Lmao

Ok he's a moron for this

I hope people who are shitting on this and then turn around and make similarly styled generalized ad hominem attacks on people they argue with or disagree with politically show some consistency though, people do this every day and just don't realize it because they're cheering for the person they agree with.

Elon is in the wrong here, but why did the guy feel the need to call out Musk? If anything, Musk brought more attention to the boys and not the other way around.

At least now all those weird little nerds who treat him like iron man can finally shut up. If you can't see it by now I'm just going to assume you're like him.

Couldn't the diver sue for slander or something? That's a pretty bad thing to accuse someone of so publicly.

On a slightly less crass note, I am actually curious to find out if that sub could have actually made it to the kids.

Mostly because if it doesn't work then man-oh-man he will look lile a moron.

People were already paying attention to it before he offered help, and rescue efforts were already underway before he sent his weird nylon pod thing.

I think he was asked about it in an interview, I can't confirm that though. Also there was mountains of global attention on this before Musk, Musk became involved because of how big a story it had become (I'm not painting that as a negative, just that it happened in that order).

They explain why at a certain point publicity and attention is not helpful, but can be counterproductive. Once the Thai Navy SEALS were there it wasn't like they were just going to pack it up and go home because it wasn't a big enough news story.

Holy shit what is wrong with you.
Musk is a household name and his involvement probably brought more eyes and support to the cause.

He's trash for making the accusation, but why did the guy feel the need to initially call him out. Just curious about his thought process.

I'm not defending Musk, so don't try to hang that on me.

Why did the boys need any attention when the situation was already attended by emergency services.

He's calling out Musk for using the situation as a PR stunt because he thinks his solution is stupid beyond belief and would have zero practical use in their situation.

But when the whole world is watching, it applies extra positive pressure in my opinion.

At this point I feel like we can get Musk to do anything by saying to him on Twitter that he's not capable of doing it.

Did you read the posts I mentioned?
They go through specific reasons why it's not "positive pressure", but instead additional distractions and wasted efforts. The rescuers typically know what to do and how to do it, so they need others to get the fuck out of the way, not have tons of people with their own uneducated ideas and their attempts at grandstanding.

So he couldn't shut his mouth after everything that came out this past week and wanted to keep digging.

Yeah the guy is an asshole as proven before.

Social media erases the barrier between the public and you. Anyone can look decent in PR or carefully tailored interviews. But remove the filter and get the straight source, shit can change

Yeah, for better or worse social media can do that.

just wondering what's happened to him in the last year or so that's made him be all "Just going to completely fuck my public image up" though

I never had a good feeling about Musk while every person fawned over him. It's good to see it validated.

So to recap what has happened after the rescue took place, (Please correct me if I'm wrong):

  • The chief of rescue operations Narongsak Osotthanakorn basically says Elon's sub was impractical and wouldn't have worked
  • Elon fires back with correspondance from Dick Stanton, a rescue diver involved in the rescue to prove he designed this sub after being asked to do so. He also uses this moment to discredit Narongsak Osotthanakorn as any sort of expert on the matter, saying instead that the divers were the real experts on the operation
  • Dick Stanton would later, through a spokesman, also agree that the sub wouldn't have worked
  • Another diver involved in the operation says that the Sub says the sub was worthless, "a PR stunt. It had no chance of working"
  • Elon calls this diver a pedophile in an attempt to discredit him
  • Has doubled down on insults and vowed to video the sub making its way to the chamber where the boys were rescued
  • Has since doubled down on recreating the cave rescue using his sub, will record a video of it making its way to the chamber where the children were stuck and then back

But I was not paying attention to this until Musk inserted himself into the situation, so it has to be a net positive, right?

(part of me really wants him to "Prove them wrong!" by using his sub in the cave and getting stuck and needing rescue himself)

You forgot the part where Dick Stanton also had his spokesman say that the sub was not suitable for the mission, on the 10th if I recall correctly.

He's not a moron. He just thinks that because he's smart and rich he gets to act like a dickhead.
He's not a moron, but he has no emotional intelligence, tact or understanding of how he comes across. I guess having true believer followers and being treated like the second coming probably contributes to that.
