Who's the best to start off with?

  • Cyrus - Magic AOE, Reduce encounter rate
  • Olberic - Tanky, two physical AOE attacks
  • Therion - Free loot to get stronger, can easily save scum if you want to get good carry stuff
  • Alfyn - Concoct is good, his inquire in towns isn't a percentage and can lead to good stuff/quest completion, AOE axe attack that is strong af
  • H'annit - Bow AOE, captures creatures to allow weakness wide breaks exploitation (limited use per monster)
Outside of character exclusive stuff past chapter 1, I feel like if you're having a rough start, these 5 are the easiest to start with for varying reasons. Ultimately, once you have an understanding of breaks, you'll be fine. Taking out mobs with multi hit AOE breaks early on is really helpful.

There is one thing that really bothers me about the map design in this game. A lot of the times the exits from areas do not match up to the cardinal directions on the map; this moreso bothers me exiting towns than in fields.

It can be a pain at times. It's like Friday the 13th on NES lol

I tried a max level Bewildering Grace last night, and got fucked hard. Everyone got poisoned and muted, and Ophilia lost all her SP. I relied on healing items and soulstones to finish the fight.

Try doing Bewildering Grace against a normal encounter after killing all of the enemies except one. That way if the casting goes south you can simply kill the lone enemy. Also might be a good idea to this just outside a town so if half your party is dead from some of the worst combinations you can just run to an Inn for immediate recovery without using a bunch of items.

Once you recruited more people and geared them, you can easily set up your first turn to have Cyrus cast a buffed, fully boosted Firaga and nuke them without even needing to break them. You'd need to give the dancer to someone else though or use Primrose.

That actually make senses, although I wanted the SP regen from the Dancer class because he clearly needs it. I'll probably give him the Merchant Class or Thief Class next while someone else Buffs him. Thanks!

I've found two secret class shrines just outside of towns. There is a small dungeon you go through for each, and it culminates in a majorly difficult boss battle every time.

Ah - is there a way to tell off the bat if it's a secret class shrine? I found one area that CLEARLY had somewhere for a boss battle and a save point right before it, but it was empty (this was chapter 1). Should I revisit?

Anyone know how poison works? Is it percentage of enemy HP or does it scale with your own stats?
I never paid much attention to it but I feel like I saw numbers that were pretty far apart.
I think there are resistances to it. I poisoned therions ch 2 boss and it barely did anything.

I had another duel where H'annit was poisoned and she took 20% per round.

How does one go about locating the secret classes? Is there a challenge instead of just walking into a temple?

Well you still walk into a shrine ... but you might not walk out alive.

As for locating them, they are hidden like the basic shrines, maybe a bit better

They are also named "Shrine of the XXX" so you will know them if you see them, also they are danger level 50

They have the same icon on the map as the other job Shrines. Further more, when in them, you walk up to a stone slab that looks like the ones that give you the job subclasses, except you are challenged to a fight when you interact with them .

The boss fight vs this secret job shrine is one of the most tense boss fights I've had. I even died twice! But I managed to adapt and improve my loadout and strats. Stuff I barely used my first two attempts, including Hired Help, Arrowstorm and Spearhead + elemental resistance equipment turned out to be very useful.

What's the max EXP boost you can get with Bewildering Grace? I got x5 just now, but I'm wondering if there's better. Also, I got x5 first, and then x2. Do these multipliers stack or not? I have a feeling they don't, since I was fighting in an area where enemies typically give roughly 500 exp, and I received 2500 exp at the end of the battle.

I don't want to be spoiled on this so don't tell me everything, but did anyone ever find out what that final boss music was for that none of the reviewers found? Just a simple yes or no please don't want too much info

You guys were right, but not in the way you probably expected lol. I just tested it, and my character with 3206 HP got 536 damage from being poisoned. That's 16.7%, so it's probably 1/6 of your total health.
I'm pretty sure bosses work differently. Late game bosses have around 100k HP so you'd deal more than 10k damage each turn for almost no investment. I mean, I'd have definitely remembered a five digit number pop up lol

Quick question: do optional bosses respawn?

Poison damage might also very from enemy to enemy. I found an optional boss in an early dungeon that took well over 1000 points of poison damage every turn (over 10% of its health), while every other boss I've seen only takes 300-500.

