Was about to buy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe from Japan spending about 37 euro for 4000 yen... Then I remembered I had a 10 euro discount for Amazon on another account (ironically, it expires tomorrow), and the german version is 42 euro on Amazon.it. Brought the price down to 32 euro, only 6 euro more than JP but it's physical and contains all languages - I can always print myself another cover but why bother.

BLESS EUROPEAN UNION

Edit: okay I'm actually dumb. I spent less than I would've spent in Japan because it's 4500 and not 3500. Yaaasssss Amazon ❤️

I decided to pick up Slime-San while it's still on sale.

Oh man, I was definitely sleeping on this one. The game is phenomenal so far.

So Heroki is actually really good? It looks really generic but I've been advocating for 20XX and Ghost 1.0 so I know better.

Also, has ANYONE played Starship Avenger Operation?! I'm really curious about it, but my expectations are still pretty low.
I really like Heroki. Well worth the $7 I preordered it for.

Reminds me of one of those bargain-bin gems from the Wii era, that was met with little fanfare, but is a totally competent and fun game.

Do we have a list of original indie games released first on the Switch?

There are so many games releasing every week on the Switch, it would be nice to know if they are old games ported from PC or mobile or if they are fresh new games made for the Switch.

The core gameplay of Rogue Aces is very solid and fun. Have a feeling after an hour or so of play that it's all going to get a bit repetitive though. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Ready your trunk, it's time for an adventure!

Elephants are a mighty protectors of the world, born from the stars once per millennium. This is the age of Elephant Yono. But Yono is still so very young and in a kingdom inhabited by feudal Humans, undead Bonewights and robotic Mekani, it's not easy to keep one's trunk out of trouble.

Yono and the Celestial Elephants is a grand adventure, featuring carefully designed puzzles, treasure hunts, a sprinkling combat and a world full of people. Play as a young elephant tasked to save a world he's never seen before, and explore the rich history of a kingdom where humans, zombies and robots live side by side.

Features
  • Use your elephant trunk to solve puzzles and find secrets. Load it up with air, water and other things for different effects.
  • Visit 4 towns full of people, shops and side-quests.
  • Solve 3 deep dungeons of puzzles, monsters and finally a scary boss.
  • Explore forests and caves to find treasures and upgrades.
  • Discuss ascetic virtue ethics with the undead, existentialism and freedom of will with the robots, and political philosophy and the roots of power and authority with the humans.
  • Piece together ancient texts to uncover the history of the world, the development of human kind and the influence of past Elephants.

I would have been all over Korg Gadget if they had implemented a way to export the music you create. Recording via the headphone socket is not sufficient.

At the very least, there should be a way to render a wav or mp3. I can think of a few easy ways they could have made it possible to get the file off of the Switch.

one would be doing the exact thing they did for their 3DS applications already :)

I found 5 hours was all the enjoyment I could get from it, and that was pushing it. Uninstalled it as I know I will never want to touch it again . Hopefully you get more from it.

That or the 20000PD one is what I wanted my four some weird reason they are not available in the Netherlands :(

So I'm hoping somebody has good experience with a different type of powerbank that would be available here
Yup i had the exact same problem here in Portugal. They didn't ship to my country in either of the other countries amazons.
But i went to uk ebay and there Anker would ship to my country. Weird but you could try to search on ebay instead.

Really glad I've been following this thread. I'd have missed Pato Box otherwise, which as it turns out is another ace indie game that's very fun (nice spin on the Punch Out formula). With that in mind, I'm also in the mood for a Rhythm action game for the Switch, any suggestions as to which I should go for? (I dread to think if DJ Max Respect ever makes it over to the Switch, I'd never play another game on it ever again!)

What do you love about Yoku? I remember seeing mixed reviews at the time it came out. I think I missed the review on your site though.

I reviewed it a little late--early this month--these were my thoughts:
http://www.superphillipcentral.com/2018/07/yokus-island-express-ps4-nsw-xb1-pc.html

...Yoku's Island Express is overall a highly endearing and pleasant pinball game mixed with Metroidvania sensibilities. The story will last about five hours for most players, but the amount of extra content and the way the island is so much fun to explore--backtracking notwithstanding--made me want to continue long after I reached the credits and even long after I acquired the Platinum on my PlayStation 4 build of the game. The pinball meets Metroidvania mishmash of concepts put on display in Yoku's Island Express is a successful experiment, and it's put Villa Gorilla on my list of developers that I can't wait to see what they cook up next.

