Not even..

The reason why Dark Knight is great, all the actors did and AMAZING JOB, I don't know if this Marvel studios but Chris Evan's performance as Steve Rogers is bland, you watch his movies outside MCU and the guy can act, go watch Gifted and you will see a completely different actor from his Marvel character...

Opinions...

Good god I feel old. I saw this like 4 times in the cinemas, with the first time being my very first Imax movie too.

No. I mean The Dark Knight Rises is an incoherent movie, muddled with political themes that run against itself, and is a movie on par with the worst James Bond films. It's a muddled mess, a political movie that places the prisoners of Gotham on par with the Occupy Wall-street movement

Not this again.

Occupy began in September 2011. TDKR *filmed* from May - November 2011. It wasn't written as the movement took shape. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Occupy Wall Street and is not commenting on it in the slightest.

The only genuinely great comic film. Deserved A Best Picture nomination. A tier above anything else from Marvel and DC.

Batman Begins will always be my favourite of the three as it hit me in my mid-teens and made the idea of Batman incredibly real but The Dark Knight is a fabulously constructed sequel. Building on the strength of the first and taking the story to dark and surprising yet inevitable places. Still hold up.

There was a time - because of these films - where Marvel films seemed like a flash in the pan. Think about that, these films made the early days of the MCU seem mostly reactionary and almost crass.

I doubt we will see films quite like these again.

The Dark Knight: The movie that made comic fans, who probably don't watch a lot of movies, think they're serious film critics now.

Movie came out on my 19th birthday.

I watched it 6 times in theaters during its opening week.

Love it more every time I get around to watching it. It's perfect in every way to me, and is still my favorite film of all time, as it was as I walked out of that theater after the first showing.

Also cant forget the legendary viral marketing. Didnt live close enough to participate but following progress on the internet was riveting. It was probably the first movie ever that I followed closely pre-release.

Saw this in the theater and absolutely loved it. I remember seeing Joker avatars and quotes everywhere on the internet for a good while after, heh. Still my favourite comic book movie.

It's easy to be cynical but I still think it's the best Batman movie.

Ledger's performance is electrifying and perfectly complements the seriousness of Baleman. Harvey Dent and Jim Gordon are all really well fleshed out too, as is Gotham's World of Crime.

The Bank Robbery, Hong Kong, Pencil, Party, Trucks and Hospital all stick in my mind just for their visuals, pacing, intent and action.

It's what you'd want from a sequel.

One of my favorite cinematic experiences was seeing this the Tuesday before it came out. I just barely made it onto the sneak peek list to see it at an IMAX theater. After the movie was over, I was overwhelmed at the experience of seeing it on the huge screen with Batman super fans. Now I see almost every big movie on IMAX but it was special back then. I called my brother to talk to him about it.

Ledger's performance is one of the greatest.

Probably the first movie I can remember where my theater had showings goings-on throughout the whole night.

Great movie, it's a great ride (if not overly long), blew my mind in the theater, but these days it's hard for me to take the dialogue seriously. Ledger's Joker performance, and most of his lines, are pure fucking gold. Without him, I think the movie would not have been nearly as praised.

Every other character sounds totally unnatural. Or maybe it's that they treat the audience like idiots. The lines are bad. So much time is devoted to explaining what's going on, even thematically. Alfred explains the Joker, Gordon explains the Joker, Joker explains himself, Batman explains his dilemma, Joker explains Batman's dilemma, Harvey explains all of his actions, Gordon explains his ruse (which made no sense and was just there to cheaply get the audience to cheer), Gordon explains the fucking title of the movie--problem is, just because you explain something doesn't mean it makes sense, especially in Harvey's case.

I'd say it deserves high praise in genre, but so many would say it's because it isn't in the superhero genre that makes it so good. Okay.

Mafia/Joker stuff are the only things I find enjoyable.
Frankly Batman is boring in it.

