How is Sony allowed to make loud consoles?

Another one of my noisy PS4 Pro rants. We all know the reports of noisy PS4 Pros, but noisiness has been a problem for Sony consoles since the original PS3. How is Sony designing them this bad? Surely at some point in testing they themselves noticed the issue? "Hmm, this thing gets awfully loud. Meh, let's just ship it." How can this happen?

I got excited with the news of the next No Man's Sky update and decided to download the game again. Just listen to this fucking thing:



Seriously considering tearing this shit console apart and throwing it in the rubbish. I cannot play like this. It drowns the game audio. What pisses me off is people saying theirs is "whisper quiet". Bitch what? I've had 2 PS3s and 3 PS4s and they are all more or less loud at a 26C room temperature. Now I'm stuck with the loudest console I've ever had. The cheap-ass one year warranty is over. I fucking hate these consoles.

My launch PS4 was fine until about 18 months after launch, i remember it first started getting bad during Witcher 3, where i switched to wearing headphones because it was hair-dryer loud. My PS4 pro has been good but its been less than 2 years so we'll see if it actually stays quiet the entire generation.

That sound just brings out all kinds of anxiety, I had the urge to punch my laptop when it hit warp 1.

What on earth? is their some kind of noise regulation you think the console is violating?

I understand that the sound might be frustrating, but it's just not a priority for Sony. Not only that, a multitude of factors effect your console noise level. The NMS update is probably running at a uncapped framerate. I'd suggest buying a Xbox one X if noise is such a bugbear for you.

You need to take better care of your consoles man. My PS4 isn't like that at all. Clean it and keep it in a better ventilated area.

It is terrible. Everyone laughs at the that PS3 and the VCR Xbox One but those designs allowed the system to breathe. Next gen I am just buying whichever console looks fatter and avoiding anything that just cares about looking slim and sexy.

Sounds like my fat PS3 did. After that I vowed I will only get energy efficient consoles that doesn't generate much heat, and thus, didn't buy a PS4 until PS4 Slim was released and I'm so pleased with it. Whisper quiet, won't hear it when I sit by the couch.

By "allowed" I meant why is there no pressure put on Sony to develop quieter consoles. Obviously they are allowed to sell hair dryer tier consoles as much as they want, but why do people keep buying them?

The OG PS3 is the loudest console I have ever seen. Mine still works, the original 60GB model, and it sounds like crazy even in the XMB.

Both the OG PS4 and the PS4 Pro I had have been really quiet, maybe sounding like at 0:29 in the video at tops.

My PS3 Slim, launch PS4 and launch Pro all sound alike. Pro can sometimes be a bit louder in 1st party games that are squeezing everything out of the APU.

It never bothered me though.

My launch base PS4 gets fairly loud during anything taxing like Uncharted 4 or Rocket League. In fact in GT Sport on the main menu you can hear the fans kick into gear when it's rendering the 3D stuff but when it's just showing the historical slides it starts winding down again. I can live with it, but I hope the PS5 is built better if I'm honest.

Mine makes that same exact noise. It went insane when I was playing God of War. I've just gotten used to the noise now

I'm tempted to bring out my launch 360 and do a comparison with my PS4 Pro but I fear their combined might will lead to noise complaints

How is a company allowed to make a substandard product? Answer: People keep buying it.

Substandard build quality but fantastic console. More people would rather be playing God of War than enjoying the silence.

My Ps4Pro is loud too but it has been crazy warm in the Netherlands for a while now. Room is about 26 degrees celcius during the day :-\

And as a side note: fuck that massive heatwave that is coming our way

This is pretty much how my PS4 sounded like. I sold it a month ago though and I'll never buy huge loud consoles again.

I don't care about graphics that much and at this point I'd rather have less power and smaller consoles too. For good graphics I have my PC which is also way quiter than my PS4 was.

Yeah my launch Pro is ridiculously noisy as well.

Wondering if I should buy one of the newer models and hope for a lucky break or ride out the gen with this loud POS which is only going to get louder for sure

Christ, that video. It sounds like it's about to set on fire! I always thought the Dreamcast was the king of loud consoles but I think my launch PS4 has overtaken it while I played God of War. I eventually started playing it with headphones on. Thing is SO loud. Sucks.

Loud consoles really need to be a thing from the past now. It would be more than annoying if the PS5 were to be loud, having to wait for a PS5 Slim again to fix it. They've done it with PS3 and PS4 but that's quite enough thank you.

My launch PS4 got so loud on some games I couldn't even make out dialogue.

So I bought a PS4 Pro and while it was fine at first it's not incredibly loud too. Don't really know what to do.

Remember back at the last place when everyone swore it was supposedly the most silent console ever made what happened? Did the one x finally wake people up? And realise how loud the pro is? I hope my spiderman pro gets the one with the good fan.
