Thats cool. But I don't jump on Sony because they make economic decisions. Microsoft is pretty far off competition wise.
I'll jump on Sony for their incompetence. They could have one server providing online for multiple older games, or better yet, set up a proper peer to peer system like Microsoft. But investing money properly is apparently not one of Sony's "economic decisions".

This is such a bummer. I got all the Dusty token rewards ages ago but I really enjoyed the treasure hunts and challenges from other players. Hell, I liked goofing off with the online stuff a hell of a lot more than I liked the main game (which I was lukewarm on).

Online was necessary for infinite gravity talisman and all those exclusive costumes.

This is the real tragedy of the servers going down.

I don't really understand why they didn't just patch it to give the items and costumes to everyone.

I was able to get to 6k tokens in about 2 weeks this month. Was a ton of fun the treasure hunts, taking pictures, seeing pictures.

A patch to gain online items ofine would have gone a long way. Shame, one and two are fairly unique games.

If Uncharted 4 sold this poorly, would they have nixed that game's multiplayer, too? Or Bloodborne? Let's say those games sold poorly in a world where Uncharted isn't well-regarded and From Software is a studio nobody's familiar with. Do they nix the servers now?
If it doesnt generate income, yes they will. I would even do the same. At least if i were sony, i would put an axe on them if it didnt bring me money

I got everything the first month the game was out, but it's sad nonetheless, as a sign that most likely we'll never get GR3, when they can't even afford a last patch to give me the white outfit.

I was able to get the 6k tokens in four days of playing. Rushing the game wasn't as fun as absorbing it at a leisurely pace but the rush and thrill to 6k certainly left me with a daze.

Well, patch in offline challenges, at least, since the Dusty Tokens also reward you with an infinite gravity meter talisman.

It's mind-boggling that they didn't take at least a bit of time to implement a contingency plan for replacing the online features.

A dame shame really. The game was really awesome and the least the could do is to patch it giving everyone the items.

Hopefully it gets the Demon's Souls or Metal Gear Solid 4 treatment and gets fan made unofficial servers.

Nevertheless we can say goodbye to Gravity Rush. What a proper run it had, but it will comeback and its comeback will be more potential like nier to nier Automata. Until that time, this is all we have (even though i dont play this game, but i can foretell the potential.. please dont judge me)

And offer the pre-order costume too. Anortehr silly decision to lock special items behind pre-order timed pay wall for this game, GOW and le companies like S-E offered their pre-order DLCs eitehr for free or paid after certain period. Thank God pre-order costumes for Spider-Man are unlockable in the game.

Shame on Sony. Awful display.

I have the feeling of having seen more threads and posts about gravity rush 2 servers than gravity rush 2 - the game- itself.

I still haven't found the time to play the game that I bought more than a year ago, but even then I'm not really worried about missing some optional sidestuff.

Ok, we aren't actually sad/upset. We are just Xbots!

The funny thing is that Gravity Rush 2 offered costumes for Nier Automata and a costume and items for PSO2, a MMO that never crossed Japan.

Shame that it was barely supported more than a year, great game and treasure hunts were a lot of fun.

Just curious when they shut down online services for any game: are they planned automatically or is there someone waiting for the right time and moment to click on the auto-destruction button?

I hope my thread about the shut down helped some people. :/

I don't know why but in the past I have never cared about this kind of online stuff. Sending and rating pictures. Accepting challenges. Helping others find things. Comparing scores.

And yet Gravity Rush 2 did it so perfectly. I had a blast with the online features. And I'm so sad they're gone so that others can't experience them.

I don't care if not a bazillion players played this game. It's a first party game and there's no way it should have been that resource intensive either.

It just comes off as cheap of Sony and I'm not happy about it.

In my experience, a person/people do it. They just go and stop everything and it's done (well usually there's still boring stuff to do after you shut it down -- take final backups, release resources, etc).

Good to know. Someone said the best costumes are still in the game. What do you think?
That's true.

The only really unique costume is the miners outfit which looks cool because it is a normal looking outfit but the other two are just different variations of outfits you can get in the game. You have the shifter outfit which looks almost identical to the official outfit Kat wears and you have the school outfit which is similiar to the one in the game with the only difference being the hairstyle.
I'd love to see this series have a second life on Switch, back being portable.
Sony owns the series.

How noticeable is it?

When I first played Sunset Overdrive something seemed off - only when I googled I realised

Huh? I'm not sure what you're talking about, Sunset Overdrive servers are still on. Online player population is rather low, however, or at least it used to be before the game was added to Game Pass.

I really enjoyed the challenges when I got to play them earlier in the year. Especially the treasure hunt/photo ones. The game is still a lot of fun without the online, but I'll miss those features.

Ain't gonna lie, I had other games to play. But still, for them to shut it down soon after is lame as hell.

Seems there was a different top as well which I didn't notice.

The online exclusive:

The school outfit one you can get offline:

Notice the outfit next to the nurse and red dress, this is the miners outfit.

Well that sucks she looks cute in that one. I like that outfit. Time to petition lol. I cannot believe this game already got canned online. I honestly think in this case calls on bullshit are warranted.

This sets an ugly precedent. Niche titles from Sony apparently don't get to stick around for long. Gravity Rush 2 had barely a year before it lost such a great component of its gameplay.
The thing that really annoys me is that the multiplayer features in this game are asynchronous. Sony should not have expected the servers to be used constantly or very much at all. There were thousands of players playing together when they first announced the servers were going to shut down. They couldn't have been costing Sony much money to run. Hell, they still had Starhawk's servers up at the time. I understand this game wasn't a commercial success but I think Sony should eat those server costs for at least a two year grace period for the good will alone.

They could have given new life to the game by having a free trial weekend and posting about the game on social media. Wouldn't even need a marketing budget. Just something to get people interested in the game. This stuff doesn't instill confidence in future niche games published by Sony. If anything, it'll make people more hesitant to pick up titles like Gravity Rush 2 when they release. Sure, the online features aren't super important in this game but who's to say that will be true of every game that Sony fails to support for more than a year. It was good of them to push back the shut down date but I'm not going to applaud them for addressing something that shouldn't have been an issue to begin with.

Crazy that in this day and age you need to shut down a service while we have technology to allow for scalable systems being run on demand.

This. If very few people are playing you don't need hundreds of servers for the online to work. It's not even a competitive mode, afaik, so it doesn't matter if there's some lag.

There was supposed to be content showing on the TV's and that wasn't there? When I played it it was always a blank screen and nothing showing?

Oh, right, Sunset TV is gone. It was used to communicate news and highlight weekly challenges. It was also pretty entertaining, but thankfully, all of it is still archived on the game's official YouTube channel.

...and now I started watching it all over again. God, I need to find the time to replay this game.

I remember being surprised that they tied that one to tokens back when I first started playing, since other outfits she had from the first game (maid outfit, spy catsuit, military uniform) carried over from GRR save data instead.