Wow, I've equipped Cyrus with the SP Saver and Second Wind support skills, and he can basically cast whatever I want without ever dropping noticeably below his max SP level. Even his most expensive spell (at 12 SP) is almost immediately healed right back with the 9 SP per turn regen. He can basically can without limits now, and that's pretty awesome!

Only a couple of hours in (Just picked up 2nd party member, Tressa).

Is there an overarching plot to the game or is it just everyone's individual quests to complete?

So Ophelia's chapter 1 boss

So there is this boss I died to due to his second phase because he summoned suicide units. Second try I was able to exploit his weaknesses perfectly and prevent him from setting up phase 2.

This fucking game...damn

Geez I feel like this question is asked every single page of this thread.

Individual quests for the most part. Some party interactions in the form of "skits".

Hidden bonus dungeon at the end that ties everyone together.

Cool, cheers.

Apologies if asked previously, just didn't want to read 51 pages to find out :)

Do the shrines have the same logo as the subjobs shrines?

What happens if I miss a skit? Can't do it again? I read if you change players at the bar, you can have a new skit? I guess there are 7 skits per chapter?

The max for EXP is x100(I made a post earlier about popping that amount during a boss battle, which has trivialized most things since). JP as well(which also popped for me on an even earlier boss). Multiple multipliers of the same type do not stack, but it appears to keep the highest value.

I wouldn't really say it "ties everyone together". It's a hell of a lot of fun though.

Cyrus has a great skill called analyze that allows you to find out enemies' weaknesses. It makes him a good character to ease into the game imo.

If you don't like random encounters, Cyrus has a skill that reduces the encounter rate.

Thanks for the advice

  • Cyrus - Magic AOE, Reduce encounter rate
  • Olberic - Tanky, two physical AOE attacks
  • Therion - Free loot to get stronger, can easily save scum if you want to get good carry stuff
  • Alfyn - Concoct is good, his inquire in towns isn't a percentage and can lead to good stuff/quest completion, AOE axe attack that is strong af

Thank you for this break down. Like all JRPG's I've ever played I'm going to do some more research before deciding

Yes, the logos are the same.

I dunno about the skits. I've always watched them as soon as they pop up.

Man I've only had one exp booster and it was a flimsy x2. Y'all calling this skill busted are just super lucky.

I've had a couple of JPY x3 but that's it.

The vignettes/skits with the characters... do they only happen for characters in your respective party at the time, or do they apply to any of the 8, assuming you've done their chapter 1's and have joined you? I'd like to not miss any.

Apologies if this has already been answered.

Are there images floating around of characters' subjob costumes? Only aesthetics matter when it comes to giving a character a second job.

I beg to differ, Cyrus with Warrior subclass is almost a totally ineffective combination since his Phys Atk is terribly poor compared to the rest of the cast. He can hardly take advantage of additional weapons granted by subclassing Warrior outside of maybe just triggering weapon-related breaks. Besides that, he might as well just be subclass-less at that point.

Used a shit ton of items as well.

Yeah I've seen one exp x 2 proc and I've used the skill a pretty good amount of times. I'd say it fucks me over about 80% of the time. 10% of the time it's just meh, and 10% it's varying degrees of good.

People here must just be lucky. I've also only ever seen one Cait and that was like an hour or so into the game and didn't have any skills to take it out. It left before I could even do anything at all. No other ones have shown up since.

The most effective way to ensure a high value is to fight either a mob or a boss you're overleveled for, keep a Merchant throwing boost at whoever has Bewildering Grace in the party(having 2 with it expedites the process), and then boosting the hell out of it and spamming every turn(especially while there is only one enemy left and they are broken) while keeping the party healed and buffed(I used Oberyn with Apothecary subclass to draw fire and heal). I typically call it good after getting at least a 5x multiplier on both JP and EXP(or if one gets to 100x, finish the fight immediately). It may take 30 or more uses of the ability in a single fight(and you should be extra cautious against a boss because they are likely to be fully healed at some point by the move, so do early in the fight but after any minions are gone). It may take several tries, but the payoff will save you hours and completely break normal progression(because my party is overleveled, I spent 3 hours yesterday going to every town in the game and robbing them blind).

So how does the save transfer work from the demo?

I put in the full game cart in the system and it will just seemlessly see my demo save? I can then safely delete the demo?
