Disliked the demo, notably the audible dialogue, but this thread is making me consider giving it a try sooner than later.

OP could have had a thread of people singing the praises of the OST they enjoy, but instead had to invite comparisons and now has a thread of people posting songs from other games.

Octopath's OST is fine, but it's not blowing my mind. It's very high quality and I love the instrumentation, the compositions can be a bit boring sometimes. I personally think Bravely Default had a better soundtrack if anything is comparable at all.

That's not Celeste

^that buildup to 3:00. Pure adventure

Soundtrack of the generation. Shit still gives me goosebumps and I didn't even really like the game

Musical taste is subjective, but Octopath's OST isn't sounding so hot next to these other selections.

The Celeste stuff is really solid.

It's easy to spot out the people who have trash tier taste in music when they crap on Witcher 3's OST.

For all the praise Celeste's OST got, I've never really felt anything special from it.
It sounds like generic arcade music and very bland.
In terms of indie metroidvania, Ori has much much better OST.

Hm, isn't that hard in my opinion, because I didn't find the Witcher 3 OST THAT good apart from two or three tracks.

I'll listen into Octopath's OST when the Wi-fi's working again (although I won't be able to play this awesome looking game due to lack of a Switch :( )

Just entered the Frostlands and just sat my controller down to listen to the music for a minute. I can't wait to hear more as I go on!

No lies detected OP, though you should've said since FFXV.

I'm frankly blown away by the soundtrack. It's been so long since I connected like this to the music of a composer I'm not familiar with.

What I've heard of the Octopath OST is pretty good, but I've heard better soundtracks so far this generation (NieR: Automata, Bloodborne, Persona 5, Undertale, Xenoblade Chronicles 2).

I recommend listening to Fire Emblem Echoes as well. It flew under the radar last year (3DS game). But I felt it was at the level of Xenoblade 2 as well. Those two were the best soundtracks from Nintendo last year.

The OST is varied and definitely pulls from a lot of places. Quite a few tracks had me thinking of Lunar: SSS and of course FF and SaGa. Not the greatest RPG soundtrack of all time (that still goes to Chrono Cross) but easily and instantly put into the top 10.

I think Vampyr has the best soundtrack of 2018 that I've played. I did like the music in the OP though.

It's Western.

You know the drill.

Or it's just an opinion lol, all I'm mostly seeing is people saying it wasn't the best OST that year, much less the best one these last three years until Octopath came along, which is absolutely fair to say since this is all wildly subjective at the end of the day.

As for myself, the little of Witcher 3's OST I actually remember I do indeed like, but that's about it.

Won't argue against Octopath's because it's indeed superb, but I'm pretty sure there's been plenty notable soundtracks between those two lol, some better than both even, IMO.

But yeah I'm in love with this game.

I don't agree with the OP's assertion that TW3 had the last stellar OST waay back in 2015, due to the many obvious responses in this thread, but I would also say Ard Skellige is probably a Top 3 track for the generation.

Honestly the fighting in this thread had only reminded me that music across the board is incredible this gen, including Octopath.

Yep its pretty damn good. Dunno if its the "best" since the witcher 3 when cuphead and nier came out last year, but its definitely up there.

some good mentions in this thread too like Celeste from earlier this year.

OP, you forgot to post the two best songs towards what I assume is very late end game. Don't open if you don't want to hear late end game area music and final boss theme. If the final boss music is what I think it is based on the soundtrack, and seeing what late game bosses are like on the GameXplain stream yesterday. Oh boy...this final boss is going to be quite something.

The technical quality seems to be up there, but it all sounds a bit generic. That combined with the dialogue put me to sleep in the demos.

Nah Nier: Automata is not better than this OST.

I fell in love with the OST of the demo, so I can't wait to hear more of it!

The Octopath OST has been on heavy rotation since yesterday. It's beautiful, man.

Falk, was the composer on your radar? Feels like this is his first big break and I'm sure he's gonna get more work after this.

This playlist is complete, I assume:

We had some incredible OSTs this generation, some examples:
Nier Automata
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Pyre
The Witcher 3
Splatoon 2
Mario Odyssey
Far Cry 5
But yeah, Octopath's music is awesome as well.

edit: Reading this thread some more, how could i forget to mention Final Fantasy 15's amazing soundtrack. Same with DOOM (2016).

Pretty much my thoughts as well, having played the first demo. In addition, there's little standing out to me in the samples posted here as well. It's not horrible music, but fairly bland going over the tracks.

Nah, Witcher's ost is still the best. Nier came pretty close though.
