Guys, I cant change the volume of my cast devices using volume up and down almost never... Sometimes it works but mostly it doesnt. Is there a way to force it to be always available? Seems like there is a process not working properly. I hate having to go inside the Google Home app to do it.

Such a sexy phone.

Damn it is 7.1.1 September 2017 update.

Guess it never had a second shipment lol.

Seems solid so far. Great build and design. Sexiest phone I've own yet. Especially for $250.Doing many updates though.

Vibration motor sucks

If said screw it and picked it up, that matte would have been my color.

My TV Chromecast has started doing this, too.

Liking my gray Essential. Had to order a new SIM card from Sprint though since my Nexus 6 one is incompatible, so it will be a few more days before I can fully switch.

It's been years since I've used a phone that I've felt this confident without a case.
the matte texture sides and back with no curved bullshit, so easy to hold.

It's a lot heavier than expected, but yeah, it's gonna make me sad to put a case on it. I use phone wallets though, and I don't want to start carrying a purse again.

Are there any pop-ups when you try to adjust the volume? Some formats have to be done on the TV/receiver level.

If you are adventurous the sim cards are the same, just cut around the plastic housing to fit the nanosim slot and it should work!

I use a Home Mini and a Chromecast Audio. I meant that sometimes I can change the volume through here:

Screenshot_20180722_232057.png

Sometimes, it shows the "phone volume" (like in the pic) but also shows a second volume option for cast devices. I have no idea why it sometimes have this option and sometimes it doesn't.

Usually it works for a few seconds after I start casting something, and then it is gone:

Screenshot_20180722_232649.png

Similarly, when Im inside Spotify (and casting), if I change the volume it will change the cast device volume, but then after some time it will start changing my phone volume again.

I've read it can be something related to the system killing some background stuff to save battery but I cant "fix" it.

Edit. I found that spotify was in the "optimize battery" list (all apps are there by default). Removed it, it is now showing me the volume option. Lets see if it keeps working after some time.

I've stopped giving a shit and gone case less on my S9+. Feels so and looks so much better naked. It's a shame that these things aren't very durable from a cosmetic point of view. The fact that pretty much slaps a case on their phone is half the reason why people say all of them feel and look the same.

Usually not. They also used to never release security patches on the reg either, but here I am. Lol
While I get your point. I think they were pretty much forced to do security patches with how much of a fuzz there was around that and Android manufacturers not delivering on those. I wouldn't be holding my breath for big .1 updates at this point though.

Hello

I just bought a Huawei Honor 7X with Android 8 and I can't seem to find where do I change the damn notification sounds for Outlook or Gmail

This is what I see in Notifications in the Outlook App

If I press "Sent mail sound" this is what I get:
H2ncXhF.jpg

But if I press the New mail sound" button I get this:

And I don't see where I can change the damn custom sound!

Thanks for any help....

Welp, pulled the trigger on a white OnePlus 6 8/128. Not too happy about the notch but that price was just right. Should be here by Wednesday.

Caseless is so much better.

I like the look of all glass phones, but the fact that you have to slap a hideous case on them because of how fragile they are makes the point of a glass phone moot. Would much rather have soft touch plastic(not the shitty cheap plastic that Samsung used on the S5/Note 4 and earlier) or metal(though the loss of wireless charging would be slightly painful).

Anyone else have problems with bluetooth on a Nexus 6p?

I get drops all the time when I'm in my car. It usually reconnects itself within 30 seconds or so, but still can be super annoying. I'm pretty sure it has to do with receiving an MMS text as weird as that sounds. I've had a few times where I hear the text notification and next thing you know the song/call drops.

Any fixes for this?

I remember really liking my Note 4's feel. That sorta faux-leather plastic paired with the metal edges, plus it allowed for a removeable battery which I wish would make a comeback someday.

Phones are finally hitting the point where upgrades aren't massive improvements, so I'll probably start keeping my phone longer which means swapping out a new battery will be a more useful feature than ever.

The LG G4 was the pinnacle of plastic casing + removable battery while still keeping a premium feel. It's a shame that the phone was such a trainwreck.

Sony announced a new 48MP 1/2" camera sensor for mobiles, apparently it'll be available by September this year

Dunno if it'll be in future Xperia's, or if this is a model to sell to other manufacturers though. If it does find its way into future Xperia's it'll certainly reduce the need for a separate zoom lens. Wonder if we'll see this show up in any devices at IFA.

Unknown. I think it depends on whether this new sensor is one Sony's keeping for themselves or if they're selling this to third parties. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the XZ3 has the exact same camera setup as the XZ2P. I've been reading all sorts of rumors for the past couple of weeks like:

- XZ3 will have a single camera setup
- XZ3 will have the XZ2P camera
- XZ3 will have a 1" camera
- XZ3 doesn't exist and we'll be seeing XZ2s

lol, hard to know which rumors are bullshit at this point.

Looks like Samsung leaked their next Galaxy phone.
https://www.cnet.com/news/did-samsu...xy-watch/?ftag=COS-05-10aaa0b&linkId=54633764

They showed a pic of a Rose Gold 42mm version, which pretty much looks just like the Classic S3. Since they list 42mm in it, I'm hoping that implies they will make a smaller version like the Apple Watch has.

Now I'm glad I bought a used S3 frontier for $135. This new watch is probably going to be $350 for not much of an upgrade.

Im hoping that this new watch is either cheaper (or has a cheaper option) or the S3 gets discounted enough for me to overlook the size.

