My prepping for the season. Haven't been this excited for NBA season opening in a long, long time. Maybe since VC era (which crashed and burned multiple times after 2000-01 playoffs). Hoping for the best for my Raps. Malachi Richardson on the top left and Van Vleet on the right.
Can you imagine if Spurs and Demar play the Lakers in the first round and Spurs get swept.
Demar was out of the conference of Lebron for 2 weeks out of his entire career.

Two fucking weeks.

Lmao he's traded by the deadline and even if he sticks around for one season you'll get bounced in the 2nd round

I think we'll still see a few trades even before the season starts — we need to get rid of Ibaka somehow.

What do you think Mitchell's stats will be next year? I have a feeling he'll score 23-25 pts a game on 47%-50% FG
Less FG%, and on the upper end of your points prediction, possibly a bit more. If the Jazz had added some kind of scorer like Tyreke Evans his attempts would go down and his points might not change much, it would just be a higher efficiency. But it's basically the same team. He'll need to shoot a lot again, just a small FG% boost would really bring up the points. He also might learn how to draw contact better which could help.

I want to see how his defending improves. He has all the tools to be great on that end. He was touted as a defensive guy coming out of college and then he became a great scorer out of nowhere.

I'll be a homer and say 26/4.2/4.6 on 45/36/83, he really felt like an automatic 25 the ladder half of the season, he was trying to make up for his awful stats the first 10 games all season.

I don't think ppg is an important metric to evaluate Donovan by this year. Getting to at least 56-57% TS (from 54 last year) is.

Raps signing Ibaka to that huge contract was bizarre, he wasn't even that great that first season. You'd think Masai of all people would know his age situation, too.

I thought I saw some tweet saying trading melo would cost less than trying to stretch him?

maybe they can trade schroder anyway ha

thats the thing about the NBA there is always a worse contract to trade for. IE Joakim Noah.

All things considered OKC did about the best they could hope for.

OKC got 2 live basketball assets and saved 70M for a pick and an expiring contract. they got a serviceable deal that makes them margainly better.

most NBA fans now are too concerned with owners wallets and value for money then pure basketball value.

We can best utah for sure. Rockets probably too. Rockets are worse this year and thunder are quite better.

It'll be close but it's not clear cut.

Thunder didn't really get better. Adam's will probably improve his game and hopefully get better. Roberson will hopefully have healed fully but I think a Patellar rupture is a tad serious, he's also a offensive blackhole. In the playoffs Paul George missed a shit load of fucking shots so it'll have to be seen if he chokes again, idk.

Meanwhile the Rockets lost two key contributers, but CP3 and Harden are still very good players. You have an elite playmaker on the floor at all times. They 4-1'd the team that 4-1'd you guys lol.

And Utah, top defensive team, Mitchell will go even further beyond next season, Gobert is better than Adams and only a year older, Rubio is expanding his game and becoming better, etc.

First impressions of 2k for the real ones: https://www.gameinformer.com/preview/2018/07/21/eight-exciting-changes-coming-to-nba-2k19s-gameplay

New Takeover System
One of the more noticeable changes coming to NBA 2K19 is a new game system that celebrates the idea that any NBA player can take over a game at any time. Think of this Takeover concept as a more nuanced take on the "On Fire" system from the arcade classic NBA Jam.

The way Takeover works is players of each archetype have unique ways to exert their dominance during a game. For instance, playmakers take over by setting up teammates for easy buckets, rim protectors change the trajectory of a game by locking down the paint, etc. As the player exercises his will against the opponent using his specialties, he builds up a takeover meter. Once activated, you will see an on fire badge underneath the player on the court, which indicates the player has unlocked a new tier of special animations and badges that align with their archetype. For instance, playmakers like Rajon Rondo won't suddenly be raining down threes while on fire NBA Jam style. Instead, they may get Dimer and Ankle Breaker boosts.

Holding the left bumper button, you can check where all your players on the court are at in terms of activating their Takeover. Multiple players on the same team can activate Takeovers at the same time, as well, making for some intriguing combinations. But beware, if your players struggle they can also develop cold streaks. These diminish gradually over time, but you can try to accelerate coming out of their funk by calling a timeout.

"I like it, it's a little meta game to think about how you play with players," Wang says.

Thank god they're working on clipping!:

Dramatically Reduced Clipping
The switch to the new motion system in NBA 2K18 brought some unexpected problems. Immersion was often shattered due to excessive clipping where limbs, heads, and basketballs morphed through players' bodies. Making it worse, these rough animations weren't just limited to the high-traffic areas; we saw them in one-on-one situations on the perimeter as well.

"It was embarrassing," Wang admits. "There was a bug that we didn't find until very, very late with the collision detection. That's another thing that we're working on right now. We're spending a lot of time trying to make sure you just can't go through players and stopping them when you try to run into guys."

