Smash Bros. Ultimate looks SO HYPE!

The best part is that every fighter is coming back, which includes seven that were missing from Smash 4. There are also three new fighters announced so far. All of that, on top of everyone from Smash 4!

First, which characters are you happiest to have back, and why? Personally, I'm most excited for Squirtle and Ivysaur returning alongside Charizard as part of Pokemon Trainer, who was one of my mains in Brawl.

And of course I'm stoked for Snake, who is one of the few videogame characters I care about "as a person" (I'm including Big Boss in this).

As far as the newcomers, it's still wonderfully surreal to have Ridley playable in Smash. It's well-deserved and he looks beautifully realized!

Anyways, here are the fighters we're talking about here:

Also, before anyone asks, I would have a poll but we're limited to only five options on Resetera. :-O

I've been wanting the scaly space pterodactyl for years so he kinda wins this by default.

Of the returners, I dig Squirtle's updated animations a lot.

Inkling looks like the most interesting new comer. Glad Snake is back, will be excited for Young Link if they ever fix his model.

Wolf looks cool so it's glad to have the SF crew back

Honestly Pichu

I know he's probably going to be a joke character but he's so darned cute and represents what I feel is the best generation of Pokémon. I really hope they actually go out of their way to make every character viable in a certain sense, and that'd likely involve making Pichu's attacks much more powerful to make up for the self-sustaining damage

The others I just feel like I know what we're getting. I sure hope they make Young Link a bit smaller though, it's awkward seeing him side by side with normal Link

Ridley for sure. He's been in every single Smash game since the original but this is the first time he's playable. I've been waiting what feels like my entire life to have Ridley in the roster! As a massive Metroid fan it's brilliant to finally have another series rep beyond Samus...and Samus again. They captured his character perfectly too. Ridley actually looks like he's freaking murdering people when he's in the ring, he's so violent and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Probably Inkling, I've been hoping for their inclusion since the first Splatoon released. Also, I remember having a lot of fun playing as Squirtle in Brawl so I'm excited to play with him again, as well as Ridley obviously.

What do you want fixed with Young Link's model? He looks great — I'd love Ocarina of Time rebuilt (again) with assets like that. :-)

Not trolling but honestly ...Daisy kinda lol
Daisy seriously looks great. I love how they captured her energetic personality.

Squirtle for sure, always been one of my favorite Pokemon and I used him a lot in Brawl along with Ivysaur. I was very bitter when only Charizard was brought forward since I didn't like using him.

Ridley.

How the fuck is it not Ridley.

7 of those are vets, the other ones are inkling which was obvious and Daisy who is a clone. Ridley on the other hand was literally the most vocally requested character prior to his inclusion and he looks awesome.

Side note: I love how grounded all these character renders are. It's clear they were made for amiibo unlike many of the veterans.

Dat Yung Link and Wolf, my old mains from Melee and Brawl, respectively, are the ones I'm most excited to see returned to me.

I thought Pichu was a lazy/lame addition back in the day, but now I have a certain fondness for him. He embodies my nostalgia for Gen 2 of Pokemon, and I also like the novelty of trying to win with a character that hurts himself, lol. Someone winning with Pichu at tournaments will be hype.

Ridley for sure. He's been in every single Smash game since the original but this is the first time he's playable. I've been waiting what feels like my entire life to have Ridley in the roster! Yeah, I'm quite pleased with how Sakurai went all-in with Ridley's violent nature. Everything about him, from his savage animations to his grotesque texture, makes him stand out on the roster, which enhances variety and makes the roster feel richer overall.

Ivysaur and Squirtle.

Loved the way they played back in Brawl

Also Pichu, such a joke character but man did it feel good when you would beat someone with Pichu

Inkling is the one that looks the most fun, both from a concept perspective and gameplay perspective. But I'm looking forward to trying out Snake again in the new engine.

Wolf. I used him so much in Brawl. His FSmash chewed through peeps and one of the better taunts, "What's the matter? Scared?"

After that, Inkling. Felt super solid when I played them at E3 and the Splat Bomb is a really fun special to use with the variable angles, painting the stage when players are trying to recover, and painting in general puts a unique change to the classic keep away strategy.

Pokémon Trainer in general, i love that you can switch between the 3 with no penalties at all, also Squirtle and Ivy looking super good so far.

Ivysaur is a character where all of his moves just feel fun to me. Bullet Seed for anti-air, Razor Leaf, Vine Whip, the spinning leaf attack, the spore attack, etc. Plus it's refreshing to play as a quadruped.

Also, I still think he was the perfect middle form to choose. He still has the cuteness of Bulbasaur but with a bit more detail to make him interesting. :-)

Ice climbers. They're just such a fun and unique character. I would say squirtle but I'm just slightly disappointed that Pokemon trainer is back rather than 3 different characters (though that's a minor complaint).

Squirtle for sure. Not only was it my very first Poke, but it had some devastating aerials and was blindingly fast/hard to hit. With the stamina system gone I'm very excited to see if i can make a good Squirtle main out of myself.

There's no penalty for not switching now, so you can pick Squirtle and stick with him. All you lose by not using the other characters is a down special attack. (Although if you don't mind switching and then switching back, Squirtle could still use the switching move as a faster dodge.)

Wolf. He was more fun to use compared to Fox and Falco.
Wolf always felt like the most unique "clone" to me. All of his normals are unique compared to Fox and Falco, and while his specials share some similarities, they were more different from Fox than Falco's were from Fox.

Lucas is technically this for me since I stopped playing Smash For before the DLC came around, and I'm planning on maining him.

Otherwise, Wolf is my favourite returning character since I loved him in Brawl, and I'm really excited for Ridley and Inkling.

Ridley looks fun but I tend to love the more gimmicky types so Inkling wins out

for veterans: it's all about Wolf, baby

My friends and I do tournaments with the AI competing against each other. I'm assuming they'll still change character after each life.

I'm definitely the most excited to play as Ridley. I've been wanting to play as him since Brawl! I honestly thought it would never happen. Inkling looks like they'll be a lot of fun too, but Ridley has to be my most anticipated new character.

For returning characters, it's a tie between Wolf and Snake. I played as them a lot on Brawl, and I can't wait to try them out in SSBU!

Wolf by far, as he was the Brawl returning character I wanted the most.

Ridley is a great new addition though, and he seems like he was implemented in a really cool way to be a heavy hitter that's still viable in 1v1. But until I play him I don't have enough attachment to the character to suuuuper excited for him.

I love the Inklings as a character but I'm not quite hyped for them in Smash yet. Although by all accounts they're a blast to play in Smash.

Ridley sounds difficult to use. Probably very capable in the right hands, but I imagine a lot of people will struggle with him at first.

Daisy. She's my main character in the Mario Kart games, and soon she'll be my main character in smash!