Would also be pretty awesome if they ever allow for Samsung Pay to work when paired with an iPhone too (sounds like that Samsung Pay card thing works with iPhones, so I don't get why their watches can't).
Guess if they sell an LTE version it wouldn't matter, but I'm sure that'd be more expensive and require another monthly charge.

i don't think they ever would allow that.

maybe if the EU runs up some monopoly charges or something...

Yeah, I know.
Just wish there was a work around for it or something, like put my cards into the watch with my computer or Android phone, and just let Samsung Pay work with a basic Bluetooth connection to an iPhone.

I don't even have an iPhone, it would just make one of these watches way more attractive if I knew it was cross compatible.

In retrospect I don't think it's a coincidence that the new Sony CMOS sensor is 48MP and can use its "quad bayer filter array" to produce 12MP shots with improved low light. I can see them coupling that with the 12MP monochrome sensor of the XZ2P and having the AUBE fusion ISP combine 'em. I'm sure that would probably work out better than what they're doing now where it combines a 19 MP and 12 MP image. It should provide for far better low light as well I'd think.

Just curious if Sony kept a better sensor for themselves while selling this one to other manufacturers.

I was looking at the possibility of upgrading my LG Watch R to something with NFC payments, but they're way too expensive. Can't use the Samsung as it doesn't support Google Pay and my bank doesn't support Samsung Pay.

Update: everything is AI camera software. Boring as hell.

Edit: also, fun fact: the phones are announced and launched officially today from Spain despite the official Mi stores here still not receiving any stock of them at all (source: friend works at one)

Edit 2: Mi A2 for 250€ to 350€ depending on storage/RAM configuration

Tbh, sounds an evolution of the Nokia Lumia 1020, which made 5 MP pictures downscaled from the 41 MP ones.

Finally. Just took forever. Now hopefully this will be used.

So... contract renewal is on the way, so I'm browsing replacement phones. Only thing is, this time, I'm completely comfortable with my current phone (an S7 Edge), and - for once - have managed to get through a few years of ownership without causing huge damage to the screen (fond as I am of my old S5... let's just say it's not waterproof any more!).

As such, I might well be leaning to a SIM-only renewal this time around, but I thought it worth shopping around and thinking about what I want out of things.

* I've always been a Samsung Galaxy S-range purchaser; this doesn't have to be set in stone, but it's a habit I'm comfortable with.
* The most compelling 'please stay loyal!' offer from my provider is an S9. There are also S9+ deals, but those are a little higher than my current tariff (the S9 is actually a small amount lower than what I currently pay, although not as low as SIM-only deal, of course!)
* I've not really paid attention to other providers (or, indeed, non-S Samsungs), I'm not inherently averse to them!

Ultimately: I don't really know if there's anything from the last couple of years which makes a compelling reason to upgrade my handset as it stands. There's a couple of reasons outside of that context (I think my parents could probably make use of a second-hand smartphone, for one thing!), but from being slightly out of the news, I don't feel like this hardware's unable able to cut it currently.

So... thoughts? Anything I probably ought to take into account? Brexit? Interesting hardware *right* on the horizon?

Camera looks to be a decent improvement over last year's Mi A1. No headphone jack, no microSD slot and no NFC support though.

Pricing on Mi A2 seems to be okay, but I feel the Nokia 7 Plus offers a far better package overall. HMD also does a much better job supporting their Android One phones than Xiaomi (8.1 Oreo roll out didn't go smooth). But is all of this worth paying €100-150 more?

Depends, I guess. If 4Ah battery (actual no-bullshit 2-day battery life), NFC and headphone jack are necessities it's really worth the extra price. Take into account that the A2 with 64GB is 280€ already, and the 7+ can easily be found for ~350€ so the difference is not that huge.

The A2 is some major bullshit. The preformance difference between the 636 and 660 while noteable, is nowhere NEAR the gap of say, a SD625/630 VS SD660.
https://www.guidingtech.com/snapdragon-636-vs-660-comparison/
Hell, the preformance and feature set of the 636 makes for a bigger gap between it and the 625/630 than the 660. The reason I mention this is because of this:
https://m.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_5_ai_dc-review-1777.php

For about 60€ less, you get a downclocked 660 and a micro-usb port, but those are the only downsides compared to the Mi 6X. Speaking strictly for Xiaomi phones, its not worth the asking price imo. If we expand to other manufactuers, even Meizu is ahead of the curve, and then some.
https://m.gsmarena.com/meizu_16_and...ification_more_renders_surface-news-32397.php

The regular Meizu 16 should land at around 400€, and even despite my hatred for glass backs, I would get behind the regular 16 if my speculated price is correct.

From what info I can gather so far, it looks like this sensor will be sold to other companies. Wonder which companies will decide to use it. That does raise the question, historically Sony has kept an exclusive sensor for their own mobiles so what exactly is their plan? The 19MP sensor they're using on the XZ2P has now been in use for about a year and a half, so they're likely due for switch to a newer sensor themselves soon. Whether that's going to be at IFA or MWC is anyone's guess.

Two weeks in on the OnePlus 6 and I'm still very much in love with this phone. It's not without flaws but no phone had ever been. And they're minor at that. I'm missing the wireless charging, but dash charging more than makes up for it. Not being waterproof is a bit of a shame. I'm missing the Apple Watch like crazy. Pocket mode is great since I have my hands in my pocket a lot, but it buzzes every time it activates, which is annoying. Finally, the ambient auto display is crap. It makes the screen too dark and kicks in easy too late, it's unusable.

But the speed, the look, the amazing screen, the great mods they did to stock Android. All just pretty much as close to perfection you can get. Amazing work by OnePlus on this one.