I only played four or five games of NBA 2K19, so I'm reporting off a small sample size, but during each game, I paused and watched instant replays when bodies clashed in the paint and on the perimeter to see if the collisions were still compromised, and all the animations looked clean. Arms reacted naturally to contact and bodies slammed into each other instead of clipping through. Wang says Visual Concepts is continuing to hone this in the lead-up to launch to minimize clipping as much as possible.

"It's hard to make it foolproof because it's a game and if we made it so every time a limb got hit the ball would knock loose it would be chaos," Wang says. "But you definitely won't see the major bodies going inside other bodies and heads.

Shot meter on ever layup and shot:

Shot Meter Improvements
One of the biggest annoyances in NBA 2K18 was the lack of a shot meter on lay-ups. Good players commonly missed wide-open lay-ups, and players had no idea of what they were doing wrong. Visual Concepts heard our complaints and is including a shot meter on all lay-ups in NBA 2K19. Each lay-up animation requires different timing, so you're going to need to practice a bit to familiarize yourself with the nuance of the system.

Speaking of meters, many users preferred the shot meter from NBA 2K17 to last year's version, so Visual Concepts is including options for both in NBA 2K19. You can choose a meter that goes by the players' hands, the players' feet, turn on both, or turn them off altogether. In addition, you can customize the color of the shot meter. The options I saw included team colors, white, and magenta.

The shot feedback system needed some revision coming out of NBA 2K18 – far too many open looks were marked as heavily contested last year, diminishing the likelihood of making the bucket. Based on my limited time on the sticks, the shot feedback system in NBA 2K19 seems much more in line with what I was actually seeing on the court. When I ample space to shoot coming off a pick and roll but the late-arriving defender still got a hand up, these were now correctly classified as lightly contested attempts

Looks like they're going to OP the fire icon thingy. But I like it since it gives non go to players a chance I think.

I'm already used to the layup timing in 2k18 but a meter would also be nice though we'll be watching the meters again instead of the animation.

Overall, I'm excited, I'm just a play now and MyGM player so whatever issues that might occur with VC points for MyPLAYER and other stuff won't bother me.

And oh, hopefully they stop the scripted MyGM thing, the first season was annoying. The CPU forcefully traded Lauri for Beasley. Dafuq.

2K is a no go until they kill this fucking VC nonsense they did in 2k18. I'll happily wait until I hear good things from the community.

Don't like any of what I read there. Aside from the clipping (hopefully that includes the ball not clipping through bodyparts too) it's all tweaks for myplayer garbage. I know that's where the money is, but they're just doubling down on it now.

Reading those 2k change notes just makes me angry all over again, rather than making me feel like giving them another chance. That fucking vanishing shot-meter on layups bullshit is incomprehensible.

I do really hope animation improves because graphically and animation wise the game hasn't had major upgrades since this Gen started

Even on 4k the visuals are really not super impressive the basketball isn't even well modeled or detailed

NBA live 18 despite whatever flaws it may have and I don't know all of them graphically and animation wise it is a generation ahead of 2k18 unfortunately and it's quite disappointing to see 2k rest on their laurels while their sales are so well above live

I don't want to wait until ps5 for a 2k graphics upgrade but we'll probably have to

For me I don't buy NBA games other than for technology gameplay rosters and exhibition games so anything else like vc cash bullshit or myplayer updates I have zero interest in

The thunder RETAINED their elite units. Rockets lost one in Ariza and a good player in Mbab.

The thunder now have a MUCH better backup PG and have a true backup center in Noel.

Thunders bench will be drastically better and PG Russ and Adams can now rest.

Andre is questionableand we will have to see if he can still play his defense game or as good.

And we lost Melo. Who is great but not for us.

Thunder have the ability to be a much better team. Rockets and Utah will be the same. Rockets maybe a little less

Rockets will most likely keep their 3 best players. And they would've beaten you guys easily last yearn.

Noel and Schroder are unproven. Maybe they'll work maybe not. But Mitchell being a ROTY candidate will improve.

Saying you guys have a better chance makes sense. But I don't think you guys will beat Utah "easily" unless Gobert is injured.

I agree as the rosters are constructed right now the Thunder will be better and the Rockets will be worse than last year. But even so, I think you're underestimating how big of a gap there was between the two teams last year. The Rockets were 1 game from the championship. The Thunder lost in the first round. Houston is still clearly better. And I still believe Daryl Morey is going to make another move before the trade deadline to try and replace what he had in Ariza.

This is the first time I've ever heard someone say Live was better graphically and animation wise. Is that really the consensus? Because 2k looked and felt way better to me (though I honestly didn't play Live all that much... who has time for two sim bball games?)

As far as the shot meter goes, did anyone like 2k18's one? It actually got a lot easier making baskets just turning it off completely.

I wish they had an option to just play offline. Then I wouldn't have to worry about VC or worse, the freaking disconnects that wipe out your game. It's also super annoying to have to be on the internet to play it on the Switch.
