Inspired by the Jeff Bezos thread.

Watched this video and it was pretty convincing in stating that the first trillionaire will be the person who first mines asteroids for their natural resources.

Yeah, asteroid mining sounds like a good bet.

The more available the resources are the lower in price they'll go.

We'll get our first trillionaire in the next century or two from inflation alone.

A trillion in 2018 dollars? Not sure if it will ever happen. Maybe if someone can get a monopoly on space mining like Rockefeller had on oil but even then it would be a stretch i think.

Health Care Related Industries. The first person/company to "cure cancer" will be rolling in it.

(Yes I know you can't cure cancer like a traditional ailment, but if some company could effectively treat blood borne cancer they might be able to funnel that treatment into cancer cell development disruption, curing marrow cancers, etc.)

I will not bet on a specific industry. I will bet on some privately-owned conglomerate that gobbles up corporations during economic downturns. A good chance they will control some governments as well. We wouldn't even know who they were.

I immediately thought of Asteroid mining, so I'm glad to see I've already been beaten by the OP. Even if it cost billions of dollars to mine an asteroid, the profit would be in the trillions, so whoever ends up pioneering that would end up being stinking rich.

If you can mine asteroids and gain such a fortune, chances are whatever you mine is becoming so common that it is practically worthless.

Hard to say, my bet would be a specific form of automation and/or efficient labor method. Probably androids, ultra efficient robots, or high-capacity work drones. Something that would make building things unrealistic or really expensive practically danger-free (for humans) and super fast.

It would probably open the floodgates to stuff like space-elevators and orbital ship docks and then the real explosion in industry (asteroid mining, solar system travel, Mars and moon colonization) would occur.
