Out of touch? Quantum Break bombed and Alan Wake wasn't a smash hit, either. Seems like the "fans" spoke with their wallet. Sure, they could give them another go, but it would be a shot in the dark, it's not like everyone is asking for a new Alan Wake.
There has been plenty of people who asked for a new Alan Wake since it launched in 2010. The games sold well enough but they didn't sell several million like Microsoft wanted not to mention they don't have micro transactions which Microsoft also loves. If this were Sony we were talking about both of them would get sequels because they sold well enough to warrant them. Sony gave us more Knack and Gravity Rush after all. The fact is Microsoft just wants to stick to the same old things that they can monetize the hell out of.

Sad, but not surprising. Microsoft will be going all in with GaaS & online games in the upcoming years.

Alan Wake is okish but Quantum Break was just a bad game. I wouldn't fund a sequel to that either.

Not sure why MS would not want Alan Wake 2, I think it comes down to rights to the franchise and a tug of war in that regard. Microsoft would be silly to pass up on a psychological horror game, even with their multiplayer oriented games approach.

AW and QB should be on Game Pass.

Both were solid but underperforming games. Understandable that MS did not want to do more, especially now since Remedy have moved on and done a spinoff to their own game.

Don't need Quantum Break (because like people said that's what Control probably is) but Alan Wake was one of my favorite games of all time. The gameplay, the writing, the music, all of it was amazing to me.

Who is is backing Control, then?

505 games.

505 Games, a Digital Bros subsidiary, secures exclusive 20 year rights to the next game from Remedy Entertainment, renowned developer of AAA video games franchises, with an investment of €7.75 million.

Actually here's some more.

The Group will publish a brand-new game by contributing €7.75 million in development funding and providing marketing and publishing services through 505 Games for digital and retail versions worldwide. The agreement includes a payment of 45% royalties on net sales.

I got Alan Wake on PC, but I'm waiting till I have a better PC to play (I'm sure I can right now, but I want better settings). Definitely picking up Quantum Break when I get an XBX and I'm very interested in Control.

They (Remedy) should be allowed to dev a Max Payne game oriented to the first one. Would probably exceptionally visit the windows store for this.

Dissapointing. MS' reluctance to nurture IPs that dont sell 5 million out the gate is the biggest reason why there is such a gap between them and Sony right now.

This is a wrong comparison, making Knack and Gravity Rush would cost less than a linear-cinematic game from Remedy.
Just look at The Order 1886, same situation with QB, big AAA cinematic game with high costs in both development and marketing and both games didn't sell to warrant a sequel.

And Sony won't fund another The Order like MS won't fund another QB, it's the same situation.

and i Agree with MS

If they want a full fund then give me the IP in return

I don't blame Microsoft for wanting a piece of the pie, but I also don't blame Remedy for not wanting to relinquish control of something into which it sunk all of its Max Payne money. The stalemate, while unfortunate for fans (myself included), is understandable.

QB bombed, Alan Wake didn't sell a lot and fans are asking for more Forza, Gears and Halo and MS is delivering.

Give me a break.
Again pretty sure both of these did over a million units which is pretty good. The fact of the matter is they don't fit in the "games as a service" that Microsoft seems to only care about. And yes there are fans of those 3 franchises but there have been plenty of Xbox fans for years yelling for new IP and more variety from them. You must be one of those people who is fine with getting the same 3 franchises handed to you time and time again.

Quantum Break I can understand not wanting to and Control fits nicely there, but Alan Wake 2 could be a great game if they took it serious and got behind it.

The good thing with beeing a Xbox owner is that you can be pretty confident, that you will never run our of getting Forza, Gears and Halo, to bad that you dont get barely anything else :/

Never played Quantum Break, but I really liked Alan Wake, so this is a shame. Surprised that MS doesn't want to do a sequel since Phil keeps talking about created new exclusive franchises. Alan Wake is a game that has name recognition and was well-received. So, I am not sure why MS would not want to take a shot and back an exclusive sequel.

It would be a real kick in the pants if Remedy decided to make a sequel on PS4/PS5 (I believe that Remedy owns the IP) that ended up having success in light of MS seeming not wanting to support the IP.

You're comparing The Order to AW and QB? LOL did you see the reception The Order got? That is why Sony dropped it not because of sales. Quantum Break and Alan Wake were both actually well received and certainly better received than The Order. Not the same thing at all.

Big mistake to give Alan Wake rights to Microsoft. But when you are independent developer and want to make AAA game, some sacrifice must be made, but this is BIG one!

No way! I haven't heard that Max Payne is in the same universe. Are there easter eggs to be found in Alan Wake or Max Payne?

The series of books Alan had finished writing before the game took place were essentially Max Payne. The final chapter of the last book (in the New York flashback) you find is even read by James McCaffrey.

No, i'm fine with more Forza Horizon like i'm fine with more God of War a franchise handed time and time again and i have no problem playing God of War sequels. IDGAF about both Halo and Gears.
Who said 1 million is enough to warrant sequels? AW and QB weren't successfull, that's the sad truth and of course MS won't fund new sequels.

AW was well received like 10 years ago? QB MC is slightly better than The Order 1886 MC.
