I use the amFilm tempered glass protector. No bubbles, fairly easy to install, looks good. They are pretty scratch resistance but I'm bad about scratching phones and really picky about any little blemish I think I see so I always use one, plus these screens cost a lot to replace.

Does that leave a residue when removed?

Jesus, this phone is gorgeous, and the FaceID is slower in general to unlock, however, using it to input passwords and stuff and notifications while on a wireless stand charger are soooo worth the trade off.

This is an iOS 11 thing but why the fuck does everything play shuffled? This has been going on for weeks.

EDit: found controls in the dumb ass "drawer" that are separate from the shuffle in default album view. Whoever designed the way that works is a complete idiot.

I use the same, and had one on my Nintendo Switch. They give you a tray to make the install pretty much fool proof. Good product. Never removed one so I am not sure if it leaves a residue.

Mine was pretty instantaneous if not actually instantaneous. I know there's a delay with phone call ringing but with this alarm since I was staring at the phone as it was starting to go off maybe it caught it?

Interesting. I assumed that's how it's supposed to work, where the phone checks if it's actively being used and lowers the volume before playing any super loud alert/alarm sounds. Mine only seems to perform that "attention aware" check after the fact though, which makes for a weird user experience. I'll have to test it some more.

Snapchat "chat" removes the notch... looks gorgeous. The rest of the time it doesn't.

So, I bought a Luvvitt screen protector and it's terrible - full of bubbles and such. Does anyone have screen protector recommendations? Or do I need one in the first place? It's my first iphone in a long while and I've heard the screen is pretty scratch resistant these days.

I have used the cheapest of the cheapest tempered glass protectors as well as way expensive ones. They all work the same. I've never had a single bubble that wasn't my fault.

That being said, I recommend TechArmor or amFilm. Get whatever's cheaper. amFilm comes with a little sizing tool that is actually pretty useful in getting it lined up right

I would agree with you ordinarily, and I did think I messed it up somehow at first. But then I looked at the 22 reviews that popped up after I bought it and 20 of them had the exact issues I was having.

Yeah, I'm convinced that FaceID is superior to TouchID in most scenarios. Other than unlocking the phone, FaceID is much faster in general (and more seamless) when authentication is required. (There are times when it feels just as fast as TouchID for unlocking though.) With TouchID, the user is prompted to authenticate, which requires the user to react to the prompt and move their finger to the sensor. With FaceID, there is no disruption, allowing authentication to begin immediately without any time wasted on user reaction. In some cases, the end user doesn't even realize an authentication took place. It's invisible to the user. This technology will continue to improve over time, so I imagine FaceID generation 2 will resolve almost all of the current issues.

Do you guys seriously like Face ID?

After having the phone for a day, I've found it to be one of the most frustrating parts of the experience. It seems nowhere near as quick or intuitive as the back-of-the-phone fingerprint scanner that exists on my old 6P.

FaceID has been amazing for me. So much better than TouchID, love never having to worry about how moist my fingers are or bother wiping off the home button. I rarely even think about it now, its like not having a passcode at all

Definitely.

The initial unlock into the phone may be ever so slightly slower than TouchID, but the FaceID integration with apps, passwords, Apple Pay is so much smoother and faster. It more than makes up for it.

today at lunch the line to check out was backed up because 2 different people were awkwardly struggling with the new way to do Apple Pay on their iPhone X. It was hard to watch (especially because this was on the Apple campus)

I bought a wireless charger from the Apple Store yesterday and used Apple Pay for the first time. I was a bit startled by the Face ID authentication that preceded the payment. Definitely a welcome safety... I don't remember Android Pay ever requiring authentication beyond the lock screen.

I guess I'm just gonna have to get used to Face ID. I miss fingerprint scanners.

Used applepay with face today, gloriously fast.

Also, updating to get this cold weather fix! Hope it works! Would LOVE to know the technology behind this..

I prefer being able to decide when the phone should be authenticating me and not the other way around. I suppose that makes me old fashioned at this point, though.

