Brawlout has done "extremely well" on Switch with over 150,000 players to date.

Lizard Leap your foes into the air, bring them crashing back down to earth with a Buddy Slam and send them soaring with a Sonar 'Splosion! Yooka can even slurp up an incoming projectile to use it as his own!

Coming to PS4 August 21st (trailer features Yooka Laylee and their new stage)

Congrats. Smart timing and a thriving console

Sadly. I thought the game was mediocre to bad. Never bought it, but my little cousin enjoys it so Nobody lost out in the end.

Thats a lot of players.

The smash thirst must be real.
Though to be honest i was one of them, bought the game as a tideover till Smash, but dropped it quite fast since its just like smash if you take all the appealing and fun things out(no items, no recognisable characters, too much focus on the tournament scene of smash).

And an awful unlocking method that exploiting a glitch was more preferable

That's pretty good, 150k for a smash clone?

Good move on bringing it to PS4 because smash ultimate is gonna dominate on switch. They really need more recognizable characters though. Like shovel knight or the girl from blood stained.

Does not compute. The fact that you can't even name her says enough, let alone the fact that the game is a low budget indie Castlevania game that hasnt even come out yet. I doubt people would ever consider her "iconic" right now

WHAT THE FUCK

Back when they were saying "which indie guests do you want to see?" I was like "Yooka-Laylee would be perfect for this art style" AND THERE IT IS

in other news: camjo to start playing brawlout again

You think they can grab the rights to ratchet or cup head? They gotta go with indie devs that might let them. Bloodstained has a following , I was gonna say they get beck from mighty no 9 but everybody thinks that game sucks so get gunvolt.

Wow people are really hungry for Smash.

I didnt like Brawlout tbh. The indie guest characters were cool but otherwise...meh.

Too bad Rivals of Aether hasnt been ported yet.

man, if rivals of aether had released on switch sooner it wouldve sold gangbuster. One of the few smash clones I consider actually great

I bought brawlout but found it mediocre at best sadly, but congrats of the devs for pulling such a big number

Think it would've served the developers well to try and change gears to make it an indie smash-like all stars game rather than go with all those oc's. Also, the number would've been much bigger had they catered to the casual side more with items and chaotic stages with options to turn it off

Those are some big bumbers. These games are selling like hot cakes on Switch. Its probably at a point where close to a million games per week are sold trough the eshop.

Didn't get the switch version since it had stutters and they removed shadows. May get it for the PS4 though.

Has the Switch version been improved at all since release?

I played it on PC for a bit and I didnt find anything overly wrong with it gameplay wise, seemed like a decent platform fighter. Ended up returning it because I couldn't get it to run smoothly though.

Is it "bad because smash is better" or "just a bad game" bad?

I enjoyed PlayStation All Stars quite a bit, think this will be better than that?

I'd say so, given the context of how 'players' is used to describe the game's performance.

Being on the front page around Christmas must have done wonders for them, as (I think) the game was around 50-60K a few days after launch.
Cheers. Just seemed a weird word to use and I wasn't sure if local multilayer would affect the count.

It's fine (I guess?) mechanically. It's just really barebones and the only characters you'll want to play as are Drifter and Juan. They would have been better served to license a bunch of indie characters and maybe have a couple original of their own. Something like Runbow, perhaps.

Maybe, but I'm sure someone will come by to tell us how they don't count because they're not $100 million AAA blockbusters or whatever.

Closer to the topic, I was surprised to see this on the shelves at Target the other day, as I didn't recall hearing about a physical release. I guess that helped the sales.

Isn't the pc version still in a unfinished early access state? Bit of a bad form that they keep porting and adding to some versions of the game while others are still unfinished.

It's quite a shallow and unbalanced take on Smash with uninspired original characters - most of which have moves remarkably similar to characters from Smash. It's the indie cameos that are the most interesting part of the game but even they don't elevate the core fighting mechanics. PS All Stars is a better game and I wasn't a huge fan of that either.

There's value to it if you don't have any way of playing Smash but it's not a great replacement.

It's not bad but personally I enjoyed PlayStation All-Stars (before it turned into an unbalanced mess) a lot more, it was actually trying to do its own thing whereas Brawlout is basically just a straight Smash clone but with a faster pace and jankier physics. Apart from the gameplay, it also forces you to unlock 9 out of the 12 stages, and has a truly atrocious lootbox-based system for getting characters and cosmetics. It's all done with in-game currency rather than microtransactions thankfully, but that just makes you further question why they did it in the first place.

I also agree with all the comments saying it should have simply been a pure indie crossover fighter. I don't know how many failed experiments there need to be with this genre before devs finally figure out that no one but the hardest of the hardcore wants to play as generic original characters in a platform fighter.

Strange they didn't announce the date for the Xbox One version, too (which is still set for Summer 2018). Would be another perfect Switch - Xbox CrossPlay game.

That said, it looks awesome. Hopefully the online component works well.

IMO, bad because it's bad. I don't have some great affinity for Smash and I think I'd go so far as to say I enjoyed PS All Stars more. I just found Brawlout very barebones, stiff, frustrating, and unpolished.

odd enough, theres hasn't been a solid Smash Bros. Clone since...Never?

There really hasn't. Honestly the best one I've played is probably Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion XL, it was a mess and had godawful physics but at least they went all-in with its Smash clone-yness. Big crossover roster with 26 characters, Assist Trophies, Final Smashes, even a legit Subspace Emissary-esque adventure mode. I honestly wish they'd throw a decent budget at a sequel because it could actually be pretty great.

I think Slap City might be headed for the best cast overall since Ludosity has so many games to pull from and funny or memorable characters in them. With all these competing Smashs we'll never get a definitive roster going...

They need to make it easier to unlock the characters and levels.

I played for days, didnt unlock anything and abandoned the game with most of the content still locked away untouched.

It feels super bareboned especially because most of the content is locked away and takes forever to unlock.

They need more background music as well.

Its also just no where near as fun as Smash, not sure why. But they need to fix it fast because if they dont improve it by the time smash comes out, it will disappear into the abyss forever.

Its bas because it tries to emulate the "serious" side of smash, so no items, no stage hazards, and in general things that people would find in "competetive" smash.

It lacks the things that make people like Smash outside the competetive scene(iconic characters, fun stages, crazy items) while falling short on the things it does try to emulate.

Progression is glacial, and even then you dont actually unlock new characters, just skins.

That's fascinating, do you think the Smash games would thrive more if they enforced things like item and brought back things like tripping?
