level 17-19 seems to take me forever to grind smh too slow for my liking
Go to Snowstill. Those squirrels are easy to kill.

It's either savescum Steal or grind money
You don't need to grind money if you don't buy slightly better gear all the time. At some point you get thousands of gold just wandering from screen to screen. I have half a million and just need endgame gear now which are found in optional dungeons.

This is what happens when life long Sony fanboys get their dirty hands on the Nintendo Switch.

In the Equipment menu I wanna remove Hat/Armor whatever and press all the buttons on the Dpad. Up, down, left, right... Nothing is working. Me: "This is stupid!"

Finally a banter scene, the game is telling me press the Dpad again. Nothing works. Me:" I wanna see this! Please don't do this to me!" Desperatly I look down on the controller and see the the Minus/Select button. Me:"OH!"

So before doing the post game dungeon, should I really level up the members I don't use? I know someone said you should but can I survive without them? I don't know if I have the willpower to grind for characters that are level 20.

Yes, and even if you do you will probably get brutally murdered if you're going in blind. It's that kind of challenge.

So what's everyone's opinion on the post game

final dungeon/boss that ties everything together

Since everyone was freaking out about it before release

I finished it last night and recorded the entire final dungeon->final boss. (it's over an hour long)

There's a massive text lore dump (I made an imgur album of it in the video description) after rebeating the 8 bosses in their shadow form. There are direct connections between named characters in some of the stories, but ultimately it's not a massive reveal or "aha! it all makes sense now" moment. It's more of a minor epilogue to all 8 stories.

I liked splitting into two parties for the final boss and both of the boss phases. I was a tad overpowered though because I was abusing Alfyn's party BP recovery and Tressa's Runelord shenanigans. I'm pretty sure I did most, if not all of the side quests so I had most of the best gear available.

Honestly once you get Sidestep and one of the hidden jobs which powers that ability up you can kill any physical based boss without getting hit. It's pretty OP.

please don't make me look up what powers sidestep I already feel bad enough being 30-40 levels from getting to those hidden jobs spoiler tag me please

Oh my fucking God. I just realized that the travel banter prompt at the top of the screen is supposed to be the Start / Plus button and NOT the D-Pad.
Put a fucking circle around that shit! Ffs SE...

Couple things I noticed now that I'm almost through with chapter 2 of all the characters:

- Buffing/debuffing for once feels useful in an RPG.
- Tweaking subclasses is a lot of fun, and many different set-up's are possible.
- The character chapters get better from chapter 2 onwards. I like how the overarching evil for once is not present in an RPG. Works well enough.

I will have to look up some of the sidequests though, quite a few of them are not quite clear to me.

Anyone else got a similair set-up?

Cyrus/Cleric
Alfyn/Merchant
Therion/Dancer
Olberic/Hunter

One open question that remains: How exactly do cleric skills scale? Cyrus doesn't really heal well at all compared to Alfyn. Having Olberic dodge most attacks is really great btw. Therion is a buff/debuff beast and I made him very fast. Cyrus for AOE damage as well as Olberic. Alfyn can surely wield his axe, too. I still need to fully utilize his apothecary skills, too. Got a few nice tricks up my sleeve, but there are so many possibilities attached to it, it's unreal.

Looking forward to chapter 3!

Just started last night and picked Alfyn as my main. I just found Primrose and did the beginning of her story.
Helgenish is a fucking evil son of a bitch! Yusufa!
I'm really enjoying the combat system, art style, and character writing so far.

Finding out about Bewildering Grace and how it works I've found it impossible to bench Prim for any kind of open world grinding. The ability to x5 or even x100 (not had this) XP and JP, heck even x2 and x3 is good is too good for me to pass up!

the HELP Menu.
What's the best way to farm XP? 4/8 characters are level 45 and above but the rest are ~30 and I want to get them to 45 asap.

I'd say getting a bunch of JP is a better goal, since rounding out your passives and abilities is what truly gives your character's strength, but on both these points your best bet is late dungeons with multiple enemies per encounter, since more enemies will provide more rewards! try the last dungeons for your characters, I find that you find large bunches in most of them, like Tressa's. if you have your eye on the secret jobs, two of them come with passives that grant more experience and JP for every fight, and equipping your more experienced party member with one of the more powerful ones, along with a speedy merchant to give them the BP to finish an encounter quickly, you'll be thrashing encounters in no time!

stick near a save point and take a chance with a dancer if you want to work for a bigger payout, though if you're just shoring up your weaker party members, I'd wait until you have your ideal crew together before getting too grind happy, the power comes more from strategy anyway.

I made Olberic a dancer and I tried using with with full boost two times and it killed my whole party, lol.

Wait, it can kill you? I've seen it put me to 1 health and I've seen a weird message in Japanese that says something along the lines of the stench of death is in the air, but it's never outright killed me.