Sounds like as a 7+ user I might be better served going with the 8+? Keep my same case, keep the bigger phone, skip some of the issues and wait time.

Because one of the reasons I switched to Android back in the day was the keyboard was cramped. I know times have changed, but the keyboard width now is pretty on point for me.

Ideal setting would be to have a button on the back or side for touch id and face id working together.

Apple Pay with Face ID requires pretty much no thought. Unless you've just never tried it before and don't realise you need to use the power button I don't get how it can be harder.

Unless you're on the IUP or really want wireless charging, it would be one of the most pointless upgrades ever. I did it thinking it would at least give me better battery life or gaming performance, but it doesn't do either (at least, not to any discernible amount).

IUP. I could also wait it out another year and sell my iPhone.

My wife just got the text that my phone is available for pick up tonight at best buy. I've got a question for everyone, I'm currently on an iPhone 7 plus on the iOS 11.2 beta. What would be my best course to do the transfer to the iPhone X? Can I setup the phone new and download the beta and then do the transfer from my 7?

messages don't back up to icloud separately yet, but should come across if you restore from a backup of the phone.

If you do that 'put new phone near old phone' thing I would have assumed it would have effectively been a restore from a backup, just more streamlined

I did that - touch phones together - to migrate from my iphone 6S. And I have imessages and SMSs from before Nov 3rd..
That's odd..., mine didn't transfer.

On another subject, how do you prevent CarPlay from fucking up the battery, seeing how you have to plug in?

I wish you could disable charging at will, and keep data transfer on when plugged into something.

I got the Caudube Lucid Clear case. It feels like a naked iPhone but that also means it is pretty slippery. I hate the fact their is a logo on the side, you already have my money, why have that logo there?

Macrumors says there are some concerns about the case scratching the sides when you try to take it off. Being real careful right now.

Why, it's basically charging it unnecessarily, which is how I messed up my iPhone 6's battery.
On the way to work for 30 min, and another 30 min back towards home, I don't really use it much at work, so it will never drop below 80% before charging again.
My iPhone 6 is so fucked up, it takes a long time to drop from 100% to 90%, then drops abruptly until 60%, then slow until 40%, and after that it tanks straight to 15% lol.

What I've noticed about FaceID is that the App Store no longer asks for my password after a certain amount of time. With Touch ID, it kept asking for my password so much that I thought to myself, "Whats the elfin point?!"

It still asks if I turn off my phone. But, its so rare now that I love it.

There's no such thing as overcharging these batteries

Nah, not really. When it is "plugged in" it isn't using battery power it is using the AC from the wall and also is smart enough not to feed the current to the battery when at 100%. It's a smart phone, it's smart enough to control the juice getting into it, most modern tech is.

As for your 6, ALL phone batteries have finite life, they are not designed to last forever. Any lithium-ion battery does lose significant storage over time and starts to act up. Generally, you can expect get 400 "charge cycles" in your phone before the battery starts acting up. You complete one charge cycle when you've used (discharged) an amount that equals 100% of your battery's capacity — but not necessarily all from one charge. For instance, you might use 75% of your battery's capacity one day, then recharge it fully overnight. If you use 25% the next day, you will have discharged a total of 100%, and the two days will add up to one charge cycle. It could take several days to complete a cycle.

In other words, your 6 battery has likely gone though so many cycles that is is no longer optimal. If you use your phone every day, you can generally expect 1.5 years of full lithium ion service before the battery starts to degrade. The 6 came out in 2014 which means if you got it at launch or even the following year, you're reaching the charge cycle max - You can replace the battery or get a new phone.

If it makes anyone feel better, the 6S+ models and above have had phenomenal battery life throughout the two years I owned the product. Only the 6 had the really bad battery issues from experience.

After 2 years of heavy, regular usage every day, my battery still retained 85% of the original charge according to coconutbattery.

The iPhone X has been treating me very well as of late, with battery as good as when I owned my 6S+. I would think that it would get more efficient as we go through iOS updates.

It's interesting that they can fix that responsive issue with a software update. I wonder why it would do that in the first place? Glad to see that they fixed it so quickly though.
