"At Gamescom 2015, Microsoft announced Dave Jones as creative director of a company called ReAgent Games. Jones, whose last high-profile video game was the failed MMO APB"

This alone should have been the biggest red flag in the history of the universe. I would have jumped ship before he'd even have time to blink.

Yeah I really have no hope of this game being good. I'll try it since it will be on Game Pass but I really have a low expectation for it. I'm sure even if it turns out bad though we'll hear people celebrating that it ends up having 2 million players in the first couple weeks. Still irritates me that people think the way State of Decay 2 and SoT turned out was acceptable just b/d they ended up with large player bases due to Game Pass.

Has there been any gameplay of this since E3? I still find it hard to believe this game is coming out in February when they don't seem to want to show it.

I really want to play this, it's sad it's taking so long.
It's slightly disconcerting to read some of the comments from Dave Jones re: the cloud tech, but for me The multiplayer stuff has never really been a focus.
Multiplayer was a gimmick in 2 and it wasn't particularly fun, having destructible buildings will be fun for all of half an hour.

It's suffering from the same thing as Dreams, which Predates crackdown by a year or 2 . Cool tech, but how do you use it in a game?

It had a release date now, probably beat to see how it turns out instead of declaring it dead.

Giantbomb Infinite replayed the 2017 Microsoft E3 conference at one point acouple months back and I remember thinking "Oh right, Crackdown was supposed to be an X launch title. Man, crazy it's still not out."

And Jesus, it's still not fucking coming out anytime soon.

It's a UK team(s) so I'm guessing they have first hand knowledge and talk to the devs.
Indeed, Eurogamer are pro UK development and are not bad mouthing Sumo here at all.

I'm worried for the team if they're indeed being worked to death in ever lasting crunch on a project whose scope was beyond them for reason outside of their control.

Never understand people open a thread about some article but then never post the full article in the thread, just "highlighting" some of part that OP think it's important.

I think it will come out and I think it will be a fun game but I also think it will only be a 7/10 at most.

Unless they can pull off a miracle and make it something really special, which seems unlikely with all the problems the game has had.

The destructible environments not being in single player killed the only appeal this game would have to me.

I would never play a crackdown multiplayer mode.

Well in case of State of Decay, actually many people actually bought it, if I am not wrong, it was first game by revenue in last month NPD. And now it has tacky "Join over 3 milions players on cover, at least on GamePass page. Anyway, hopefully now that MS actually bought some studios, their quality of output hopefully increases.

And as for SoT, I know I am going sound crazy, but it's one of my favorite releases this year, since there is probably nothing better for chilling with friends after long day, I like the game like this exists.
Would I play it alone tho? Fuck no.

Why this irritates you I have no idea but both games sold great.

The game looks fun but it really doesn't look like it's the kind of game that maintains a lot of mindshare for very long. I get the same feeling from this game as I get from Saints Row 4 - fun while it lasts but don't force me to think too long about it. Crackdown 3 has been asking of me to think about it for years, and it's not even out yet.

Plus, the games were far and away from what I would call must-plays, and the protracted development time of the game does not feel like it reflects on the pedigree of this series. It had one good game and one incredibly mediocre one. It feels like the only reason it's being salvaged is because it's one of the few "somewhat bigger" Microsoft-owned IPs they have left that they still haven't pushed out yet, and was announced at a time when people were concerned about the first party output.

Its important that people go to the site to check the article in full so they generate ad revenue and are paid for their work, its why we only post highlights, enough to start a discussion.

I think it will be fine in the sense that it's like State of Decay 2, a more of the same which is fine if you liked the previous games.

If you wanted the original cloud based concept, you'll be disappointed since i think they scrapped that entirely.

I don't think so when era's quote feature done really good.

As long as you don't click the quote, you won't get wall of texts throw to your face.

Well if there's rule about that, then alright.

The whole point is to not post a whole article as you're essentially taking traffic from the source. It's not ethical. The length of the article isn't the issue.

Wow. I played APB for a brief time. Yeah, that was bad.

The 'ethics' is not about how it'll annoy people with wall of text. It's to give the content creator some clicks if people are interested enough to read the full article. They deserve it.

Intresting.

Talking of leadership, Microsoft has pushed Ken Lobb, who is perhaps best known for working with Rare on GoldenEye for the Nintendo 64 in the mid '90s, to lead the management of Crackdown 3 and provide the developers with a focal point for decision-making.

It's not about walls of text it's about making sure journalists get the clicks for articles they've worked hard on.

Dave Jones created Crackdown in the first place. He also developed a number of very good games over his career, including Lemmings and Grand Theft Auto.

It's that way so that content creators get traffic, else, well those content creators go away. They deserve the traffic, if you find the article interesting.

It's not about textwalls. It's about giving the sites that wrote it some clicks when they deserve it. This is one of those times.

Then i hope this time most people do click and read it unlike last 32767 times.

Did they? Both of them fell out of the sales charts pretty fast. State of Decay 2 is still too recent to know how it will do in the US but it's been out of the UK charts for awhile now. When we actually get some solid sales numbers instead of player numbers let me know.

Crackdown 3 was touted as a game using cloud computing as well as (massive?) multiplayer modes. APB is one of the worse example out there and I'm not sure how his pedigree is going to shield him from how much of a flaming trainwreck something he had attempted before (sans cloud computing) was despite having a funding of 100M$. I don't think being the creator of Lemmings has much relevance to what's at hand, even though I consider Lemmings to be a damn fine game.

Trailer looked good though. No way this gets cancelled. They had Terry Crews coming in doing all the voice work.

The Milky Way
It was announced before it was even in full development, even a year after it was announced we were only seeing pre-alpha gameplay.

That will have created an immense amount of pressure on the team from such an early stage.

But in reality, the game will have had a 4-5 year development cycle, which is pretty much the norm this gen. This just highlights the issue with announcing a game too early, and creating such high expectations with a bullshit video demonstrating things you can't even guarantee will be in your final product.

Why player numbers isn't solid numbers when how many people could play with you(or battle against you) is one of important part for both games.

Dave Jones was head of cloudgine. His purpose was the cloud technology stuff .Not the actual multiplayer

Then cloudgine was bought by epic so they must have been pretty impressed by their work.

Just think it's daft completely ruling someone off for 1 bad game when he's had 3 good to amazing games under his belt before that .
