It doesn't feel as good to me using the d-pad. I usually prefer it for side-scrollers, but not with Celeste.
Do Celeste's controls feel as "floaty" and "twitchy" as Super Meat Boy? Comparisons to that game have been the biggest deterrent for me getting the game, as I really couldn't get into Super Meat Boy due to not liking its controls combined with its high difficulty level. I really wanted to like Super Meat Boy (and can certainly appreciate many things about it), too, as The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth was such an amazing game. I'm afraid that Celeste will be similar for me...It's much closer to Super Meat Boy and The End Is Nigh, if you've played either of those.
I really did not like Super meat boy. Celeste is a masterpiece.Do Celeste's controls feel as "floaty" and "twitchy" as Super Meat Boy? Not at all, I have the same issues with SMB but Celeste controls more like a classic platformer. It's still really hard but I never died because of the controls.Do Celeste's controls feel as "floaty" and "twitchy" as Super Meat Boy?
I hate meat boy. I hate splasher. I hate that floaty shit.Do Celeste's controls feel as "floaty" and "twitchy" as Super Meat Boy? The Switch has had considerably more well-reviewed games this year than either the PS4 or Xbox One... AND Celeste still leads the pack. It won't win (clearly that honor will go to God of War or, if it actually gets released, RDR2) but a slew of nominations should definitely be in the cards. It's an amazing game, and I might even call it an all time classic. I hope it gets the attention it deserves at GOTY time.
One of the largest time saving skips is actually a developer intended one, and it requires you to use one of the more advance move techniques you can do.One of the best platformers of all time. I love how the devs support the speedrunning community too (they talked about so many bugfixes specifically to enable better running at SGDQ).
I think the C-sides were probably the weakest part of the game since they felt more like SMB levels than Celeste levels.
The analog sticks register in the right directions (and if they truly aren't that's on the controller), there's simply a base challenge to consistently hit diagonals that you don't typically get in platformers. Next time you think the game dropped or misread an input, look down at your thumb and you'll likely find you weren't actually concretely holding the direction you thought you were.I really wanted to like Celeste more than I did but a combination of the analogue stick inputs not registering the right directions, the level gimmicks getting increasingly unfun and me not really caring for the story left me quite cold.

I really need to buy this game.
Once I'm done with hollow knight maybe
I'm aware of that. Was simply pointing out its relative strength on the platform that's having the best year in terms of critical reception.

Was designed for the analog stick, so that's what I use too.
