Ok, so I've been playing God of War for more than a week now, and I finished the game yesterday, and now I can't play anything else because the game was so good that it's the only thing I can think about it since I completed it. I know this will pass, not the first time it happened to me, but it's been a loooong time this kind of thing happens.

God of War truly felt as a journey, and I'm sad that I finished it, and now I have to wait years till the sequel. Maybe 4-5 years? I mean, I don't think it's possible to develop such a incredible game in every aspect in less time than that.

So what I'm saying is, I just can't play anything else because God of War is the owner of my mind at the moment. I guess I'll just buy Hollow Knight and try to forget about it.

Did this kind of thing happened to you guys before? And I a little crazy?

Yup. The game is that good. Best game this generation. Witcher3 and TLOU were the last two that made me feel that way.

I dropped the game a few hours in because it couldn't hold my interest at all. Maybe we're all crazy, OP.

God of War certainly had that effect on me.

Yakuza 0 is the other title I played this year that just consumed all of my gaming time for well over a month until I finished it. I felt incomplete once I finished it and stopped playing.

Ahh dark souls syndrome....

I've literally played a souls game mainly since the first one came out. Sure I'll take time to run through other games but as soon as I get to credits it's back to dark souls until the next big game.

Which is really good actually because I don't spend nearly as much money.

Lool. Same thing happened to me.

You'll shake it off
Then return when new game plus gets patched in

I was expecting this to go like "I hated God Of War so much that I'm now uninterested in video games" based on the thread title, had gotten the popcorn ready already and was sorely disappointed.

This has happened to me several times, especially after Dark Souls games. Usually moving onto something completely different to what I just played works.

I'm glad that I'm the only one who feels this way about a game. The Last of Us, GTA V and Kingdom Hearts II made me feel like this too.

It always happen after a really good game.

I get it after playing games like GTA series (apart from GTA5), Manhunt, Doom, Red Dead series, Quake, Demon's Souls, Resident Evil 4, God of War series and the list goes on.

The best way to solve it is to do something else and take a break from gaming for a week or so.

It happens. I've had it happen to me before. It's happening to me right now. I've tried starting like three or four different games in my backlog since I beat Prey two nights ago.

I wish i didn't have the urge to platinum games, by the time i platinumed it i was kinda burned out by it. But it is easily one of the greatest this gen.
Bloodborne though, just felt empty for a straight week.

Dark Souls & Dark Souls 3 did this to me. So did The Witcher 3. Finishing a Persona game drains me too. Nowadays I can't help but compare every single game to those and it just isn't fair.

In regards to God of War. For me it was less the overall game (which i did enjoy mind you). And more the combat system.

There are a lot of action games out there. There are however, not many action games with good combat systems.

It's hard not being overly critical going from something like God of War or Bloodborne and then trying something like Shining Resonance.

After a game like that you need a dumb pallet cleanser game.

Play Vanquish or something.

Man that has to suck. I don't know how I would feel if ONE game in One genre would make me disregard the entirety of all other games out there. I hope you get over it because that's a pretty debilitating issue you got there.

I needed to replay the originals after finishing GoW 2018. The new game is great, but I prefer the faster combat, more bosses, and puzzles of the originals.

Yeah same here. I finished it twice and whenever I start another game I get bored and close it. Took a break and now all good

Play Detroit. I played it immediately after playing God of War for a little over a month nonstop and the graphics, the characters, the story, the music and the mother fucking action blew me away. I would say it has a better story than God of War and there are lot of absolutely gut wrenching emotional moments. David 'Emotion' Cage killed it with Detroit.

Spiderman looks incredible and with Marvel and Sony behind it, it should come close to GoW's quality.

TLOU 2 is next year and should be even better than GoW. Death Stranding demo might have sucked but this is Kojima, he wont skimp on gameplay and will have an incredible campaign. Ghosts looks great too. Horizon should launch in 2020. GoW should come out in Fall 2021. 3.5 years should be enough to make a sequel on a next gen console.

Haha, yeah, I can see it.

I went ahead and played some games that were complete opposite of GOW though. Like Prison Architect and Terrerria.

My eyes rolled out of my head
Why? You've never played a game that left you feeling that way?

It's not uncommon. I've seen the story here before, and it happened to me before:

with Metroid Prime
with Deus Ex: Human Revolution
and with PREY

Those were games that enthralled me to the point where other games just felt rote for a little while. It's something that wears off, but it's not crazy.

I mean, I couldn't get Undertale out of my mind for months after I finished it, but I was still playing other stuff in the meantime. Are there any other kinds of games you like?

The same happened to me after finishing The Last of Us. I avoided western games during months afterward and then I broke the fastening with Tomb Raider reboot lol.

Yep, that's Dark Souls syndrome for you.

God of War doesn't have the same impact for me as Dark Souls but the game is still pretty good, glad you enjoyed it.

Same thing here. I finished it within a couple of days of launch and I've struggled to get interested in anything else. I've a couple of friends who feel the same. I had the same experience after I finished The Witcher 3.

It's not like there's not great games to play, it's just that I'm not interested in them. Everything feels like it's an open world with a massive checklist of busywork.

I've dived back in to my backlog trying to get into Darksiders, the Assassin's Creeds I've missed, The Evil Within series, Nioh, Quantum Break, Gears4, etc, but nothing sticks for longer than a couple of minutes. I'm spoiled for choice.

I waste my time playing Overwatch and GTAOnline most of the days when I'm not staring at my list of steam/psn games that I haven't played.

At first I thought OP meant while playing it, which is more or less what I felt. Not really unique enough to excite me.

You just need to play the opposite of a serious AAA single player action/adventure game as a palette cleanse, OP. Crash, Snake Pass, Tekken, Wipeout, Parappa, Tearaway, LBP. Never stop playing as many video games as possible.