What did they do on the 3DS?
well it was just KORG M01D but that one let you export the midi files which is really nice if you have other software on a computer. And some (all?) of the others let you share files locally with other users using the tool.

none of them offered mp3 export or anything of the like, it was always done with live recording it from the headphone jack.

Even that sucks. I guess they just don't want people using this to create music at high quality and not buying their expensive synths.

You're absolutely right, of course. Please see my post just above yours (I probably posted just as you were writing yours). I just had gotten Yoku and Yono confused. Sorry about that.

Pirateluigi what did you like about Yono? Would you recommend it?

It's the charm more than anything. You can dress Yono up in lots of adorable outfits, the characters you meet are pretty interesting, and it's fun to bash into things.
There's also a shockingly deep lore, that's more ambitious than good, but worth digging into.
It's just a really charming game throughout, and that'll get you pretty far in my book. Just don't go in expecting much challenge.

It sounds very appealing, that KS for the info. Are the combat/puzzles completely mindless?

Just an FYI re: Hand of Fate 2:

There is a known bug in the Switch version where sometimes trying to choose your companion manually for a challenge softlocks the game. This only happens under certain conditions but it happened to me.

The devs already submitted the patch with the fix a few days ago so it's just waiting to be approved and pushed. In the meantime you can easily avoid it just by letting the game pick for you or picking the companion before doing anything else - just don't return to the companion select screen for that challenge after.

If you do softlock you won't lose any progress from restarting the app.

Even that sucks. I guess they just don't want people using this to create music at high quality and not buying their expensive synths.
Yeah, I don't really understand KORG's Nintendo releases.

I use KORG Gadget on iPad every day, it's awesome. You can export .wav and .mp3 and you can publish directly to soundcloud and dropbox.

I just bought the season pass for Bomber Crew. Someone should make an OT. The game is really good. I've been playing for a while on my current save but I'm only on mission set 3 out of 10 in the campaign. Gotta grind for them parts and xp's. I'm still trying to maximize my chances of reviving a crew member multiple times during a mission. The gunners take some licks. I blind bought the season pass because I liked the game and I was scrolling through the new weapons when I saw the missiles. Hell yes. They're expensive though. It's not really a grind since the grind is just playing the missions. Which is fun.

Good to know. I bought it yesterday but I'll wait for a patch to start it up.

I've played the first couple missions of Mugsters and so far I'm enjoying it. I've never played Blast Corps despite owning a 64 back in the day so I can't compare it. It's more of a puzzle game than it lead on from the videos leading up to it. I really dig the look of it and it runs well enough, My only gripe is the vehicles are tough to handle but I actually think that's a design choice to make the game tougher.

I also picked up Bomber Crew since it was on sale and used $5 of my gold points, looking forward to trying that later.

There is so much good stuff on the system right now. I'm 20 hours into Hollow Knight which IMHO might be the greatest MetroidVania I've ever played. I still want to pick up the DLC for Sonic Mania. Also, despite not being into it originally, I'm planning on giving Enter the Gungeon another chance to see if the new update fits my play style,

I have been having a blast with Hand of Fate 2. It has been the perfect balance against (and compliment to) my time with Octopath Traveler due to its unorthodox, but still classic, approach. The narration and pacing are fantastic, the combat is satisfying enough, and there's just enough chance and stacking progression to make it seem perfectly balanced IMO. Things can always take a turn for better or for worse at any moment, but re-running quest lines has always been very rewarding. I can see myself sinking a ton of time into this, and it's so worth the $30 buying price.

I'm also really into esoteric stuff and have harbored a fascination for tarot decks and their interpretation for years, so it's right up my alley; Just the right amount of spoop and "darkness."

I totally agree. I also got really interested in tarot cards thanks to stuff like Ultima IV and Persona.

