Yet there are people who swear they are at war lol. Microsoft is unbothered by Sony.

Not really. Sony is the ideal company for any of the big 4 or 5 tech giants to acquire if they want to diversify their entertainment portfolio. Assuming they are able to overcome any antitrust hurdles.

Unbelievable, are they absorbing people's negativity and turning it into money or something? Maybe if we start saying nice things about EA their stock will start dropping?

I'm just joking, while I wouldn't say ''congrats'' I'm somewhat happy to see this news, it means we will get more Battlefield, BioWare game and maybe even Mirror's Edge and Dead Space in the future.

I have lost a lot of faith in people's ability to research and think for themselves.
People can be dumb. Microsoft's real competitors are companies like Apple and Google.

That said, I bet if you took a valuation of just the Xbox division it would be worth less than Playstation or Nintendo. The difference is that Playstation is probably half or more of Sony's $66 billion market cap and Nintendo is just a gaming company. Xbox is such a small portion of Microsoft as a company, which means it's of lesser importance to the company's strategy and less likely to stick around. But Microsoft hasn't shown any signs of leaving the gaming space, and they really dont need to.

Basically, Microsoft doesnt need Xbox the way Sony needs Playstation. But they also are a way stronger, more stable company overall than Sony is. I think Sony could survive solely as a gaming company though, much like Nintendo does.

What's the biggest moneymaker for Activision? They've got a fairly significant chunk over EA. COD? Blizzard's output?

It's pretty even between the divisions.

Mind, this year was unusually good for the Activision Branch because they had a mainline Destiny release while Blizzard had nothing.

You want the third and fourth rows for the full 2017 results.

King
COD/Destiny
WoW/Heartstone/OW

Blizzard has over 5.5k employees, Activision over 4k and King 2k. Acti-Blizzard has more manpower than EA. However, if it was all about manpower, Ubisoft would take the number one spot.

Konami : The Pachinko Menace.

Bigger than I expected.

The stock of Konami is mostly because of their console/mobile division, even if their other division also impact it. Pachinko isn't really a factor, even more because it's not big in their financials like mobile/console with a significant difference in earnings between it and the main division. Pachinko is actually the last division, which is why the meme about it is so stupid when it earns so few compared to the console/mobile and the other two

I don't think I've ever played or bought an EA game, not Mass Effect or nothing.

EDIT: correction Dead Space 2.

Thanks. Also if Xbox wasnt part of Microsoft and was just it's own company it would still be big and still be a relatively healthy company. No one is bowing out of the console market any time soon. It took a series of big failures to kill Sega's hardware business, and they were never as successful as Xbox is now. Plus they never truly died either, they are still one of the biggest Japanese gaming companies.

I enjoy EA games more than 99% of ResetEra/the Internet (Anthem is my most anticipated game of 2019 if TLOU2/GOT aren't out) so...good for them

99% of the public enjoys EA games more than resetera lol - which is why we're getting this news and why EA and Activision are bigger than any of the publishers/devs endlessly hyped on about here.

That's not how any of this works. EA for good or bad makes products that people want. In the grand scheme of things the market cap is simply the demand for EA's stock. It doesn't mean EA has that money and it doesn't directly impact EA only the investors.

Get better jokes. This is the type of stupid shit someone would easily say unironically, especially on ERA. So you cannot claim it is a joke. If you want to tell jokes it has to be outrageous enough for people to pick up on the joke or you can just do the easy /s. Either tell better jokes or just do the cheap /s.

People were going ape shit over Nintendo's stocks dropping but according to this their still top 3 with a huuuuuge gap between them and the next company. Could you imagine how much they would be worth if they added bullshit micro transaction and stuff into all their games?

Man Capcom lower than Sega and almost at Koei levels.

Capcom is really being killed by a lack of any successful service games and having virtually no mobile business.

They're going all out on fixing the latter in the near future, but they're still on the "We have to make competent games in the first place." phase of the former before they can start converting those back into service platforms.

I do think their future looks a lot brighter than their present and immediate past, but I totally get investor pessimism at the moment, since there was a big missed opportunity in making Monster Hunter a high profit ongoing service.

If anything Capcom is way higher than they have ever been , they usually float around the 1Bn range. Its Sega that is doing pretty bad , they used to be bigger than Bamco,Konami and SE. Around the 5Bn mark. But SE and Bamco moved up a lot in recent years , with succesful service games.

Dude you are trying too hard. Save the jokes for Dane Cook. He might be unfunny but his shows are only mediocre.

To everyone else sorry for the derail.

It's sad when a poster can't even post a simple joke in an Era thread without some rapacious idiot jumping down their throat and trying to redefine what qualifies as a joke and what doesn't based on some ludicrous arbitrary metric.

You, good sir, need to learn to lighten up. Your hostility and passive-aggression is completely unwarranted.

Okay so

From an economics perspective, EA is just an extremely annoying company that provides little value.

They buy exclusive licenses from monopolies or near monopolies and make a product with no competitors.

So if you like soccer or American football, you have no options but EA.

Meanwhile, EA makes sure to make the prices of these games as high as possible with the pay to win Ultimate Team stuff.

EA has become a successful business, but they're probably the most actively anti-free market game publisher out there and they're just really annoying and bad as a whole.

Despite all the fuckery they seem to do on a regular basis, they have made some great games in the past. For me personally, Mass Effect, Dead Space, Dragon Age and maybe even Anthem.
