I am not getting myself too hyped after the disappointment that was 5.0 but I do hope we get something substantial.

Again, PSN Name Changes have nothing to do with firmware the console runs on. It's a backend thing. If at all ever, you'll likely do it on the web.

I honestly expect this FW update to be a whole lot of nothing. 5.0 was a bit of a dud wasn't it? Though you'd think there would be some discernible changes else what's the point of beta testing?

The more I wonder, the more curious I get. There has to be serious new functionality that I'm not imagining, for 6.0 to be justified, here. The only question is... what? New resolution support? PS1 and PS2 emulation? Some brand new connectivity feature? I'm starting to get excited.

It was not a leak, if I remember correctly, a Naughty Dog employee (or something like that) posted it on a GAF topic where people were complaining about update 5.0. He said that the update had several things "under the hood" that would serve for future updates.

That was m0dus. Dont think he works for ND.

And it was true, 5.5 brought Pro Supersampling which was an often requested feature.

I think a gifting option is more crucial than a name change. Why in hell can't we gift games like with any otehr service? Like someone said, name change doesn't need a firmware and should be browser based and should work on all platforms, not just the PS4. It expect it to be just one timed and then paid later like some otehr services.

Shawn Layden hinted about the possibility last year

Damn, that would be pretty amazing. They should definitely roll out the feature in waves or do a lottery style method. Servers will melt and complete anarchy will ensue if everyone can change their names at once lol.

I don't even have a PS4 at the moment, but will probably jump back in this fall or with PS5. Regardless, I will still want to change my name immediately on the website should this happen.

Are the sign ups closed? I wanted to apply for someone and the link is dead.

EDIT: Should have read the post above mine. I'll check again another time.

Can't wait for people getting mad because; "a version like this should have amazing changes! This only seems like a 5.99 version."

Intrigued to see what will be new though.

Hasn't been anything worthwhile in updates for me since rest mode and SharePlay, so hopefully this has something decent.

The increase in cloud save storage space was a backend change too and it was communicated as part of a firmware update.

If/when PSN ID change happens it will absolutely be communicated as part of a firmware update too.

Why wouldn't name changes be a part of a firmware release? You're more than likely going to need a way to change your name on console or for it to be represented in the account settings.

I still don't think we get it until PSX if it exists though.

My guess is PS Now downloads for this update. Can't really think of anything else they could add with how they've lately been with updates. Not getting my hopes up for name change, gifting or anything big.

I doubt Name Changes would be in the beta, even if they are included in the firmware update. I doubt Sony would want to give one group early access to being able to change their names unless they link it to PS+

Name change is kinda big so I doubt it's just gonna be in firmware update. Gamescom announce or smth maybe.
