I have a question for you guys...I'm considering trying Fortnite. I've had it downloaded for a while now but I never play it.

What's the best tip for a noob like myself? Start off in squads?

I've gotten 3 instances where I get the blue screen of death the instant I launch Fortnite. Has this happened to anyone else?

I really wish it wasn't possible to plop down a wall the frame after your last one was destroyed.

I found the new SMG, but at a glance it's hard to tell it apart from the silenced SMG. Didn't really notice a movement difference either.

Play solo. 4-8 people building in squads is overwhelming. Or try duos. Solo queing on pc is better but its a crap shoot on console because the console community is just trash. Too many kids, open mics, and jerks doing their own thing.

Wait for them to add playground, which is a sandbox mode. Good way to practice alone.

Reddit seems to complain about SMGs as if they are the new shotguns but I dont see it. This meta still feels better than the shotgun meta, but they seem to begging for shotgun buffs

I do understand the complaint of too many SMGs, but I feel the drum gun is a good fort destroyer. People seem to love build spamming and Im glad the meta is moving away from it

Still think semi auto should be vaulted.

50v50 is a good way to get started. Full of newcomers, lot of players covering you, low chances of dying early unless you drop in the middle or on the enemy's side, chaotic finishes with tons of high quality loot and major material gain that will allow you to fuck around with all kinds of items. It also gives you a hang of the building more, and gives a better showcase of what the game has to offer short term. Once you feel comfortable enough it's time to jump onto the other modes.

It's understandable that people are going to recommend 50v50 but much of the time it's just a chaotic mess that's difficult to contribute to. You'll win or lose the match without really understanding why ... it can feel entirely random.

I would recommend Solo. There's no knocking mechanic, so a kill is a kill. Every player you come across is on his own, so unless someone is cheating, it's a fair fight. The game mode is also very quick: If you die, you don't have to wait for someone to pick you up, or see how your squad did, you just go back to the lobby and play again. Solo is the essential Fortnite experience, you should give it a shot.

Keeps happening this season that landings are just bullshit. I have no idea if it is because of terrible field of view or something, but it never happened in S4 that I landed somewhere with no one around (I always look accurately before landing and I usually choose far away spots so I can definitely see anyone coming by) and I got jumped on. This season I already had 4 occasions where some people landed close and I could not see it despite looking well. Really annoying.

Well there's the added Gyro controls and I find myself dying way the hell faster now. It's quite annoying really. I can have the drop on players with a fucking LMG and they'll somehow kill me in 1 shot, or like 3 shots with a fucking PISTOL.

If anything is killing my enjoyment of the game right now it's the difficulty I'm now facing in almost every fire fight.

Not a fan of the new SMG, it kinda just reminds me of the Drum Gun so far. Definitely no Tac SMG, it's spread is way worse and using it like one didn't go so well for me.

Like I said, it actually isn't the best example. But I'm telling you it's irritating getting a few good shots in on a guy, shooting him first, dying, and finding out he had like 10hp left. It's happening too often.

I also had the much better weapon. How did he kill me so fast?

The Silence SMG is really good at that range. So your misses cost you really.

My wife was watching play last night in 50v50. I was with a large group of teammates in Pleasant Park, got in to a firefight, which we won, but I got knocked. At that point a teammate spent literally the entire time I was crawling messing with me. Building bounce pads, dancing, walling around me, starting and stopping revives, etc. He did nothing else until I was eliminated.

He didn't want the XP, ok, fine. He didn't have to revive me, I get it, but to spend two minutes trolling some stranger, Who has time for that shit?

SMG is more of an actual run-and-gun weapon that the Tommy. Quick burst of damage when in very close quarters combat. Definitely shorter range that the Tac, more of a shotty replacement.
I'll have to try it like that, I found the most success using it like I would the Drum Gun though, where I'd use it to finish off people turtling trying to heal, it was pretty good with that.

To anyone who's using the regular steel series QCK mouse pad, what dpi you think is the most optimal? Tried 800 but I had to lift the mouse too many times.

I'm now seeing Fortnite - Standard Founder's Pack for $19.99 on the PS Store. So, yep, I just had to wait for the store update.

Up to now I've been pretty much unable to estimate the positions of others by sound with my headphones on PS4. This may have been due to me using the Elite controller or because my headphones are just being difficult to drive, but I often ended up relying on friends to call out enemies.

Yesterday I decided I wanted to fix it by buying a small amp for my headphones. Didn't want to spend a lot of money so after a quick search I bought a Turtle Beach TAC as I found an almost new one for €70. At that price it's supposed to be pretty good.

I just tried it for 3 games and it really makes a difference; its weird suddenly being able to guess where people are without seeing them :D I think I will need to get used to it to actually fully use it to my advantage, but first impression is positive. I will say that all of their presets are terrible, really really terrible, but the default option and actually turning off the sound processing give a nice 'surround' feeling. Just don't expect audiophile quality, the 'Superhuman' and 'Footstep' settings will give you headaches in minutes.

Some people are so accurate at knowing your position that I sometimes suspect foul play such as wall hacks.

I hope it's just poeple with good headsets and an ear for pin pointing people.

My headset is 20 bucks from Walmart and I can hear everything. Wonder how many times people think I cheat.

I've never been able to hear if people are above me or below either, now I at least have an idea. If you watch many of the streams they often pickup where people are right away, even from a far. I always thought this was learned through experience, as there was no way I was able to do that with my previous setup. Now my guess is they just have a good sound card in their PC's. This Turtle Beach amp is by no means perfect but it does seem to help compared to what I had previously. There must be better options out there that work even better.

I turned off sounds in game and I am doing so much better now. If you turn off sounds in the options it gives you visual cues instead. No one can ever sneak up on you again.
