I don't wanna sound negative cause I'm looking forward to the update, but I think 50 dollars is a bit too much.
Just curious, have you played the three major updates before this upcoming one?
I only ask because I was going to respond to Shivers saying I think it's well worth jumping in at this point.

It may be cheaper on other platforms but there's more than enough content in the game to justify the price imo.

I'm quite curious to see how the total number of players will be. In the current state, I know that up to 16 players, but is this number per universe/server or solar system?

I would like to see a larger number (about 24 or 32 players), but I believe that 16 per solar system (4 groups of 4) is the minimum to have space battles, planetary encounters and so on.
16 players is per instance, and each solar system it its own instance. So the universe is never synchronized as a whole.

Also, I want to point out that PvP is in no way confirmed. This is Sean saying "prey on other players" and the reddit community running wild with that.

All we know for sure is that we can invite "a small number of friends" (2-4 according to the Xbox store page).

Looks like there might be cosmetics (guessing avatars now we can see them?) for sale now. Can't blame them, the last four major updates have added an absolute ton to the game and they plan to continue releasing free updates of this size moving forward.

I'm 100% okay with this. For the 120+ hours Ive gotten since launch and the absurd amount of work they've put in and continue to put in, I'll gladly continue to support by buying cosmetics.

I bought the game the week Atlas Rises released and played for maybe 30 hours. At the time I traded the game cause I thought everything took too much time to do. The honest answer is I liked it very much but felt lonely in that huge universe and wanted to play it co-op. That's why I'm looking forward to this update the most. I have a cousin who plays co-op games with me and this seems like a great fit for us. He absolutely loves Subnautica and I think after NEXT, NMS will become closer to that experience with the added benefit of co-op.

That said, I think it should release at 30 or 40 dollars. I agree that it has a lot of content compared to the initial release, but it still is a two year old game. Since I have no money now, I'm waiting for a sale on the PS4 version. Hopefully there will be one come next tuesday.

I feel like they should be a little more open about it if this is a thing that's happening, and not just spring whatever it is on people on launch day. I don't have a problem with it, but a little transparency goes a long way.

Do we think they'll rework the gate system so it doesn't require dozens of hours of hunting glyphs to meet up with friends for coop? seems like making people play 50+ hours to travel to their friends would be pretty dicey, especially if you're trying to lure in new players with the promise of online coop.

Actually, it's my worry that they simplify stuff like that too much. The sense of 'earned' status is something NMS players appreciate. When you see a person with a great farm or base or ship or freighter, you know it is well earned and worked for. I don't want that taken away.

Lots of games without in-app purchases have that label on their store page.

I agree, I just think if you make the wall too high for a lot of people who come in just for the multiplayer aspect of the game, you lose a lot of them in the process. As a fan of the game, I have zero issue with that, but I imagine if you work at HG and sales and longevity of the product pay the bills, they want to give people more of a reason to keep playing, not more frustration trying to connect to people you know in-game.

Finding the glyphs is a bit too hard though. I played like 30 hours or something after Atlas Rises came, and I only managed to get like 2 glyphs, one from story, the other by chance. I actively sought them out a few times by checking caves too.

The designation can also include pre-order offers, basically as soon as there are Addons. No Man's Sky - Next Generation Booster Pack

That's a good point, 7 Days To Die has "+ Offers in-app purchases" on the store page, but I don't think the game actually offers any in-game paid DLC, at least not at this point.

7 Days To Die has several paid DLC packs.

They're not being secretive. They're just waiting to announce all of these things either Friday, or Monday (that's how they've always done it). We'll get a lot of details here in a few days about everything they're going to put out, which I'm sure is related to the long wait for pre-order availability on the Xbox market place.

Fuck I'm excited to play this game on Xbox. I played it for an hour at a friends when it first came out and thought it was pretty neat then. It looks 10x better now

Yeah, maybe make them a bit easier to find but still require you to search to find them.

Hopefully the multiplayer is separate and set up in a different way. I would imagine we'll have to start afresh anyway, otherwise anyone who'd been playing for hundreds of hours and owns a fully upgraded gun would be able to blow a newb away in seconds.

Wasn't it possible to effectively remove another players base by claiming your own base on the same planet, as only one base per planet was allowed? I hope this is different now.

So, none of you used the ringed planet mod ? Or are you both on console ?

It already looks great (thanks to Lo2K):

Goddamn.. with some games, being a console only player completely sucks lol

I hope it's not a separate mode, I don't want to start over. I don't think people having better tech will affect much, considering how rare is going to find people anyways, other than your teammates (if it has any kind of party system).

