I realize this thread is quite premature considering Octopath Traveler's launch date of... today... but regardless, ever since I saw the first trailer for OT I've been thinking about how wonderful it would be to see a Final Fantasy Tactics/Tactics Ogre style game in the Octopath Traveler engine and universe. The stage seems set to me - engine is already in place, Switch is very successful, OT universe is rich with characters, and series' like Fire Emblem have shown the viability of SRPG's in modern times. I'm not sure if Square Enix has the talent in place to pull off a game like this but I sure would love to see them try. The Switch seems like the ideal SRPG platform to me and I'm hoping a large publisher other than Nintendo takes a stab at the genre.

Anyone else get excited daydreaming about this possibility?

I'm ready for Octopath Tactics with Matsuno as the lead writer and Alexander O. Smith as the translator.

I would take any new SRPG series from SE to be honest. Pretty ridiculous how they didnt release anything in the genre on 3DS or Vita.

I will be happy to get a game like that, in fact I want it now! We are getting only few Japanese SRPG's recently, personally I prefer the SRPG in the old school Japanese style, that's why Fire Emblem is my favourite SRPG series.

Then it turns out to be eight different parties with eight different stories without a central plot tying everything throughout the game, and people lose their minds.

Yup, sounds exactly what I want.

Any official followup to FFT or FFTA would be greatly welcome.

Let's hope that Octopath proves to Square that there is solid demand for quality retro.

I would be fine with a Final Fantasy Tactics port to the switch, since I never owned a PSP or Vita I never got to play it.

Honestly I would be way more into that than the game we got (which I haven't played yet).

The Map along with the art absolutely gave me FF Tactics vibes.

Everybody wants some old game in the Octopath engine.

Final Fantasy 6 remake, Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, and more.

Unfortunately, the devs aren't interested in doing remakes. Hopefully some other team will pick up the slack, though. If enough people ask, someone has to listen, right?

Sure, and it should have Matsuno. Ito should take care of the battle system. The setting has to be Ivalice too. We'll also call it Final Fantasy Tactics 2 whole we're at it

I was all in an crazy excited about it until I learned that it's just 8 stories that have little to do with each other, and that all the work you do in order to get the characters together doesn't matter outside of battle. I might grab this on sale at some point, but I cancelled my preorder yesterday.

Actually tried to cancel my preorder from bestbuy (nothing against the game, just that I have other things to play at the moment, and there weren't any preorder discounts anyways), but was it had already shipped. So I guess I'm ready!
