Such a sexy phone.

Damn it is 7.1.1 September 2017 update.

Guess it never had a second shipment lol.

Seems solid so far. Great build and design. Sexiest phone I've own yet. Especially for $250.Doing many updates though.

Vibration motor sucks

That's the essential? Looks nice!

I'll be putting my S9+ on Swappa as soon as I unlock it from my carrier (T-Mobile) and take pictures of it.

Small scratch on the screen, but it's not visible with the Dome Glass screen protector on it, and the back should be perfect since I put a dbrand skin on it before it had a chance to get scratched.

It's a really great phone, I just jumped the gun on getting a new phone so soon after getting my last one.
I think in a few months I might be ready for either the new Note or the new iPhone's. Either way I'll probably hang onto my Moto Z Play as a long term backup phone, it's battery is just too good to give up.

All the talk about drop resistance makes me sad. I don't drop my phone and have never broken a screen. Scratches though... even babying my phones, they still get microscratches.
Seriously.

Cases with lips and cushioned corners = me never cracking a screen in my life.

Meanwhile 2d curved screens makes it near impossible to find decent tempered screen protectors without spending $50 on Whitestone

On another note, they're bringing what is called, "LoopPay Valet":
http://paymentsjournal.com/the-shape-of-mobile-payments-to-come/
Now they need to have it everywhere so that people can get on board.
Oh sweet, one of the main reasons I wanted a Samsung watch was for the Samsung Pay, but something small enough to put on my keychain would be even more convenient (especially if the battery lasts for several days at a time).
I'm curious if you can have more than one card on it at a time, I'm sure you can switch it with a phone app or something but having at least 2 on it at a time would be nice.

Also wonder if this'll work on iPhones, pretty sure Samsung Pay on their watches didn't work on iOS, but since the whole purpose of this thing is to be a digital card I would hope it would work on anything.

You definitely can add more than one card for it. :)

It'll also work with iPhones as well. BTW, I just E-mailed John Ayers about it & asked him when will it be available, & if we can buy one. He says that it isn't a commercial device yet & is being used as part of a closed pilot.

They hope that it will go commercial in the future. If it does, then there will go the reason for me to even buy myself another Samsung phone, as I can just download theLoopPay app, then follow the directions to use it anywhere.

Shame it's not going straight to commercial, I'd buy one right away if it was.
Guess I'll still look for news about the S4 watch.

Yeah, we'll have to stick to either the specific Samsung phones or either the Gear S3 or the upcoming "Galaxy Watch" (probably won't be called the Gear S4) watches for both MST & NFC mobile payments within Samsung Pay in the meantime.

I was looking at a Galaxy Wear S3 Frontier last Saturday. It is by far the best looking Android wearable, and Tizen definitely navigated better than Android Wear ever did, but Bixby instead of Google Assistant is just a deal breaker.

What's the best news reader? I use feedly right now, but its not consistent to use imo.
Images won't load sometimes, duplicate entries and stuff like that.

Gorilla Glass 6 announced!
They keep pushing GG towards more shatter resistance but at the expense of scratch resistance. (Hardness and brittleness on glasses are a continuum, the harder the glass is, the more brittle it is.)

I'm very very unhappy about how much easier it is to scratch recent revisions of GG compared to before. I don't give a fuck about shatter resistance because I put a case on my phones. The trend on phones is towards making them easier to fuck up cosmetically because most people can't use screen protectors on these 3D curved class phones anymore and if you make a phone that scratches up really easily, it's much easier to force people to upgrade yearly when they fuck their screens up with lots of scratches compared to before where people tended not to upgrade unless they outright shattered them.

This is how consumer electronics works, the goal is to force upgrades by constantly finding new ways to plan obsolescence. It's no wonder our planet's oceans are full of giant garbage patches.

I actually removed the OP6's pre-installed screen-protector because it fucked up being able to properly user gestures. So that's another thing that makes screen-protectors increasingly unmanageable.

I babied both my S7E and S9+ and both of them have tons of hairline scratches, but at least they are only vibisible under direct sunlight. I've never cracked a screen before but I can blame them for going in that dirextion, I legit think half of my friend's screens look like fucking spiderwebs.

Well I got my Essentual Phone today... as an empty box. The Amazon box was sealed but the phone was open and all the stuff was missing.
Opened a case with Amazon.. holding out for a phone as I ordered the fucking camera this morning already.

Had my S8+ over a year and no screen protector. Not a single scratch.

It only ever goes in my pocket and my left pocket is phone only. Everything else goes in the right.

I as looking into upgrading my LG Watch R to one with Google Pay. Too expensive and not very good was my impression with that batch of watches.

Buying expensive stuff from Amazon is always a gamble given how lax they are with the returns and how rarely often they get actually checked before being thrown into the warehouse again unless they were returned for being defective.

Yep. I've had mixed success with their open box/ refurbished items. Went through like 4 kindles before finding one in good shape.

Hmmm there's gotta be some microscratches.

Check with a flashlight.

I remember the back of my s8 was scratched up even with a case.

God I hate glass back phones

But in this case it happens a lot with supposedly new and sealed stuff. And when it happens you can only pray they don't try to pin it on you, especially if your account is recent or you're not a big spender.

When I'm back from vacation in a couple days I'll get my hands on my Essential Phone. See how I like it compared to my S8.

If it sticks, it'll be my first unlocked stock Android phone. I would really love to dabble in the root / Adblock / Xposed space and know there are some good XDA tutorials. My big question here though is if there is a good guide somewhere to just get the general lexicon and procedures learned before diving in (e.g. understanding things like backup, kernels, ROMs, flashing, etc.). Any resources appreciated.

Hey guys,

I have a Galaxy Note 8 and I remember there being a way to prioritize app notifications and even create an exemption list for Do Not Disturb mode. This morning I can't seem to find ANY of that. Did they remove that function? That would be incredibly annoying.

Hmmmm seems like Samsung is thinking about consolidating s line and note line.

Makes sense. Plus and note is basically the same thing besides the pen

Oh yeah, I did this and I think I can see one scratch, less than a centimetre on the right hand side and only at certain angles with the screen off under a flashlight.