It should be, yes. There's still going to be a limit I assume, otherwise people will just be claiming bases on every planet they land on, making them inaccessible for anyone else. If it IS limitless then I can see the potential for trolling by some members of the community in that regard.

One more thing (and potentially positive) that could come out of the fact you can now build bases anywhere and make them much more complex, is the chance of more diverse NPC bases. If we can have them anywhere then that means those flat lands set aside for outposts and the such are no longer required, meaning there's now no restriction on those either. I'm praying that things like the deserted building have a variety of layouts, even if that variety is set by a dozen or more templates, some rarer than others. Vary the materials they can be made out of and it would become far more interesting to explore them.

If you haven't played the Atlas Rises story campaign then I'd recommend starting afresh. I would also recommend keeping away from what more advanced players are saying because nothing spoils the natural flow of the game more than you wanting something that's literally 50 hours away. That's the main reason some people get caught up in grinding. Start afresh, take your time and enjoy the experience as it was intended.

Definitely. I've been playing since launch, and I guess, for me, I don't think about the game in terms of, say "min/maxing" things. I take it on a need by need basis. Starting fresh, I had a good idea of what I wanted to achieve back then; get my ship up and running, but primarily upgrade storage on my suit, and see if I could get a few multi-tool upgrades. It was user motivated objectives. Then, once those were taken care of (solid storage, solid weapon upgrades, ship repaired), I'd just get lost in space travel, until the next need arose (ie, a better hyperdrive for my ship so I could go further and explore longer).

I try to lose myself in the rp of being a space adventurer, instead of making the experience feel "gamey."

Each update to the game extended my player motivated objectives (ie, "I want a freighter! I want a base! I want X thing for my base, and need to do Y to get it!"). I'm not sure what the player motivated objective will be for this next update (I guess I still have Atlas Rises stuff to complete), but I'm looking forward to being able to play the game with my wife and explore with her. Maybe I'll try and find other explorers depending on how easy it is to locate other players. I'm also interested in further QoL improvements they have put in. Have their been full patch notes release yet?

Is it safe to say this will be the last major update? I really want to get in now, but I want the whole package from start.

The model for this game is Minecraft, so updates like this will be ongoing.

It's one thing to bear in mind when it comes to the game as a value proposition. The devs have shown they are capable of putting out significantly content rich updates over the last couple of years and will continue to do so. Engaging with the update content alone has doubled my play time since launch.

2500 people playing No Man's Sky on Steam. Pretty impressive given how low those numbers regularly were not too long after the initial launch. It'll be interesting to see how much it peaks come Tuesday.

I played it upon release for a few weeks then sold. WIth this are we thinking it might be a good time to pick back up?

Let's put it this way: the first year after launch they released three updates, which added a new progression system, an actually pretty good sci-fi storyline, base building, ground vehicles, visual improvements, deeper crafting, overhauled trading, mission job board, ownable freighters, expanded combat abilities, etc. The entire second year after launch HG has only been focused on developing the NEXT update. We saw a lot in that trailer, but I think there's a lot we haven't seen yet.

The basic game loop remains though, so you have to be into that. Check the official site if you want more details on how far it's come already. Considering your background you might have some fun with the vehicles. You can get a ton of air on the small landspeeder-ish one.

It's perfect for ps+ really, surprised it hasn't happened yet.

Their model is Minecraft; pay once and get free updates for a very long time. If they did "pay nothing (or whatever small amount Sony might give per copy)" with PS+ that would cease to be a viable strategy. I don't expect to ever see NMS on PS+ or Gamepass. Not unless they started leaning heavily on cosmetic microtransactions.

This is my hope as well, and it makes sense given the countdown timer that appeared on the WT twitch stream.

Yeah that countdown is for the ARG finale event, but I expect something NMS to be revealed there.

Isn't it usually places like Dubai that sell it the earliest?

Isn't that the same place the revealed the initial NEXT trailer though? Makes sense that they'd conclude this leg of the ARG, and then run the trailer after it (hopefully).

So now that there is online, can we expect launch to be a disaster for a few days?
I'm super stoked to boot up my launch PS4 copy, but I have my doubts it will be a smooth launch with the scale of these updates.

The problem with this thinking is that they trailer was element 6 on this site:http://uplink.satcom-70.com/dashboard/, which were all teases for the game, it was also the last of this group.

Is wildlife still in the game or is it gone?

There is you can see some in one of the quick cuts

interested in the game now but its waaay too expensive. came out two years ago on PC and its still $60, absolutely not. Was hoping when i checked the page it would be $20-$30