I finished all the eight Chapter 1, the two last ones (for me Olberic and Tressa) were very easy, because the suggested level of 12 didn't increase after the sixth Chapter 1. I immediately tried to do Therion Chapter 2 and... the boss destroyed me. But I didn't see it as a negative aspect, because it led me better understand how to improve my characters. So I reached other Chapter 2 cities, I stole a 3% object and a 8% object, I found two secondary jobs and I decided to keep my party of Cyrus - Ophelia - Therion ( + Apotechary secondary job) - Ha'anit at the moment And, when I was able ten minutes ago to defeat at the second attempt the boss in Ophelia's Chapter 2, I admit it was a very rewarding moment which only a similar JRPG can give. However maybe I'm appreciating this aspect because this week I had a lot of more free time than usual, and during the rest of the year I would have appreciated less the fact that I had to grind/improve the equipment for 2 hours.
About the battle system, I can confirm that I love it, it's so fun to play.

There's still the possibility of Dancer sub if you need.
But I guess you thought about ot already : p.

She seems also to be a great scholar too, so she's always in my party as Cyrus's student lol

I have no idea why but I get Final Fantasy 8 vibes from this game, something about the music perhaps? I don't know. It's just lovely.

Aaah, finished Cyrus and Therion's chapter 4s! I actually rather liked both of theirs.

I honestly really adore Cyrus, he's so genuine in just really loving learning and wanting to share all he knows with as many people as possible - and it doesn't come from a conceited, know-it-all stance, he just really wants everyone to know as much as they possibly can. It's very sweet, and I enjoyed his banters a lot. Poor guy talks ppl's ears off too much tho lol.
Anyway, I liked his last chapter quite a bit! But I think that's mostly cuz I enjoy the lost history and lore stuff in stories a ton. It also started piecing some stuff together a lot more from the other endings, so I think it was a good choice to do his near the end.

God, funny story about that boss fight tho lol. I went in with Therion (main), Cyrus, Tressa, and Olberic since those were the last two in line to get banter scenes, each of them with the secret jobs as their subclass. Which means I didn't have a healer, but I thought hey the rest of the bosses have been push overs and it'll probably be the same regardless especially since I have the advanced jobs and a ton of items. I'll be fine! Battle starts, I see the boss has like 30 gd guard points and knocks my entire party down to half HP with one gd hit. ON TOP of it only having weakness to physical attacks and my entire strategy most of the times w/ bosses is a shitton of scholar usage and runes. I was so gd screwed LOL. But somehow, some way, I didn't die and I actually beat the thing. I've said it before, but Tressa's sidestep is a damn godsend. My entire party was KO'd at one point with her only making it by cuz I had stacked a bunch of sidesteps on her. Finally whittled the boss down to a break, restored my party, and came back with a vengeance (well, barely) in the second half LOL. Definitely a fun fight on this one.

Saw a couple people here didn't care for his ending, and it got me soooo dang nervous going in that I wasn't gonna feel it at all. Which would be a huge shame since he's basically my favorite character and I want him to have a really solid ending. And as it was revealed that Heathcoat used to be a thief and went into service for Cordelia I was like, oh no, oh noooo please don't tell me Therion is gonna become a dang butler!! LMAO Cuz man I did not care for Cordelia like at all, felt whatever connection they were trying to forge between her and Therion was super awkward, and I really loved Therion as a thief and wanted to imagine him continuing on his meandering, thieving ways. Which is exactly what I got, so phew and yay!
Also want to say I really liked how they handled Darius and his final moments. I thought that was pretty powerful.
He was pretty easy as a boss, but I liked that they put dialogue over it. It was a good one to end/finish all the characters on.

It's hard to put them in a numbered list from best to worst, cuz a bunch of them are kinda tied? But I think favorite bunch of stories/endings are Therion, Alfyn, and Cyrus, then next bunch is Tressa, Olberic, and Primrose, and least favorites being Ophilia and H'annit. I don't think any of them were terrible, though; all were pretty enjoyable for the most part. And I really loved seeing the connections popping up towards the end. I'm excited to dive into the end game stuff!

Oh, also, I really liked how they handled the credits. I thought that was super cute and like a nice, personalized walk down memory lane.

Huh... of course it does.
I'm pretty sure my Cyrus currently as dancer can get it.
Or is it replaced by another skill and I didn't see ?
Why would it be the only modified skill ?

No, I was mistaken. I must've overlooked it at some point and assumed it was a character unique skill like Alfyn's potion brewing thing.

Ophilia works much better as a Dancer, Therion is also a better Merchant since his main job has a passive which doubles the loot you steal/collect, you're doing it wrong if Olberic is in your party and not using him as a boss killer.

It can definitely kill you. I forgot what it was but it was an explosion of some sort and it instantly wiped my whole party. I think it did their exact number of health but I'm not sure. Definitely at least in the thousands of damage if it's not instant death.

For people farming battle tested stuff from rank 10 npcs I think Olberic war/thief makes it the most easy. Just make sure to gear for a decent amount of elemental def but for me the 2 thief skills that give hp and sp gain make olberic self sufficient to last any duel until you can divine skill brand.

Sweet baby jesus I finally defeated the boss of Tressa's chapter 2.

Granted I didn't have much time this week, but with a bit of grinding with Ophelia and getting her to lvl 22, with Tressa at lvl 31, Olberic at lvl 30 and uh, Alfrin at lvl 27 I was finally able to beat Omar.

Empoison + Ophelia's healing + Olberic's Brand's Thunder did the trick.

Are all the 10 stars elderly people? It's been hilarious having Olberic wail on them for the two I've come across so far.

Alright, all chapter 4 done. Time to find the final secret shrine and then sidequests + finding the endgame. 70h+ clocked.
