yea I understand people being worried about the upcoming elections but unless you have some data that shows people staying home from voting because they think their party has it in the bag, it's just weird paranoia.

I sure hope that's the case. 2016 seemed like a lock for Hillary as well, and that didn't seem to encourage people to vote in swing states.
Nothing matters, though. This will all evaporate in a week when the next story comes out. Twitter burns and Anderson Cooper burns and not in office republicans calling out the president don't actually matter. We're in this until 2020 at very least.

It's not how it works. Enthusiasm means more people vote, not fewer. "We got this" isn't because we see positive polls, positive polls are seeing huge swings in special elections, massive turnout in primaries, record numbers of Dems running, record numbers of Republicans retiring, huge interest and enthusiasm from Dem voters, terrible approval ratings for Trump, and major issues like healthcare favouring the Dems overwhelmingly.

That's a terrible lesson to take away from this, as it implies that playing dirty is necessary. The fault wasn't in not playing dirty, the fault was in not anticipating how badly a large group of Americans would react to a black President and the extent to which they were willing to damage the nation as a part of that reaction.
In a way, I think it was necessary to out these garbage people and have them actively participate so that we can shut them down more effectively.

As much as people are freaking out, I don't think they're freaking out enough. Too many people are assuming he's an idiot being played. Could definitely be true, but it could also be that Putin offered to help further rig elections in the US and put in steps to make him president for life.
Romney was terrible in many ways, but I must give him credit for calling out the threat Russia was growing into.
You knows what's really fucked up? Putin probably only had some mundane compromat on Trump that was slightly embarrassing until he decided to run for President. That's when things really escalated on the treason.

Russia was always there. That wasn't foresight from Romney, it was observing reality at the damn time.
