the N-word? I did. I can't believe this guy made such a fool of himself with a camera rolling. But hey, at least he didn't leave empty handed. He learned the invincible self-defense technique of charging terrorists with his bared buttocks while screaming "America!"

Yeah, it's pretty lazy of a talented character actor to invite influential people to show their asses (sometimes literally!) in service of justice and clear-headedness, in a time when the leader of the free world communicates exclusively through lies, bluster, and playground-level abuse.

It's not like humor has a robust historical role in politically fraught circumstances or anything. Yup, Cohen's basically just another Youtuber who makes prank videos!

this episode was amazing

holy shit, that georgia lawmaker. he didn't need much prodding at all to gleefully make incredibly vacuous stereotypes of asians, and throw out slurs like "sand [n-word]" left and right, and then literally showing his ass to scare away isis terrorists that would be afraid of becoming gay

the town hall segment at the end was incredible. as in very hard to believe it could be real. but i guess it was. it was apparently reported on by local news (i'm giving a google cache link because the site itself blocks EU visitors because of GDPR lmao) at the time of filming (the paper chose to highlight the possibility of a mosque being built in their headline). at least, from that article, it sounds like there were some somewhat sane people in that meeting:
Mudge, who attended with her husband, said she and some of the other attendees speculated the purported focus group was going to be used to create a show or documentary about hate toward Muslims using the responses from the meeting.

"They claimed it (the filming) was for the architectural firm that was going to build the mosque," she said. "We even tried pointing out to those around us to stop playing into the speaker's hands by responding because it was all a set up. So many members responded with hate, some with blatant racism and a whole lot of ignorance."

Mudge said she realized the group was fake when the speaker said the Kingman building site was already bought; she drives by the "for sale" signs every day.
but jeeze, usa is a truly fucked up country if you have communities where such racial hatred is so commonplace

The absolute cheek of them having that last bit with yer man stating that he's an elected representative after the awful shit he's just done directly before they show the state's logo indicating they got funding or other help with the production of the show.

Absolutely brilliant.

This should have been episode 1. Much stronger (outside of the NRA bit from episode 1).

Duping the guy into yelling the n-word at the top of his lungs was something else entirely. But the Mosque bit was especially stunning in that he literally only had to say the word "mosque" for the racists to go haywire on him.

He was yelling so much dumb shit. Hong Kong (not China, but at least debatable), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Sushi (yep), and indeed "konnichiwa".

Incredible. Every segment was great this week.

'Now I'm not insinuating anyone here is racist...'

'I am, I'm racist. I'm racist towards muslims'

Sacha has knocked it out of the park so far in finding these people and getting them to expose themselves.

but they stood there for almost 12 hours. Straight up Ali G in that segment, classic. I sure wonder what the difference is with the people who don't go along with his blatant act...

They don't want black people around, either. They just "tolerate" them.

Crazy that this guy is apart from the government. Hell, you could even say it for most of the ones in the government as of right now.

Atleast before they hid their hateful and bigoted views and beliefs. What an embarrassment

Also I've watched both episodes of Who is America?

This show is a mixture of comedy and depression for me. It's pretty wacky that Cohen is still able to dupe politicians and celebrities into fake interviews and getting them to expose themselves on a national TV show.

The Jason Spencer segment of episode 2 has been making the rounds in the news: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entr...on-who-is-america_us_5b5545b1e4b0de86f48e5a5e

Good segment showed that good old racism will always trump the economic anxieties of rural america... Being offered investment of 380m but you know "as soon as you mentioned mosque you ruined it!!!"

An Arizona newspaper called "Who is America?" a reality show, a quote from a person who was interviewed: " "I think they were trying to piss us off, just for reactions," said an attendee who asked not to be named." Well it worked!!!!: http://www.mohavedailynews.com/news...cle_1a4eb65a-f115-11e7-99ba-876f77c9a6fd.html

Jan 3, 2018

A reality TV show production crew is apparently behind rumors regarding the supposed sale of a local shopping center in order to build a mosque.

Clear Meadow Films recruited people interested in participating in a focus group through local Facebook pages; attendees signed a consent form that allowed filming and use of the film on air.

"The speaker started off saying lots of jobs were coming to our area because we were chosen to begin a $385 million construction project on a plot of land in Kingman located at the Bank/Airway intersection," said Venessa Mudge, a Kingman resident who attended a focus group meeting in Bullhead City. "He said the project was going to be the building of the world's largest mosque outside of the Middle East. He implied that Muslims would take over our town and we'd all be converted or would have to move."

"I think they were trying to piss us off, just for reactions," said an attendee who asked not to be named. "Because the stuff they were stating was just absurd."

The speaker told attendees that the land was purchased already and permits obtained for the building.

"He showed pictures of our town with business signs photoshopped into Muslim languages," Mudge said. "He used many trigger statements like the Muslims would be protected from regular citizens to make sure there were no terror attacks from us."

Recruitment advertising on local Facebook pages under the name Cory Nicks offered $100 for anyone willing to participate in a community development focus group led by "a community relations representative for a real estate developer," Mudge said. Residents from Kingman were paid $150 for the inconvenience of being bused to Bullhead City.

"They told us about the film crew when we got to the convention center," Mudge said. "They didn't ask us if we wanted to opt out once we found out about the film crew. They told us we couldn't have our phone. They also had a security guard at the door to scan us with a detector or search any bags/purses we may have had with us."

First ep. was not good at all. Almost stopped watching it. Even do i love s.b cohens early stuff, especially Alli G's bits in the states.
Man did the second half of the second ep. pick it up loved it created the kind of situations i could watch for hours.
