that parody post was great. great comedic timing

he also made another one that deserves more recognition:
Time for a wakeup call: Pennello is a filthy liar and a criminal.

He is full of Orwellian doublespeak straight from 1984. Either Microsoft has brainwashed him or he's deliberately lying on their behalf. I cannot believe Square is doing business with them. It disgusts me, to the core, and it's only a matter of time until the Japanese public shun them as outcasts. This has happened to businesses before.

My friend Mark described a general scenario to me that I agree with. Picture this: you have a product that people want. This product has the potential to sell a great deal, but it requires a multimedia electronic system to operate. Do you develop the product for a company that has honor and will treat you with respect, or do you develop the product for a company that has none and will throw you to the dogs after they've made their buck?

(I'm talking about Microsoft and Sony in that analogy)

Microsoft will betray Square. Final Fantasy XIII will not sell to an American audience, and then Square is stuck with the Japanese they betrayed. Checkmate. All in Microsoft's plan. The fallout from this is going to be HUGE and Square is about to see it. I can see the writing on the wall. I'm surprised some of you can't.

I hate to see Square fall this hard.

More than this hilarious post from muppet, i really love recalling the archived neogaf e3 thread of the Megaton announcement and the immediate reactions. it fills me with life.

Be it satire or not why does it seem lost on everyone that Square kinda actually shot themselves? It was since then that Square never reached the heights of the old Square

Feel free to explain to me how not tying themselves to a failing platform "shot themselves in the foot"

3rd Parties are in the business of selling Games, not Consoles.

Yeah, it's genuinely impressive how many people got taken in by this. Really great work on the writer's part.

Ironic part though is that looking back, that period did actually mark the start of Square-Enix's pretty dramatic fall from grace which they are still struggling to recover from even now, so maybe the guy was onto something without realising it lol.

In lieu of this thread, I'm doing a presentation this week on Hideo Kojima for one of my college classes, and I was wondering would I call him Mr. Hideo Kojima-San or Hideo Kojima-San. I realize the Mr. sounds redundant but this is for an American college class so I don't know if they'd understand just the "San" but I also want to appear to be an expert.

Tying themselves to a failing platform where FF13 sold more than twice as on 360?

Either way that's irrelevant, my point is, whatever the reason actually was, it was from that point that Square went to shit, they were never the same Square

It wasn't satire, was it? I remember them making a few other posts defending it.

Didn't a version of it, or part of the post make into into Persona 4 Golden? I seem to remember that being a thing, but a quick google search came up with nothing.

I can't believe I've spent the last 10 years reading gaming forums on the internet...

My name's Kevin Snow. Some nonfiction I'm proud of was my Frostpunk piece on Waypoint back in May. Fiction-wise, I just make games and write freelance. I've yet to write for anything published by Square Enix, but it'll be pretty funny if I do one day.

Didn't sign up to promote myself, though, or have a horse in the satire/not satire race, as I don't want to ruin it for anyone (I can also verify my identity if anyone cares that much). I'm glad people fondly remember that post. Game messageboards were outrageous in the 2000s. Regardless of your opinion, the post could have been real in that environment.

Persona 4 & the Smash announcer were absolutely the peak. I think there might have been a reference in the Mii Plaza "Slot Racer" game, too, but I didn't save the screenshot someone took. I also have a shirt someone made of a gun pointing toward a shoe, although I'm less fond of it now because it has the old website logo.
Ohh, the living legend themself! Thanks for your classic. Have repurposed it several times in the last years and got hilarious reactions from people who didn't know it was a copypasta :D

EDIT: Lol, just as I was posting I saw another remix of it:
Ubisoft just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about gamer culture (I'm an expert), but racism and hate speech are huge parts of it. It's exactly like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you cant drop a N-bomb on Siege, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the gamer public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Siege for any system, nor will they purchase any of Ubisoft's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Ubisoft has alienated an entire market with this move.

Ubisoft, publicly apologize and announce racial slurs for Siege or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Oh man honestly it's still crazy today. Crazy opinions still abound.

Welcome to Era though! Cool you have an account now.

I wonder if the console market was the same back then as to how it is now, if we would have seen xiii still come on the 360. I mean vii remake is still not confirmed for the Xbox

I think we're also coming up on 10 years since the "for or against" thread for Too Human (we didn't pass the anniversary, did we?). Not sure if it'll be the greatest idea to make a thread on that one though lol.

I also wonder if Muppet345 is on Era in any way. His name isn't coming up in the search engine.

MY GOD WTF
i always wanted to know why he lost the 'mod' status but the plot intensified o.O
Actually I think the demodding was because he went back and retroactively edited some posts that had been called out, then showed the posts as proof that "he never said x". Wanna say that since he was a mod it didn't show the edit window on the bottom like it would for normal posters. But someone caught him wih photos of his pre-tampered post. That had his mod status taken away. The total ban was because of, well, that.

Not trying to derail entire thread, sorry about that. Was going to just PM, but figured this was a big enough deal to clarify in the thread itself.

Funnily enough I actually saw Kagari at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told her how cool it was to meet her in person, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother her and ask her for photos or anything.

She said, "Oh, like you're doing now?"

I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but she kept cutting me off and going "huh? huh? huh?" and closing her hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard her chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw her trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in her hands without paying.

The guy at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Madam, you need to pay for those first." At first she kept pretending to be tired and not hear him, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When he took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, she stopped him and told him to scan them each individually "to prevent any electrical infetterence," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a word. After he scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, she kept interrupting him by yawning really loudly.

Apparently not. This was posted earlier in the thread:

Oh wow, thanks for the link.

Confirmed that the post was satire by the man himself. Kinda sad. Would've been funnier if it was serious, but oh well. :p

Are you For, or Against making that thread haha.. wow we're ancient

Haha I wasn't actually around on GAF at the time. I was way too young and that was before I even used the Internet, let alone know what GAF even was.

Oh man, I remember that day playing Runescape in Falador seeing spams of FF13 on 360.

Made a Hitler's reaction soon after. Damn 10 years.

Eh, he obviously will claim forever that embarrassment of a post was satire, for those of us who were there, we know that kind of stupid shit was posted for weeks, to be fair, he was not the only one, but definetly memorable.

For those speculating he has posted in this thread lol

Denial is a powerful thing. I'm not sure why so many people think this is more likely than some guy made a joke on the internet.

If you looked at his posting history he mostly posted about xbox games. Not to mention that multiple people on this forum and the old are saying they helped him make the post.

I find old Forum lore so interesting. Legendary members that are long gone, threads that sprung out of control, ban-waves, controversy... And, sometimes, brilliant satire. Bravo!

I see it more as our community lore

I was a little apprehensive about making this thread as I know the rules about discussing the old place, but the old place is just a URL

We're still the same community, and there were a lot of things pre-split that I think are still worth celebrating/remembering.

I agree with the forums stance on discussing anything to do with the old place post-split, as it's simply not necessary or productive, but I'm glad it looks like this thread will be allowed to remain open
