This more than likely also has something to do with couples having babies much later in life as well.

Last year more women in their 30s gave birth to babies than women in their 20s. Keep in mind in 1970 the average age of a woman having a child was 21.

That's going to severely change the total number of kids people are having
This is a good point. I was reading a study recently that was essentially saying that the average age for first child has increased across all demographics. More and more women are starting families after their peak fertility years, but if delaying pregnancy is due to lack of funds, then it still circles back to money being the root cause.

Maybe a lot of people are waiting to have kids with current political issues and economy can you see why?

As far as the data I've seen, its not that millennials don't want as many children. I think the desired fertility rate has hardly changed at all. It's that millennials are waiting to have kids, and struggling to afford them.

I remember being worried about overpopulation but nowadays I think it could actually sort itself out. Seems like a win-win to me. I've had my 2 and I'm done.

Have a few friends that wanted a big family. After having 1 they dialed it back a bit and might only have one more or stop altogether.

My wife and I only want two. See what happens.

I don't get people that have these big 5 kid families and then struggle financially and sacrifice their life with work to pay the bills.

Even having two children is selfish for the environment honestly, 3 children is even worse. The reason is though is because nobody can afford three children anymore, millenials are all struggling to get by as it is as wages haven't risen to cobat inflation in a very long time (especially in the UK)

As a middle child, my value just shot up exponentially. I always knew we were special!

I plan on having like 4 kids tho. Does that mean 2 middle children? Or do I need to have an odd number?
Sorry to let you know. There is a recall for all middle children, you must go back to the factory.

Older siblings all sighing in relief, knowing that the middle child is always the most loved.

I think we really need to start seeing more articles talking about how Millennials are getting killed by Boomers. The root cause of a lot of these so-called Millennial-Killing actions is pure economic survival in an economy created by Boomers with no regard for long term consequences.

"In 1960, the cost of raising a child was about $198,560. In 2013, it shot up to $245,340."

That... Doesn't seem like all that big of an increase over that span of time to me?

Regardless, I'm just not having any kids. More me time, more me money.

It makes me laugh that people aren't having a third child but the headline sounds like they are skipping the second born. Classic.

Yeah, definitely not having three kids. I can barely afford the one I have. Can you imagine having three kids in childcare? By my calculations that's roughly a million dollars a year.

I can't imagine wanting three children. Two? Sure. Three seems a bit much though.

Only having two kids seems like kinda the natural "evolution" of not having so many people die in childhood. Once you're sure all your kids have a decent chance making it past the age of 18, the number of kids you need to have drops off dramatically.
It happens when your dad wants a daughter, but keeps getting boys. It took him till his fourth try to finally get a girl.

This might be true.

I hardly want a child, let alone three of them.

However, I still find people around my age who have 3-5 children. My brother in law already have 4, and my friend from high school is having his 5th soon.

Two kids is too high a chance of 100% being **** ups.

More kids means more chances I'll have at least one good kid and grandchildren who'll be able to take care of me when I'm old. It's an investment. Two kids is too high a chance all my time and money will be wasted on some idiot who thinks he can invest all his money in his gastropub dream or some dumb girl who wastes her life on some idiot who wastes all his money on his microbrewery (it's gonna work, all it'll take is hard work and desire). Besides, more kids means more people to bug with long phone calls on Saturday. Gotta have some entertainment when I get old.

Count me in on not understanding why anyone would have three kids. The first kid was the surprise/accident. The second kid was planned. After that, maybe get a dog?

We're just trending towards replacement rate, which is good in the long-run.