Still remains the best superhero movie for me as well. Having Nolan dig into the Michael Mann-well (not just the city shots but also the way the GCPD communicates changed so much from Begins as well, Gordon turned into the same no-nonsense all professional type of character you'd see in stuff like Heat or Miami Vice) and apply it to a Batman flick made for something stylistically above and beyond other cape flicks for me. I love it.

the 20 minute or so stretch from the chase scene with the Joker straight through to Rachel's death is top tier suspense for the genre as well.

shit like this and Logan is why I think there's a very strong case for making some superhero stuff outside of "Cinematic Universes".

Joker is the only entertaining thing in the whole movie. Little to no rewatch value due to the boring story and pacing issues. Still better than anything from DCEU, though.

Agreed. Watched this again recently after seeing it a few times 9-10 years ago when it was released in theaters and then on dvd.

It's a slog. It's just not entertaining and Joker is what makes the movie.

Still the best super hero movie. Better than the entirety of the garbage known as the MCU and DCEU.

Wonder if we will ever get a great super hero movie again. You think the hit rate would be better given the number of attempts in this genre.

"You either die as hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain"

One of the best quote ever. Amazing movie too.

saw it opening night in IMAX with very few expectations, and Jesus Christ what a movie. i went through the "well ACTUALLY it's not that good" phase a few years later but rewatched it in 2015 or so and i take it all back, it's THAT good. way better than BB, way better than any Marvel movie.

TDK is basically a commentary track pretending to be a movie.

It's pretty good the first time, but un-rewatchable.

Here in NYC, the Lincoln Square IMAX is the best place to see any IMAX movie with it's 8 story tall screen. I couldn't go opening night, so I ended up going opening Saturday night.

I remember getting to the theater 3 1/2 hours early to get in line for the movie thinking I'd be first in line to get a great seat (this was pre reserved seat days), and I was 20th. After an hour the line was out the door and down the staircase. What a movie experience that was.. probably only The Force Awakens and Infinity War have matched that level of excitement.

I remember it like yesterday. I went to see it in the theater and right around the pencil scene, lightning struck the theaters was in and we started smelling burning plastic so we all had to leave. I got to see it again another day but it just felt we weird watching the first part over again

One of the finest movies of the decade, and so far the only one from the superhero renaissance that will go down in film history.

Yep. He was a bad Batman. In fact a lot of the characters had shoe-horned, long-prose high-school-level philosophy speeches that sound so dissonant when compared to the rest of the film.

It's no wonder people were more harsh on Rises. The supporting column (Ledger as The Joker) wasn't there. Batman Begins is a more rounded film IMO.

Most people usually celebrate anniversaries on the day of general release, but eh

Saw this in theaters on the 4th of July and it still holds up as the finest comic movie and one of the best movies of the past decade.

The pacing (sans the whole Two-Face finale), the scenarios (so much of the movie is a proxy war between The Joker and Batman) and of course the look and sound of it.

I saw it three times in the cinema when it released. Heath ledger just blew everyone away. I do agree with some criticism saying it hasn't aged well though.

Still the best comic book flick and best performance in a comic book flick. Two Face really fucking sucks though.

So feel free to reminiscence about this movie or be that guy who says, "ACTUALLY this movie isn't very good because...". I will never forget the GASPS in the theatre during the pencil scene.

Ha, when that happened, there was such a weird sort of nervous laughter that went over the crowd.

I'll never forget opening night at midnight, Gordon says "...a dark knight", the movie smash cuts to black, the title screen pops up, and the audience just ROARS. That was the goddamn loudest audience reaction I've ever heard for a movie ending, people went nuts.

Agreed 100%. Superhero movies aren't going away, but Nolan's TDK completely changed how comic book movies are viewed. Decades from now people will still talk about it.

I'll never forget the audible gasps for the pencil scene and the collective vacuum sound in our theatre when the truck flipped. I've never heard so many people simultaneously stop breathing. It was surreal.

It's not just some superhero shit. The acting, action, cinematography, soundtrack is all a masterwork. I don't even remember how many times I watched BluRay. But I watched 14 times in the theater, and they were all unforgettable. And of course, Heath Ledger is the man who brought this film to this ultra quality level. Rest in Peace.
