Sorry if this is the wrong thread but considering getting the upcoming One release and just wonder how difficult is the game to begin with on normal difficulty? I don't know a huge amount about the weather system but wonder how long you can withstand the hazards on the planets before needing to recharge.

Outside of survival mode (or permadeath) the game is pretty easy going, mostly its about exploring and enjoying the ambience. There are planets which will deplete suit reserves faster than normal but the game does a pretty good job of showing you that happening, and if you're careful keeping on top of your supplies you should never find yourself in a situation where you can't just flee any planet that looks rough.

There's also literally a lobby screen with 16 slots.
I am aware. Right now I am just going to assume that this is the old menu still left in there, to be patched out day 1.

Sean would have happily mentioned 16 players if that was the case. Especially since you now can travel between populated areas of Euclid so easily.

Thank you very much for this more in depth answer. Unfortunately the dogfighting situation does not sound very appealing. So the problem is the AI and not the controls. With substantial amount of dogfighting I meant that there is enough dogfighting for a play-style where you spent the majority in your space ship. I am not much interested in survival game mechanics or cataloging random stuff. I guess I check in a month or so when enough people should be acquainted with this new patch if it improves the dogfighting.

If dogfighting is your primary concern, NMS isn't the game for you. It's faaaaar from the focus of the game, just a little side activity that can happen every now and then on the way to other things. It's decent, but definitely nothing you should buy the game for. You technically COULD spend most of your time in your ship, but that sounds really awful. 99% of the game content is on foot.

This is still confusing. May choose to? So no random encounters? Or yes?

Yes. Seems like it's 16 people per lobby (or universe/solar system, it's not clear which one yet)

I think you're wrong here, but we'll see soon enough.

Even survival and permadeath are easy once you get of your starter planet and get up and running.
Grindy, but certainly not difficult.

That's a good point, once you get established in those modes its not that difficult.

I know from the old place 1.3 thread plenty of people managed but the most difficult thing I've done was the armourer mission to destroy the ships in orbit, everything else wasn't too bad at all.

With this community there is something you must understand. We tend to make shit about the game up, often in direct conflict with what HG say officially.

Sean has said that multiplayer is playing co-op with a small number of friends, this is what you should expect, despite what the community says.

And here is something you must understand.

He already showed 5 people on one screen in the trailer.
End of story.

This is from the disc version of the NEXT update, which is an old build, likely 1-2 months old. Everything in there could change with the day 1 patch.

The "Day One Patch" came 2 days ago and was 4,8gb big. So "1-2 months old build" is literally wrong and yes the leaker played with that patch.

I am kind of excited about survival mode. I hope they can tweak it to make it harder, but less grindy.

Seeing as there's placeholders and missing functionality according to leakers we're still thinking the 4.8 GB download is NEXT rather than the day 1 patch.

Someone has already tweeted that he ran into a random player in a space station

But did that player then somehow choose to join that server? Otherwise it seems INCREDIBLY unlikely that they'd just accidentally run into each other in this specific space station out of the millions or billions in the galaxy.

I haven't played this since around launch when I put like 30 hours into it, but I distinctly remember the controller feeling *much* better than mouse and keyboard. Is that still the case?
I think they fixed the jerky mouse movement in the Pathfinder update if I'm not mistaken. It's a lot better now. The tethering options for flight control also work very well with a mouse in my opinion: as you move the mouse around an indicator will move around and stretch out from the targeting reticle giving you very precise feedback on which way and how hard you're turning your ship. You can use the old method though still if you like. You can also now look around the cockpit by holding down Alt.

How do you know they were all players? There was a bunch of sentinels running about in a pack, did you assume they were playable too?

Your jumping to conclusions, assuming features from a 2sec clip in a 1min trailer are what's wrong here. Stop assuming and just wait. No one's asking you to pre-order and no-one is trying to scam you. Just stop and wait.

Is the discord cross-platform? I'd like to find some PS4 peeps to space out with.

