I'd like it for the gameplay adjustments(not that skyrim is great) but I understand given how invested they are in new projects at the moment. Hopefully Skywind can deliver.

Todd is just worried that if he remasters Morrowind, the Final Pam might finally break free from her prison and consume him and eventually all of reality.

He's doing us all a favor, really.

Morrowind cannot be remade in a way that will make fans happy, because no developer can recapture the sheer wonder of seeing the birth of a new genre, of playing an open world game in a media landscape where this was a completely alien concept.

A remaster of Morrowind would make their current games look like complete dogshit in the RPG aspect of things. So I highly doubt they're going to touch that with a barge pole. Besides we have mods and skywind, beyond skyrim etc.

The Land
First thing people usually do with Morrowind is use distant landscape and whatnot that removes all of the atmosphere and identity of Morrowind. Most people don't even want Morrowind when they say they do, they want that idea of Morrowind they have in their head, and that's what's used for their argument that newer BGS games suck.

Good. Focus on the new. During my ongoing tour of BGS' 2002-onward catalog, I'm discovering that I vastly prefer the newer fare anyway.

I think this is a bad choice. People would definitely buy Morrowind or Fallout 3 again if they ever decide to remaster them.

Todd shouldn't be interested in making remasters.

But parent company Zenimax should be interested in hiring outside talent to do it for him.

It makes sense, they want to work on new things.

Skyrim is the exception because its basically the ambassador on new platforms for their games.

Deep inside they know that the old Fallouts and TES are somewhat more complex and niche games, so they make efforts to get away from those in order to sell "easier" games to a broader audience.

Or that is what the voices in my head tell me.

Please don't ever let Bethesda remaster anything Fallout related, 3D or otherwise. They work perfectly well.

Agree with Mr. Todd here. I just hope i'm still kicking it when they get around to making an new game set in Morrowind for ElderScrolls 13.

A remaster of the first 2 Fallouts could be amazing if handeld well. Those games are kinda rough to play these days on modern systems and screens. I know theres mods but that shit is still too tiny for my 4k screen.

Todd Howard not interested in easy money.
Considering the Skyrim remaster, I think the subtext here is that working to update Morrowind and Oblivon to meet modern graphical standards would take too much effort and resources for their expected return and would draw those resources away from new games in production.

More like remakes would be confusing and overwhelming to the majority of Skyrim fans.

Yeah honestly I think thats a big part of it too. No quest markers would be the biggest thing. That first main mission to get the dwemer box was something special to me. You had to follow landmarks and roadsigns to even find the dungeon. That would drive a lot of people nuts I'm sure but it was one of the best things about the game to me. Having to navigate the world made it feel real.

LMAO there is so much truth to this.

Bethesda apparently doesn't want easy money.
None of it is easy money though. They would have to put way more time and resources into some of the games than they would get back in return. It's not like skyrim that was an easy remaster than any of their other games to bring to newer consoles.

With anything as old as Morrowind, it wouldn't be a remaster so much as it would be a complete remake. Very little code or assets could actually be reused. It would essentially be building a new Elder Scrolls game from scratch - So not only would it take as long as building a new game (so not "easy money") but it would essentially be a different game. Less Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and more Elder Scrolls VI: It Takes Place in Morrowind.

I just want a straight Morrowind port to a current console platform. I wouldn't need a remaster as I like the original graphics.

I get their logic, but a 3D remake of Fallout 1 would be a brand new game for everyone besides the couple hundred thousand people who played Fallout back in the day, and a brand new experience for those of us who played back then, or since.

A 3D Fallout 1 or 2 remake... there isn't an announcement in gaming that would hype me up more. They'd have to make some tweaks to redesign those huge maps in the context of one large explorable open world (or give players a fast traversal option in a 76-sized world that's mostly desert, wastelands, and the occasional forest), but I think it could be done.
The only way a remake of F1 and F2 would work is if it's not made by Bethesda. They'll just ruin them.

Seriously, the idea that Morrowind would be an "easy money" remaster is just supremely idiotic.

Not to mention the effort that it would require to remaster these games would basically be as costly as making a whole new game. Especially since some people are demanding an outright remake of the games given the mechanics of both the first Fallout and original Morrowind aren't exactly friendly to the modern player, or your typical Bethesda game player of today.

Why focus on the past when they can just work on the Elder Scrolls VI or Starfield people won't shut up about. The massive community of modders can work on remastering these games, like they already are doing. Let them do that.

Fallout, Fallout 2, and Morrowind are all perfectly playable today. If you can't accept them in their current form, you probably wouldn't like them remastered.

Fallout Remastered has basically all the pros and cons of a new BGS Fallout, plus the potential for cult backlash because Bethesda "ruined" the original Fallout. It wouldn't really save any money over just building a new Fallout game, it would constrain the developers and writers, and the same people who dislike BGS Fallout games won't suddenly come out for this one because it's a remake of the first game; if anything that audience would be more likely to reject it than a new Fallout game, I think.

Good! Because I totally didn't want that Fallout 3 Remaster for the Switch that was a rumor during E3 that I totally didn't get my hopes up for!
