So for those that don't know what Roblox is, its a free to play game that is aimed at younger kids but has tools that allows users to basically make thier own game.

Anyways I have a tendancy to monitor Xboxs most played games and everytime I check I see it in the top 5, often now ahead of CoD and PuBG. Has anyone else noticed this ? I feel like due to the audience it doesn't get any traction on this site.

I intend on giving it a try for the achievements, but also look forward to see what kind of popular game modes I can find (Like Paladins).

Seems like a huge niche it is bringing to xbox, it is also crossplay with users on PC where the majority play.

It's something I keep meaning to check out sometime. Maybe it'll scratch the Kodu/Warcraft 3 custom games itch that Project Spark didn't.

It's huge, but it's for a younger audience. It's like Club Penguin -- not in the way it plays, but just in how it is popular but not discussed outside of its core audience of young players.

We know. But its not a game offcourse this forum is intrested in
I mean its one of the biggest Xbox console exclusives that is forgotten. Or is forgotten when lists are made.

My kid used to play it a lot when he was a younger. I'd say it's 9-12 year old territory.

It's really popular for the pre-teen crowd, often times my kid will start playing Fortnite, Slime Rancher, PvZ, or Minecraft, but somehow he always ends up on Roblox before the night is over.

My son loves this, he has such a good time with his friends on this
Seems to be a good variety of games on there to play, even I've played with my son and can kinda see the appeal , word of caution as with any game that kids play make sure you monitor who try's to chat/friend them on Roblox, also its very micro transaction heavy but seeing as its FTP i can see why

We recently had a thread about Roblox.

It's F2P Minecraft essentially.

Iirc someone who used to create content for it got out because the monetisation scheme wasn't great and it's definitely a product geared towards kids.

Used to play ROBLOX in 2008, Met some great friends there. But its a shame that the game added a lot of anti-consumer practices as soon as it got popular. Creators used to be able to make real money from people simply visiting their places, but now the only may to make money is to add game passes (literal microtransactions under a different name) to your game.

Also doesn't help that a big creator on the site is a pedophile and the admins completely ignored it.

My kids are 7 and 9, and play it a lot on PCs...but they are beginning to move to Fortnite (the little buggers have dominated me in playground - they use gaming mice..I used a controller, thats my excuse at least. :) )

Roblox has fun modes that aren't available elsewhere, like hide and seek.
It's more of multiplayer minigames, so it's great in short bursts.

Plus, obligatory:

But yeah, avoid microtransactions.

My son still loves playing it on PC. We have dozens of great games but he's hooked on this stupid messy game. I can see how kids enjoy it though.

Literally the only thing I've heard about Roblox in years was from the past week when my country bumpkin of a coworker mentioned her kid playing it.

Went on about how her son enjoyed the big rainbow slide so much he went "look mom, I'm sliding into heaven!!" Which she finds amusing "Because the bible says it's a big no-no". So I think I hate Roblox.

Locking online multiplayer behind the Xbox Live Gold paywall seems particularly short sighted for a game aimed at children.

https://blog.roblox.com/2016/01/roblox-now-available-on-xbox-one/
I'm hoping eventually MS drops paid multiplayer entirely. But the fact that this game continues to be one of the most popular games on Xbox means the opposite. Microsoft benefits from those families/kids that never even put a dime into the game. My daughter plays this a lot, I've bought her Roblux. She seems to be entertained by it's copyright infringement. She was playing as 3D Sonic last time she played with Sponge Bob and Pokemon characters in the world.

It was meant to be coming to PlayStation 4 in 2017. The developer uploaded job postings for the PS4 and PSVR version in 2016. They even confirmed the PS4 port on a live stream. "Soon," they said.

But according to the Roblox blogosphere, Microsoft extended their timed exclusive deal to keep it away from children playing on PS4.

Edit: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/75671907 (see 17:45)

"PS4, soon, it's in production, that has been confirmed, we are working on it for PS4."

My gosh, I used to play this game hard back in the day, boy. I might come back to it.

Wow, even Microsoft are thinking of the children.

A friend of mine was just telling me yesterday that a 7 year old girls avatar was gang raped in roblox. I still dont know how that would be even possible.

It's the shittiest most popular game I've ever seen. It's a truly special kind of shit, that only kids, and those who make a shit load of money playing it online for kids to watch, can stomach.

I've played (and watched) dozens of hours of Roblox with my 7 year old nephew and if I didn't love him with all my heart, I would have probably told him plainly what I thought of god damn Roblox. The idea of Roblox is neat, literally everything else about Roblox needs to be fired into the sun.

My son and his pals used to play it, but they've moved on to fortnite thankfully. It was an awful looking game and I never understood what the draw was. I'm obviously not the target demographic though.

Isn't this every online game on Xbox? Why would they make an exception for this game?

there was a thread here also that highlighted that PSN+ is not required for online play in Demos/Betas and also Free to Play games, which for parents it would be a blessing to never deal with getting a gold subscription and then fighting with banks or MS support for a refund on 1000+ usd money spend from their child for Robux or V Bucks or any other currency in free to play games

I urge anyone to try Robot 64 on Roblox, I played it for a couple hours (the only reason I installed the game) and it was surprisingly fleshed out. There's so much shit on there though, but I can kinda understand the appeal.