Of course, there's no preference from what I've seen and there's nothing in it that is "locked" to a particular platform.
I can't promise it'll be wall to wall team members mind, but for finding ERA peeps I've had good luck in other community Discord channels, plus its more intimate than the official NMS discord which is hectic :)

No offense, but it's not a Day 1 patch if it's not day 1. We are all making assumptions here but it has been mentioned that even the leakers are saying the game right now does not feel like the final version for NEXT's release.

So do we know how grouping up in multiplayer is going to work? Will we be able to start a new game directly with our buddies or will everyone need to start alone and travel through half of the galaxy to find each other?

I can understand the second part of your text because that is correct, there seems to be at least one more patch coming, but this quote, in general, is bollocks.
Plenty of "Day One" patches are downloadable days before the game releases. It would be not the first time, nor the 75th time.

Think you'll likely need to start your own saves to begin with, but you can certainly join each other after that without needing to manually find and travel to one another. You will all need to be playing the same mode though.

I kinda want to hop onto the X1X version but I also need some detailed information regarding framerate and so on... I guess I can wait until tomorrow :)

how does fast travel work in this game?

for example, if i pick a planet and build a base on it and go out exploring the cosmos - do i have to fly all the way back home? or can i fast travel back to base and explore again?

Yeah I'm very interested in the 1X performance.

How useful are the pre order goodies? Do they mess up early game balance or are they worth getting?

I know it could change in 24 hours, but does anyone have some simple trading tips for early game NMS? I feel like everyone I talk to my items are below galactic value and I am never sure if the items found in random boxes on planets are worth keeping.

You can teleport to your base from space stations and such.

I'd say the pre-order goodies have next to no value, credits you'd make in little time and you'd possibly get a better multitool in a similar span. Only thing which may have some value would be the cosmetic suit, but that looks daft and anyone who likes it is a monster who should be ashamed ;)

Simultaneously the best and worst pre order things you can get TBH, great cos they don't mess up the balance, terrible because they don't mess up the balance :)

Early game I wouldn't try and find that perfect place to sell stuff on, space is limited and you probably won't have the economy scanner to help find affluent systems anyway, I'd sell things quick even if under value to keep your limited inventory clear and get cash to expand that, only then consider keeping high value things to sell for profit.
I'd say the same for the general "cultural artefacts" and such, though (prior to NEXT) a lot of those are required for missions/crafting so I try and keep them if I'm able so I don't need to hunt them specifically. I found using the colossus as a storage device rather than a vehicle helped too.

Like you say though straysheep it call all be turned on its head tomorrow.

Hi, I'd just like to confirm that I am, in fact, a monster and am quite ashamed of myself. Hoping PlayStation gets a similar goofy looking cosmetic suit. :P

I'm likely to give the game another go. Should I start fresh or continue my other save (It was just a normal save, no special mode or anything, made at launch). I've put in like 40 hours all before the game had any big changes so there is a lot I've not seen. I do remember loading my save at one point and finding my ship was changed (it was a nice white thing and replaced by a red one).

I'd start over and have a go at the new (story) progression. This should also ease you back in to all the new stuff added rather than being confronted by it all at once.

Like daxy said I'd start over, there's a lot of extra content (even before NEXT) and they did quite a good job of easing you in when starting from scratch.

Played this at the studio with the lead art team last week and had a blast, looking damn forward to jumping back in. Haven't played since Foundation eighteen months ago.

I'd definitely recommend starting over. The new start of the game (since Atlas was released) eases you into the different systems in a much better way, and apparently that has been improved yet again in Next.

This happened to my home planet after the Atlas Rises update - it was a beautiful, bountiful world of lush grass, majestic topography and passive wildlife. When I came back it was an acid-scorched, 300-degree hell-scape swept by radioactive storms and and toxic gas.

I could totally go for a few hours of this to distract me from this British Summer at the moment. I doubt it's even getting a midnight release is it? Guess I'll jump in sometime tomorrow.
