Just tried this out super quick and it feels great! Really wish they had a one-button reset option like in Splatoon 2, but I'll take what I can get. Definitely gonna put this through its paces tonight and see if I'm any better.

Hey, guess what. IGN lied.

This isn't the case, they put up an article with no source. Users can't access Epic accounts that have been associated with PSN.

I got hyped while sitting at work because I trusted IGN to actually....try to login? I guess? Fuck it.

Same issue, sorry for the hype, folks.

Can confirm that IGN was misinformed. I just tried to link my PS4 up and it didn't work.

Can anyone confirm that if you purchase something from switch version, cosmetics and battle pass applies when you play PC as well? Have currency in the eshop and would rather use that than my CC.

Did I already post a message mentioning that this game runs like trash on the switch even with an ethernet connection?

Horrible, compared to PC and PS4 and the motion controls are jittery as hell. They did update the game a lot though, seems to look better now

Yeah, gyro controls are rough. Better than using the Joycons, but it could really use some work

I just played for 45 minutes using my phones hotspot and had zero issues. I don't have any issues at home with wifi either.

I didn't have any issues the one time I played on wifi

Really, wow. I wish I could upload game footage from my t.v. It's wild. It doesn't look bad on my 4k tv anymore, though

Has anyone have issue with the sound in-game? I don't get any sound in the game except for the main menu.

Report it. Maybe do a system reboot (hope it works) and if you haven't already make sure the sfx sliders are not on zero in the sound options. You probably already did but better safe than sorry. Hope everything works out!

System reboot? You powering down the system? Did that.

Is Fortnite the best example of why the Switch is such a great gaming platform?
  • Portable
  • Free to Play w/ optional microtransactions
  • 1:1 Gameplay with PC/Consoles (no gameplay cutbacks because it's on a portable console)
  • Online multiplayer w/ voice chat
  • Crossplay with Xbox, PC and mobile
  • Good visuals (thanks to art style and engine)
  • Optional gyro aiming controls
  • Constantly being updated (including fixing bugs)
Am I missing anything?

Yep do a full restart of the system. If that or the volume controls didn't work report and maybe tweet to epic so they know the issue. Then the waiting game begins.

Already power it down completely and even deleted and reinstalled the game. Guess my only choice is to contract Epic.

Hmm us it the 30Fps that makes the gyro so jerky. Sorry I play Splatoon 2 and I eventually got used to the gyro and never went back but in Fortnite I just can't.

Are they that bad in Doom and Wolfenstein?

I've tried getting into gyro controls for a while now, especially with Splatoon 2, but have never had success. I can't quite tell what I'm "supposed" to be doing or if I'm over-thinking things, so I've never crossed the hump where it just feels natural.

Maybe someone here can help me understand better -
  • When using gyro controls, how much are you still expected to use the left analog stick?
  • How much do you generally turn using the left analog stick vs. just gyro?
  • How much do you look up and down using the left analog stick vs. just gyro?

Since people love gyro controls once they get used to it, I'm realllllly looking forward to getting over the learning curve.

The 1500 skin that's active at the moment (like a silver superhero one?) looks rubbish on Switch. The cape doesn't have any cloth physics so it just moves around like rigid cardboard!

Personally, gyro is best used as pretty much a full substitute for aiming. The only thing the aiming thumb stick is used for is larger panning movements. I even use gyro aiming for large sweeping movements when I'm in a pinch.

I think you mean the right analog stick. But in my experience with Splatoon 2, you still use the right stick to move the camera/look, it's just the medium-smaller movements to get aiming precise on a target is where I use gyro.

Stick is for big movements, gyro is for precision. That's it really.

60fps is pretty huge. Just feels soooo good.

This is pretty awesome, I'm usually fine with just the sticks in console shooters but I just can't get used to the joycon sticks when it comes to aiming in Fortnite. They just don't feel right while aiming and I pretty much get obliterated when trying to shoot anyone. I probably average about 1 minute per match with about 1 kill per 5 matches, and most of those kills are against people without any weapons.
Ever try the pro controller?

Using the pro controller and it doesn't feel smooth. It seems to have a hard time with very subtle movements. It also feels jittery. Not impressed.

For something like Fortnite or Splatoon, I use it as a supplement for the right analog stick. Everything I do the the left stick remains the same. I generally use the right stick to turn the camera left or right if it requires more than a subtle movement, but for everything else (slight horizontal aiming movements to all of the vertical stuff) I use gyro.

Just create a new account for the switch, tied to a different email adress. Season 5 is the perfect time to start brand new with Fortnite.
I'm not gonna clutter up my work email with Fortnite shit and I don't want to make a fucking sock account to work around some shit that should just work. Sony needs to stop being dumb.

Technically, sure, but using an IR pointing/bounding box system over gyro introduces a host of design issues which I explained above in my edit.
I've never had bounding box/dead zone issues with the IR pointer feature of the Wiimote. The only times it went crazy was if there was sunlight in the room. Also for Wii u shooters, the cursor was a bit jittery occasionally. But turn speeds felt fast and fluid, and aiming hipfire and ads on it felt great.

I haven't extensively played with shooters that really took advantage of the gyro like Splatoon and doom, but I'll see how they play. I'll play Fortnite this weekend and might get Doom down the road and give my opinion.

It's really down to comfort, but you generally want to be using the stick to turn and acquire targets and the gyro to do the actual aiming. I'd start with a high stick sensitivity and a low gyro sensitivity and adjust from there.

Tried the gyro controls just now, they definitely don't feel as smooth as Splat 2's gyro controls but I'm at least feeling much more confident in my aiming now.

Is anyone else seeing much more frequent and significant frame drops this update? I feel like it only rarely dropped before like once in a blue moon but now it feels like every match is dropping frames. Maybe its all the new assets with the new areas and stuff idk

This changes the game for Switch. Set motion sensitivity to zero, set motion targeting sensitivity to 4.5, and with auto run engaged I feel like an extraordinary machine.

Seeing a very noticeable improvement in my lethality now.

Oof, it's pretty difficult to aim with the motion control since it's abit jittery and not smooth as I hoped it would be like Splatoon.
