Boost mode affects the frequencies of the APU. Name changes affect a ton of network services, multiple consoles, stuff that is obviously dependant on the username in a deeply convoluted way.

Yeah, basically the same in scope.

Why do people think a firmware update is going to be the thing that let's you change your name?
I'm no computer expert but I imagine that if it happened you'd just go to a website and change it there since that info isn't in your console it's somewhere out there online.

I've worked as a contractor, but no, let's just say, I don't get invited to the Xmas parties . . .

...though I DID get some sweet T-shirts and a nice dinner though :D
When you were hinting about future updates back in GAF, was that just for the PS4 Pro Downsampling option? Or is there anything else to look forward to in future updates?

I agree it should not be necessary, but:

1. As has been said in this thread, cloud storage isn't on your PS4 either, but they upgraded the amount for PS Plus users as part of (or at the same time as) a firmware update back then.
2. It could also be a feature to let users change their user names from their PS4 instead of having to go to a website.

Technically you are correct, but Sony has a history of coupling new PSN features with an interface on the console of the gen, coupling the network updates and firmware into one announced firmware update.

Also, depending on their implementation of name change, it could require updates on the OS level or the friends/community software.

So the EU registration already started and last few moments before it went down like the NA one or that it never went live?

Name change isn't coming until PS3 is no longer a part of the PlayStation Network. I'm convinced of that much.

1440p support please and thank you. Most games on Pro are just above 1440p anyway, so allowing us to scale to native resolution would be great.. also it would allow me to use my 1440p monitor without it's terrible 1080p scaling.

Given Sony's positions lately...I'd prepare myself if I were you. :(
No way is that acceptable. It's one thing to not be able to offer BC because of architecture. To deprive me of my digital purchases because of mistakes they made with the architecture or PSN infrastructure is them essentially making me pay for their mistakes. It's unacceptable, and if such a thing were to ever happen, they would lose me as a customer forever.

Every update lays the groundwork for feature upgrades, in my experience. Whether or not the next update will represent the implementation of major features, i definitely do not know nor claim to have the inside track :) I read all the update reports and the documentation as they drop, though I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Oh, so you really don't know anything then? :(

Wish that there was a way to update the DVR to capture HDR screenshots :(

Biggest disappointment because while the One X can do just that, the games that I actually want to take shots of are all on PS4

Well calling this 6.0 you definitely have to have something that is significant I would think. I would definitely like PSVR and Pro optimizations and improvements. They are relatively newer products.

I highly doubt refunds are coming ever. Sony does not sound like the type to just offer that. With a somewhat fickle audience it is just asking for a ton more customer service and loss of revenue for them at least. Exactly what they do not want.

Steam on the other hand has so many small and weird games that it almost becomes mandatory because of PC issues. Sony doesn't have custom PC and build issues with games. They rarely have huge performance problems.

There incentive to literally just give money back is not there. Customers in general have accepted this and they know they get at least one goodwill gesture.
