Hi guys! I need to introduce myself.

I'm a big Shiina Ringo/Tokyo Jihen(RIP) fan, old and new. She's been my favorite musician by a long shot since I discovered her a little over ten years ago. I'm rather obnoxiously selective about which songs I like enough to listen to regularly -- most artists I only like 1-4 of their songs. With Shiina I have like ~50 of her songs in my usual rotation. She's just consistently in line with my musical sensibilities.

I also used to be big on Judy and Mary, though not as much these days (No, I haven't listened to Yui(Should I?)). And I listen to a fair amount of Omokage Lucky Hole as well.

Otherwise, besides the odd anime theme song here and there, I'm mostly blind to the world of Japanese music. I'd like to branch out!

I've been traveling this week and listening to the personalized recommendations from Google's music service. I have not had time to dig in and listen to any of the following artists in depth, but these are the ones that have caught my ear so far:

Lucky Tapes - Lady Blues (Song is SO catchy)
Aimyon - Ai o tsutaetaida toka (G R O O V Y. Probably my favorite I've heard this week)
Polkadot Stingray - TELECASTER STRIPE (I think it somewhat reminds me of Ringo's rockier stuff)https://youtu.be/3ad4NsEy1tg
Suchmos - 808 (Had me bobbing my head)
Gesu no Kiwami Otome - Kattena Seishungeki (It's just damned good. I don't know what else to say)
Indigo la End
DADARAY
(Maybe)
Passepied (Maybe)

I tend to be a sucker for anything with a jazz or funk element to it, but I'm open to a wide variety of genres. I saw someone early in the thread mention a bossa nova group called Lamp...I need to remember to check them out, too.

Honestly I'm surprised with how many different artists got my attention already; I feel like I'm off to a great start. Given what I've told you, are there any glaring gaps in my awareness that I need to know about?

Listen to Petrolz. Ukigomo (guitar & backing vocals) from Tokyo Jihens own band. They've got a funk rock thing going on.

Waiting for Band-Maid to announce the date for their UK gig later this year. Hoping they do it soon as it would be helpful to be able to book a hotel before they get even more expensive!

Formation for Keyakizaka's 7th single.
Tracklist :
アンビバレント/Ambivalent(Lead track)

Student Dance(All types, Kanji Keyaki)

I'm out(Type-A, Kanji Keyaki)

ハッピーオーラ/Happy Aura(Type-B, Hiragana Keyaki)

302号室/302gou shitsu(Type-C, Kobayashi/Habu unit)

音楽室に片想い/Ongakushitsu ni kataomoi (Type-D, Ozeki/Neru/Koike unit)

日が昇るまで/Hi ga noboru made (Regular type, Imaizumi solo)

They performed the lead track today at their big live event, song is described as an upbeat song, a cross between Abunakashii Keikaku and Glass wo Ware. Apparently the choreography is dope, Techi is like an acrobat according to people who saw it lol

Happy Aura? Sounds like a Hiragana Song. Looking forward to it :P
Wonder when we'll see Manaka make her comeback....

Keyakizaka's 7th single (radio rip)

So good. They really are the gift that keeps on giving

Nice. Lovin' all the different styles of music they're going with. Can't wait to see the MV.

Satō's solo EP teaser was a big bait and switch. That sounds just like modern きのこ帝国 =(

Yeah, Chiaki's solo EP is pretty good. It's like a throwback to early-00s pop. Signal being the standout for that comparison. The only song remotely sounding anything like Kinoko Teikoku is the beginning of Bedtime Eyes and I think maybe that was originally a demo for 明日にはすべてが終わるとして on the Eureka album.

I'm feeling a strong 8 on this one.

Didn't expect much but it's pretty great yeah. I especially like Summer Gate.

Excited for the new Kinoko Teikoku coming out in a couple of months. Still waiting for an album that surpasses my personal favorite Neko to Allergy (the latest one was still pretty neat, mind you)

Kika is currently streaming her trying to do 10000 squats for some reason, she's done over 5000 already.

BiS league voting ends, well, tomorrow in Japan, so I'm sure that's why

regardless, she's nuts and will probably injure herself in the process.

e: some weird song choices. Played some version of primal i've never heard and now an acapella BiSimulation
