GameXplain did a deep dive into Crash 1 and they came to the same conclusion a lot of people have had since Crash Trilogy has come out. Crash 1 isn't that good. It was certainly impressive graphically, but the gameplay and course design just wasn't there until Crash 2. Using Mario Maker, they recreate the courses from Crash in a side view and it really helps explain why Crash 1 can feel so meh.

Thanks for the thread :) I actually rather enjoy Crash 2 & 3 but the first game is remarkably unremarkable. My largest issue was with the levels simply repeating themselves without any significant evolution.

My fiancee is actually playing N Sane Trilogy on Switch right now and she skipped Crash 1 after the second boss. Unlike the other games, she simply stopped having fun.

I got 100% in the original versions of all three recently and I'd say 1 was my second favorite after 2. 1's controls aren't as nice as the analog in Crash 2 and 3, but the music and vibe is the best. I really like the jungle, river and temple environments. I also ended up liking the difficulty of having to run the whole level without dying once to get the box gems. Even though I cursed it at first. Fumbling in the Dark was the hardest level for me to get the box gem. Nice sense of vindication when I finally did it.

Warped was my least favorite because of the non-platforming stages. They're fiiiine, but some dragged on too much. I really hated getting the box gem in that jet ski level with the hidden pirate ship area. Those levels can be fun when you're going fast, but when you have to slow down and search for boxes constantly...ehh.

Good to know, I am currently playing it on the Switch aswell but having a bad time with the first game, I guess I should just skip the first one and jump straight into the second game.