Yeah, everything about the game is fantastic. And yet I still see plenty of ways it could be even deeper, richer, better for Hand of Fate 3. I really hope they will keep building on this series, adding more mechanics and more complex storytelling/adventuring. What's here is already immensley satisfying.

It's some how very fresh while offering an experience that feels very true to the tabletop RPG.

The narrator VA is up there with Wayne June in Darkest Dungeon and the music is fantasic. I love the atmosphere.

I've never played Darkest Dungeon but if it's along the same neo-classic lines as HoF I'll probably check it out.

Oh yeah, the actual gameplay is pretty different but the narrator is like if H.P. Lovecraft was your DM

Darkest Dungeon is an amazing game. I might triple dip just to have it on Switch, although if you have an iPad you can get it for $5 and it controls better with a touchscreen.

Good to know. I bought it yesterday but I'll wait for a patch to start it up.

Oh, you could dive in now. It really has no effect on your first few hours of play. You already bougt it, you should dig in.

Lovers of RPGs and board games: Hand of Fate 2 is the game you never knew you wanted.

HoF2 is that good?
I remember enjoying the 1st on XboxOne's GWG but it was a deck cards game iirc? My memory is fuzzy on that one, but I know I liked what I had played (not much, admittedly)
On the sequel's page on eShop I get an action-brawler vibe mixed in the strategy part? Or how does that work?

How's the arcade version of City Connection?

100x better. It's truly a great golden-age highscore game, on par (and kinda a weird mix of) Bomb Jack and Amidar. So not DK/Pac-Man tier but definitely part of the classics. Simple yet very rewarding and you can sooooo many hidden moves using the awesome jump/gravity/inertia physics... I thought about making a video about such moves but I'm sure it's already been done by a much better player (I'm decent, nothing great).

The real-time combat was in the first game but here it has been polished up and there's more combat styles and far more enemy types. Oh, and now you can actually choose between being a man or woman and your appearance options, with new gear showing up on your character model.

It's not a traditional card game in that you aren't playing cards from your hand, but cards you do get in your "hand" basically represent your inventory, blessings and curses. A new mechanic is Flame, which is a kind of XP earned from both combat and non-combat encounters, and this acts as a sort of leveling mechanic as some equipment and quest options require a minimum number of Flame to use.

Each challenge is a narrative quest, and the deck that makes up the challenge includes main quest, sidequest and encounter cards as well as equipment, items, etc. As you complete challenges and encounters while meeting specific criteria you unlock new cards that can be placed in future decks. The new cards can be any of the type of cards that make up a deck and completing the sub quests unlocks the next card in the subquest line.

Encounters generally give you choices and most choices involve a minigame of some sort. So far the minigames I've encountered have been far more varied than in HoF1. The shell game and the real-time combat minigames return from HoF1, but now there's also dice rolls like in a tabletop RPG, spinning card wheels and a weird thing that looks like an upside metronome that requires you to stop the rod on a moving target. I'm still early so there might be even more.

Also, in addition to combat just feeling better and having companions fight with you, the criteria of combat is more varied. Sometime you just need to kill everything like in HoF1, but you may also have to kill certain enemies within a time limit or protect NPCs from being killed, etc.

As i continue to play the game keeps opening up new mechanics.

The cards mostly come in as a way to randomize the "floor" the player will navigate.

There's a great deal more they've added to the game that really puts it on a whole level above the first. In many ways the game is just as challenging as the first but it does a much better job of giving the player options and control. Replaying challenges is also much more rewarding as there's now usually a more demanding & optional secondary objective for each challenge to unlock even more cards. It definetly feels like a full sequel and not just more of the same.

And yet I can see how there's plenty more that could be done to make HoF3 even better.

Graphically it looks really good for a Switch game. Clearly not the PS4 version but I expected it to get downgraded more.

On a technical level I'm actually really impressed with how well it runs. Performance on Switch outside of resolution is maybe even a bit better than HoF1 on PS4. The loadtimes for entering combat could be a bit better but they aren't terrible. For some reasons the framerate has some bad drops and stutters on those load screens but outside of some drops when the cards are flying around the dealer I haven't had any complaints. There's definitely nothing in the performance that effects gameplay.

I think this is a game most people will like, tbh, if they give it a shot. It guides you in easy before stepping up the challenges.
