Interesting stats accumulated by Perfectly Nintendo and at this rate the system will hit 1000 in around 2-3 months.

But the Switch has no games, so this must be fake.

This is pretty much why all the lesser known indies get buried on the e-shop, there's so many new releases that unless you're a standout game like Hollow Knight or Shovel Knight or Shantae or whatever, it's hard to get noticed.

What a difference. I know Reggie used to say it's all about quality not quantity.

Seems a pretty good list but I don't understand this:

Square-Enix – 10 (2017: 7 / 2018: 8)

Why is Square Enix listed with 10 instead of 15? lol And that's happening with other pubs as well.

There's like 6 categories with 30 games each on the front page - that's still a significant percentage of the entire catalogue even accounting for overlap.

Nice work compiling all this L~A (assuming it's him)

What the fuck...
They do all the Neo Geo and Arcade ports.

758 games on Wii-U? Is that including the Virtual Console?

Nope, that's without Virtual Console. With Virtual Console it would be 1239 games (if we use the region with more games released on Virtual Console AKA Japan).

Nintendo surely wants to become the Steam of consoles admitting lots of games. Sure, lots of remasters, ports, indies.. .But when the barrel of good and decent games runs out, we're starting to get the crappy games and it will get the same complaints lesser known develeopers have about Valve letting lots of subpar quality games in the storefront.

I mean, during years, little developers praised the lack of games on Wii U and Switch that made their games attractive and that can change in just six months.

And outside of Lumines and Hollow Knight, all I've bought are games from Nintendo. Thanks to not owning a Wii U, my Switch library is pretty damn awesome after only a year. Other than some glaring OS issues, the Switch is probably having the best first two years of any console I've ever owned.

Maybe they should curate their store a bit.

That's how this goes right? Or is that just for steam.

For a system relatively young, this is most impressive. The Switch has revived my inner Nintendo fan, who has been asleep for too many years.

I don't think we're at that point yet. The percentage of poor games is still quite small, and Nintendo have already said they aren't going to dramatically increase the rate of releases any time soon.

Was casually browsing the eshop and this doesn't surprise me.

Its nearing Steam quality/quantity levels on there.

Its surprising to me how many games the new(er) systems actually have. I just checked the european PS Store on my PS4 in comparison, and it has 2775 entries (this includes season pass and bundles as well, but the majority should be unique games). Wouldnt be surprised if Xbox One has a relatively similar number, and Switch might reach somewhere around that number eventually.

They released far too many high quality games in June, I've only just got round to Octo Expansion and Hollow Knight despite getting them both the day they came out. There's no short supply of quality, I just wish they spread things out a bit more.

I've not even been able to properly dive into Fortnite with all the other stuff going on.

It's dumb for Steam as well.

Eh the reality is if you're going to have a pretty open storefront there's only so much you can do with the garbage ratio. What steam doesn't get enough credit for are all the tools it has to help sift through it as well as ease of searching for things. Like if I want to check dlc for a game I have I go to my library, click on the game and hit the dlc button on the side and I get taken to a page with all of the game's dlc as well as steam marking which ones I have already and which are on my wishlist, which makes it easier to find certain dlc I want and skip all the other crap (looking at you Paradox games). Not to mention the discovery queue and the store automatically tailoring itself based on what I've clicked on, which is the reason why I don't see most of the shit Jim Sterling whines about routinely.

It's far from perfect but as these consoles keep moving to open their gates a bit more and letting everything in, their lack of options to help people sift through it all really show up. That goes for all consoles not just Switch.

Honest question, as I do not own a switch, how much of it is shovelware?

No more or less than we see on a weekly basis on the XBO and PS4 stores.

But Switch has seen tons of ports every week of the best of XBO/PS4/Steam indie games from the past five years, from Inside to Axiom Verge, which has really helped boost its tally so quickly. It also helps that many of these are really good games and not always previously available in portable format either.

Clearly the rate will slow down on Switch as sooner rather than later it'll be relying on new games on a weekly basis as there are only so many developers in the world. That said, as we get to that stage we may see Nintendo starting to release their classic games on a weekly basis, in place of a Virtual Console equivalent.

According to Wikipedia, 3DS has around 1285 games.

With Nintendo releasing 15-25 games per week, it looks like Switch will catch up quickly to the 3DS library too.

Indeed. Fact of the matter is the majority of games hitting the eshop are garbage, and the actual good games are being hidden amongst the crap. Reminds me of a mobile storefront. The eshop in its current state is not helping anyone.

Please, don't say that majority of games are garbage if you haven't played them. You only see the rectangle picture and review the entire game on 1 second.

Anyone apart.. All the indie devs that are seeing the switch as a great success for their productions...
