Next Gen (PS5/Xbox Next) is approaching faster than many expected. I think/hope Bethesdas Starfiled and Elder Scrolls 6 announcements shows a change in how publishers and developers will treat the change from one gen into the next.

Last time (PS3/360 -> PS4/One) most studios didn't prepare for the early demand and many thought the trend in gaming would change to mobile/facebook/etc. We all know how that turned out and i'm certain this time around the publishers/developers will prepare for the transition period.

But what games do you think we'll be seeing in the first year of next gen from third party publishers/developers?

Last time around we got:

- Lords of the Fallen
- The Legend of Korra
- The Evil Within
- Alien Isolation
- Destiny
- Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
- The Binding of Isaac
- etc.

And the "usual" CoD, Battlefield, Fifa, Madden, Lego, Just Dance, etc. wave of games.

I'm getting kind exited and even if we've to wait until Q4. of 2020 i can't help but daydream a bit about the possibilites.

Lots of remaster, remakes, or multi-platform titles that also release on the older gen hardware.

That's what we got for the PS4/Xbox One launch, and with the current trends of everything having roughly the same (PC-like) architecture, there's no reason to expect a major shift in strategy for the next generation of hardware. It makes sense to not release exclusively for the low userbase of new-gen hardware exclusively, from a publisher perspective, when the efforts to release on old- and new-gen hardware is relatively manageable.

God of War 2
Horizon Zero Dawn sequel

Those are the two big launch titles for PS5 if I had to guess. Reason being I don't see either one releasing before the new consoles hit.

Would also like to see a revamped LittleBigPlanet. Assassin's Creed 2020 is a given, as are Battlefield and COD. Starfield might make that date but I doubt it.

All in 2020-2021:

Horizon 2 (launch window title)
BG&E2
Titanfall 3
Destiny 3
Cyberpunk (7-7-2020), betting on Xbone Scarlett to launch 1H 2020 so only next gen platform it'll be on then
Rocksteady's new game

I expect the opposite. There's gonna be less remasters and cross gen stuff into the 20s and more original stuff, especially if they launch live service games that will be maintained for years. Sure Sony might still release a Bloodborne Ultimate Edition 4K disc on PS5 but thanks to BC people will get access to all/most of their PS4 library right away, we'll probably see more "PS5 enhanced" patches rather than ports. This gen publishers took a wait and see approach because there was legit concern wether consoles were still a viable business. Next time they'll try to capture the market early, I think overall they'll be less risk averse considering how healthy the industry seems to be right now.

Crackdown 3. Dohohoho.

I imagine a lot of remasters and definitive editions of games that come our over the next year or two. Which is fine by me; gives time for the hardware to drop in price by the time enough exclusives I want come out.

I don't think you will see as many remasters as this gen with the Pro & One X around. When you hand out free patches to upgrade games to native 4k for stuff like Gears 4, there's really nothing to resell next gen. Now, obviously there are games that haven't been patched, remade, etc, so there will still be some.

But having those mid gen consoles is going to thin the herd for low effort remasters that mainly render at higher res when hundreds of games got them for free provided you got a Pro/One X. And it gets harder to discern resolution above ~1800p or so. At least to me.

I think Sony has had it with PolyDigi and will time the next GT to be a launch title on PS5.
